Welcome to Hot Springs.
It's championship Saturday for volleyball in the state of Arkansas.
Welcome to South Bank Ozk arena alongside my tag team partner, GB Brazil.
I'm Bobby Swofford and stop me if you've heard this before.
Fayetteville and Conway, they're playing for a championship once again.
Regulars here at the state title game.
Fayetteville and Conway, they know each other well.
Any time you make it this far, though, you've got to be really good.
And they knocked off.
A lot of people think we're the favorites to be here at both of the number two seeds.
But how about we flash back to last year because somebody's got to win it last year.
Someone's going to win this year.
Has a chance to be the same team.
The Conway Lady Wampus Cats, the defending state champion, and they got the job done against Bentonville, a team they beat in the semifinals as well.
Yeah.
So they've been around the block a little bit.
That'll help in games like this.
But my goodness, all kinds of offensive prowess.
That's what Conway has going their way.
Really good setter though that returns and loaded commentary.
She's really sets the tone for the offense.
Her distribution is really good.
She's got a lot of options and weapons, but boy, flooding the court.
A big moment for Conway.
That was last year.
Who's going to hold the trophy this year?
Let's take a look at these two teams got here, starting with the visiting team Cathy the Fayetteville Lady Bulldogs here on the bottom half of the bracket.
They got a first round bye as our number two seed ran into some trouble in the quarterfinals against the little Rock central.
Drop sets three and four before taking game five.
And then this was maybe the upset.
Fayetteville sweeps the number one seed from the central Cabot three.
Nothing on Cavett's home floor to get to the championship game.
And if you're talking about Fayetteville, you got to talk about Piper, baby.
My goodness.
No kidding.
High level D1 commit as well.
She's a player that really controls the pace of this team.
Conway is going to have their hands full with a player like Bailey, and just really all the weapons that she has in her back tape.
Piper Bailey committed to play at Mizzou at the next level.
For Fayetteville to be successful today.
JB what they need to do well well you know, biggest thing is going to be the errors at the net.
And I mean blocking and attacking errors, right?
Limit those because you got a really good blocking.
You're attacking is going to have to be on point also and just play aggressive.
I think that's going to certainly play well.
You've played Conway plenty of times in this type of environment, play aggressive and limit those errors.
So Fayetteville is the two seed from the West.
They're taking on the two seed from the central.
Let's take a look at how come we got to the championship game for a second straight season.
They were on the top half of the bracket.
They like Fayetteville received the first round bye.
And then they were able to get by Fort Smith South Side in that quarterfinal matchup.
South side always so tough A31 victory for the Lady Cats are.
Then they get to the semifinals.
And maybe another bit of an upset as they take down the number one seed from the West.
Conway beats Bentonville 3 to 1 to set up this championship match.
And Robin Jones, we called her name a bunch last year in this championship game and likely to do the same again today, and no doubt another D-1 level commit playing at Evansville for next level.
But she wants one more win on her belt.
Right?
51 service aces, 483 kills.
She's now the career kills leader at Conway.
She knows how to get the job done for Conway to win today.
What they could do well, coach talked about this.
Coach Crow knows how good Fayetteville is on the block.
They're going to have to serve really, really tough and serve receive.
That's going to be one of the biggest things.
And it's kind of the elephant in the room.
Find ways to limit Piper.
Just don't let her beat you.
Conway Fayetteville six eight, state championship.

Conway and Fayetteville playing for a championship like old times.
These two met the finals just two years ago.
Fayetteville won that one and five.
Conway took down Bentonville a year ago and we are underway in set number one.
Quickly to the attack and quickly put down Fayetteville on the board thanks to Lauren Taylor.
It's a really good set up.
The pins are going to be big time for Fayetteville.
Really good set up to begin.
You like a clean start if you're Fayetteville and they do just that.
Fayetteville has won the championship eight times in school history.
Conway is looking for their fourth state championships.
Again, no strangers to success at the highest level for these two.
Here in Jones, the attack that one snuffed out though that of course the feeling out process.
Not much feeling out for Taylor.
Back to back hills to start things for the Purple Dogs.
That's a really hot start from Lauren Taylor.
They just keep feeding her and she keeps getting the job done.
That one through the double.
So Fayetteville scores the first two points of the match again the number two seed Fayetteville 25.
And five on the year.
Nice job to keep that point alive from Jovi Harrell.
The block comes up big for Conway.
And the defense puts the cats on the board.
Sellers and Cornell all over it.
It all capped off though with an excellent effort to keep the play alive.
And Fayetteville might have gone back to the oil too many times.
Taylor the third time tonight?
Yep.
That's what good teams are going to do.
They're going to adjust.
But Conway now trailing two one Braylen Maritz on the serve slide technique there for Fayetteville works out perfectly.
The Lady Bulldogs take A31 lead thanks to that kill from Kinsey Hogue.
So tough to guard that slide.
You got to really time it perfectly.
You don't have a very good angle to and I got a good block on it.
Just couldn't keep it in play.
Quick set right in the middle.
And that's going to work.
Not great contact from Conway but still kill nonetheless.
Is Sylvia King the future UK softball player puts them on the board.
That's the beautiful thing about that middle attack.
If you're already up in the air and that sets 1 or 2ft above, it's so tough.
If you don't have a block there, forget it.
That's a kill every time.
If you're tuning in and wondering where this match has been all day, well, you're not alone.
The first two championship matches of the day went to five sets, and that's an ace for Conway.
So we are getting started an hour in, about five minutes after we were supposed to.
But nonetheless, I don't think these two teams care.
I don't think their fan bases care.
There's ready to win a trophy.
It just means we've had really good volleyball tonight.
I don't know, we were talking between matches that we've had a couple of years where all five championships were sweeps.
Yeah, not going to be the case today.
That attack goes long.
And Back-To-Back points for the Wampus Cats.
And they've got A43 lead.
This is a big sequence for the Wampus Cats because Frazier a really good server on the line.
Third straight serve coming up after one ace to begin.
Trying to go to Robin Jones a big swing.
And the University of Evansville commit puts it down 483 kills coming into this one has a very realistic chance to getting to 500 on the season.
Boy, future codebases on that swing 222 digs to go along with those kills for Jones, an all around player for the Cats at Fayetteville, answers right back and a big swing right in the middle.
I think you're going to see a lot of that right back and forth.
It's going to be the block game.
Who could get up there and kind of slow things down, stay in system because right now the heavy hitters are hitting.
Saturday matinee between two of the best programs in the state.
That attack goes long.
Boy that was a really quick set up to the middle.
She got a lot of topspin on.
I didn't think she was going to have enough and it became so close there on the back right pocket.
Just couldn't keep it in play.
Five five Fayetteville in Conway, Pulaski Academy, Marian have already won championships today.
All these two teams hoping to add their name to that list.
And Wren Jones, if she's got a hand in it, feels like the way that she can play.
I mean, they're getting up so tall, gave her so many options.
About the time she swung, she'd been in the air, it seemed like, for three seconds and then slammed it home.
Really talented.
Is number three in white for Conway.
Oh.
Blocked there for Fayetteville.
Gets it back across Conway is going to reset the offense.
Flailing arms.
That one could not be controlled from Wrigley Thomas and Conway's putting together a little run.
That's the center.
Two kind of talk going down line.
There's an opening.
Back row is just crashing in a little bit.
So by the time they got to it too far back.
Service error though, gives it right back to Carr to Fayetteville.
Excuse me seven six.
Both of these coaches have seen pretty much every scenario possible, starting with Fayetteville and Jessica feeling she's been the coach for the Purple Dogs.
It seems like since the dawn of time.
Not because she's old, she's only 29 years old, but she has had so much success since the program.
Not only rise, but also the popularity of volleyball across the state and especially in Northwest Arkansas, go to new heights as well.
She started the program at Prairie Grove, and then this one opened up and she gladly took it.
She's done great things.
On the flip side, as Conway adds another talent to their score, Laura Crow mean, what else can you say about her?
I mean, she's taken Conway from a program that was hoping to compete to a program that has a target on their back.
Yeah, every time you play Conway, if you pick up one, you know, it's a really, really good win.
Conway is going to be in the conversation for a title just about every year.
29 and five are the lady cats.
We're hoping to get the win.
Number 30, because that comes with the trophy and a ring.
On attack couldn't be handle from Conway, so Fayetteville gets right back into it as kind of as you'd expect.
JB kind of got through that feeling out process.
These two teams starting to settle in and were pretty evenly matched.
And what you see, what you seen a lot of other matchups.
This one these teams have been here a ton.
The nerves don't seem to come into play as much.
A lot of smooth production, not very many attack service errors.
It's the offense is putting up points and executing a quick attack.
They're the easy sets and the easy put down for Conway Haven Sellars with the kill.
The 511 senior a big time play for this senior.
Again those high percentage middle attacks have such a high percentage of success.
Usually they're hitting about 300 because of that.
But they don't get as many attacks.
And so when they get them you got to execute.
And they did a little miscommunication on the back row.
That's an ace for Conway London coming top gives Conway a three point lead.
What a luxury to have a player like Cobb attack great service in kill a moment ago.
But her distribution as a setter is bar on two.
Nice job there.
Conway's is fine and new weapons to get it going.
Anna Smith with the kill in Fayetteville, wants to step aside and talk about it.
So we'll take a timeout with them.
Conway out on top of Fayetteville 11 seven.

So Conway comes out with a flurry of those six legs and they've got an 11 seven lead.
Really good offensive distribution from Covid talk.
That's what led things.
Now she's at the service line trying to produce know me.
I've got to get at least one Wampus cat reference in there.
I like that.
Big swing.
But that one goes into the net.
The hitting air gets Fayetteville that magical point.
It's amazing.
I was talking with Alyssa about the last game.
If every sport and the coaches could figure out why, if you call a timeout in volleyball, it automatically leads to a point.
Every other sport would do it too.
Absolutely.
Because it seems to me almost every time.
Momentum is such a big key here in volleyball.
And you think that timeout that tacos long.
So back to back points out of the timeout for the purple dogs.
You know it's so it's so crazy to talk because you're right.
Every time there's timeouts it shifts a lot and is hugely impacted by momentum.
But wondering why that is right is it the opposition had been riding that high starts to settle down.
Or maybe you're settling down your nerves a little bit and trying to play a little bit more clean.
That serve two strong though, as long.
So Conway pushes the lead back to three.
It's 12 nine.
That's jumping out to you in these early moments.
Well you know early I think there's very few miscues.
It's a really good production from both teams, good distribution from the centers.
That's going to be big time.
You might want to see the blocks get involved a little bit.
Try to figure out a way to close down the offense.
Left handed attack.
There is a big swing.
Can't be dug out from Conway.
Gives the kill to Molly Miller.
Any time you got a lefty on that right side, it almost works.
The outside hitter a little bit different.
Miller is actually technically a setter, but man, when she's got that open look right there, it really gives her a good view of the floor.
And she's tough to stop.
The setter with 171 kills on the season, that'll work.
Absolutely.
Speaking of working for Jones, that drops the hammer.
My goodness.
Get out of the way Ryan Jones when she fires, you better be ready.
Zero reaction time there.
And the big kill for the Conway outside hitter.
These two teams are bringing some lumber.
That one goes wide.
Fayetteville responds to the big Red Jones attack for one of their own.
That slide attack.
It's been there.
And that block one on one that went out of play that time.
It was an open lane and they finished.
Sometimes you might be surprised if a team's got a hitter like that.
Not so much when you're talking about the state's largest classification.
Another big hit right in the middle for the Conway offense right through the block early on.
Conway doing a good job of executing there against the block.
Bailey was on it.
And they've not allowed baby to get involved a ton because I'm telling you Fayetteville gets her going offensively.
That really opens up.
Everybody else also.
So 1411 Conway still has the lead.
They always important first set big swing there right down the line.
Nicely performed.
Piper baby the future Mizzou Tigers right on cue two.
There's a hole down that line.
And she went down line to finish baby.
Doesn't matter how many got on her.
If she's got an opening she'll exploit it.
Set off the mark there from common talking.
Could not adjust for Conway.
And so back to back points for Fayetteville.
But Conway has been able to kind of keep the purple dogs at bay, if you will.
And that's what Conway still has the lead.
On to set the outside.
And nicely done to attack that back row.
Piper again with the kill.
That's two quickly for Piper, baby.
Name of the game for Fayetteville.
Here's what's going to happen if baby starts killing more.
The block kind of tried to guard her.
That's going to leave other options open.
Can really help Fayetteville exploit you see in life, killing more is not good.
Volleyball killing more is good.
That's right.
That pass again off the mark this time against Fayetteville.
So they had rally to tie the match up at 14.
But quickly give it back to Conway.
And it's tough is it.
Is that that bump set back baby.
So good but really not much she can do just a little bit out of sync.
Was Fayetteville.
Really feel like these two teams haven't gotten the big hitters going just yet?
Is that attack from babies into the net maybe furthers my point setting baby a little too far to the outside.
The passing not as crisp as you normally see it from Fayetteville.
Sure, it's kind of big in matches like this.
If Baby Baby is going to be successful, they're going to have to be crisp.
That's pretty crisp right there.
That is dropping the tomahawk for Piper Baby.
Beautifully set up to great set to baby.
And even with the open it's a great angle here.
Two she gets it over the top.
And then the top spin drops it in with all kinds of velocity.
So it's 1615 Fayetteville serving trailing by the smallest of margins.
Nice job diving bodies to keep that one alive for Fayetteville.
A tip though.
Again more defensive effort from Fayetteville doing a nice job.
And now they're going to get called for a lift a little.
The good job from Fayetteville's defense to keep that point alive.
But Conway still escapes with the point.
Those long rallies are crucial in Championship matches like this.
The teams that typically come out down the stretch, it pays dividends to win a title.
It Conway gives it right back a service here.
We haven't seen a ton of service errors through the first two matches.
A couple here in this six eight championship match, again, even though it's 1716.
So quick mark here.
The 133 total points.
I still think some nerves are in play between these two teams.
You know, it was something we didn't see as much early.
It was very clean, crisp.
It felt like.
But you're right there's it started to pile up just a little bit.
Here's this first set moves along.
Again the passing just off the mark.
They're battle the nets.
They're going to say that Fayetteville is a one of the points is that one did not get across the net calmly made contact to early the fourth.
And guess what?
34 points were all square.
That ball not making it over.
Conway's only hope was really.
Maybe Fayetteville touches it on the way as it's coming down and then that could touch it.
But because they touched it first four hits, can't do that.
Don't worry about that.
Just the break through the block for Conway and big swing right in the middle.
And Haven seller is credited with the kill.
Sellers is having a good game early.
Just her second kill though.
But high efficiency.
Just her third attack attempt.
So two for three.
Not bad.
Serve goes long.
So again these two teams is trading points 1818.
But this is where the good become great.
Finding ways to get those meaningful points late in sets.
That's right three serves here though not super helpful for com.
We're going to have to limit those.
So big swing does not catch the line though.
Too strong of an attack from Anna Smith.
And Fayetteville has a lead.
Really wanted maybe some high hands to get that tip.
Just didn't get it.
Give credit to Fayetteville.
They closed off and then they didn't touch that on the block.
So they get the out on the attack here.
See what Fayetteville can do with that 1918 lead.
Quick set in the middle is rejected Conway resets tips.
Not there.
Purple dogs have a chance to take advantage.
That one though into the net.
They say it did get over though.
Wow.
Nice dig on the back row from Wren Jones trying to punch out across really good rally.
Maybe the longest one of this opening set.
Again, the blocks there that catches the line.
Defense turning the offense for Fayetteville big time down the stretch to Conway had led for a large portion of this first set, but Fayetteville bringing the heat over the last 3 or 4 rallies.
Fayetteville 2018 over Conway.
We'll take a timeout with them as you're watching the Centennial Bank state volleyball Championships on Arkansas PBS sports.
Hey guess what?

Jessica Thielen, the head coach for Fayetteville.
You're looking at it right there.
Has built an outstanding program in Northwest Arkansas, one that most of the state is envious of.
JV.
No doubt about that.
Again we talked about her starting the program at Prairie Grove.
Very successful everywhere she's been in Fayetteville certainly is.
You could say Conway a powerhouse.
Fayetteville are 213 finals appearances, all under Jessica Thielen.
Nicely done.
The tip for Conway catches Fayetteville napping just a bit.
A big, big point for Conway out of the timeout two.
Something about it.
Great center dump that IQ from Covington.
That's huge.
You got to sprinkle it in right.
You can't do too much because you got to roll them to sleep.
That's what she did.
A quick set Conway is flailing arms.
Colvin keeps it alive.
And that attack goes wide.
So that one goes out.
Fayetteville, you start your countdown 2119.
This one, though still evenly matched here, but that always important first set within reach for Fayetteville in the Purple Dogs.
Important to see Piper Bailey actually a center so she was able to set that up perfectly.
She's a huge weapon for that Fayetteville offense.
And that led to that kill.
Molly Miller on serve for Fayetteville handled by Conway that quickly to Red Jones.
Her attacks deflected at the next but can't be handled.
So big swing there for Conway but courtesy of Red Jones.
Evansville's getting a good one I'll tell you that right now.
Tooling the block.
She just swings with so much purpose.
That power behind her swings are so impressive.
Tough time handling the serve there from Conway with Fayetteville does get it across Jones.
She's still got on the back row.
Nice job by Leila Black to the attack.
Not there.
Mishit from Lauren Taylor.
Can we are all tied at 20 14I feel like this has been the theme in all the matches.
These first sets of been nip and tuck and four points to go for either side.
Who wants it?
Oh that's tough.
You know the emotions are flowing through the adrenaline and sometimes you just put a little too much emphasis on it and that one goes long.
If Conway's able to unable to claim this set, they're going to look back at the service which is a big bugaboo.
Fayetteville 2221 and serving a quick set right in the middle blocks there for Fayetteville.
Brynn Jones now attack.
She tries a little finesse Fayetteville snuffed that as well.
The block really nice job defensively from Conway here.
See if they can turn that into offense.
Quick sets blocks against Fayetteville showing up back to Jones on the outside.
And that one can't be handled Corinne Jones puts one down and it's deuces across the board.
It's important to no.
Two attacks in the middle from Sylvia Kingston.
The block was there.
What did that do that allowed Robin Jones when she got on the third set block was late getting there.
And you can't give any opening to Red Jones.
She'll make you pay.
So Conway and Fayetteville all square at 22.
You don't watch a lot of volleyball.
It's first of 25 half to win by two.
And Conway's taking a big step forward with the ace boy.
As much as the errors have been problematic, an ace and a very big time Fayetteville takes their timeouts.
We'll stick it here with them as Conway takes a 2322 lead.
It really feels like J.V.
the last 4 or 5 points.
Momentum starting to switch from our right, switches Fayetteville over to the Wampus Cats on our left.
And I think a lot of it comes down to you mentioned it earlier, the timeouts, things shift, right.
It's been the theme.
If Fayetteville calls this timeout as the theme has been, they've been able to go on a run themselves.
Might be good time.
And Conway wants to make sure that does not happen.
Conway still does have a timeout according to the scoreboard here inside Bank okay arena, as could look at Coach Laura Crow and what she's done to Conway.
All they have done is won 11 in a row to get to this point.
They lost to Cabot both times in the regular season.
That was their two conference losses.
You know Fayetteville lost twice to Bentonville.
That was their two conference losses.
So they got on the phone was like, hey, how about you handle the other on your side of the bracket looking to make the finals?
And that's exactly what happens, no doubt about it.
Well, if you love watching Arkansas High School Championship Sports on Arkansas PBS and help us keep this incredible coverage coming your way.
To scan the QR code, it's quick and easy.
Do it now.
2322 Conway has the lead and they're also on serve.
Olivia Frazier five six senior sends it across.
Quick set in the middle.
Tries to tip in Fayetteville Conway scrambles to keep it alive Corbin talks, attacks dugout.
That's that's attack though into the nets.
Not enough on it.
Ivy Kirkconnell.
And all of a sudden it is set point for Conway.
Fayetteville had some momentum, but it's been a big push.
Front office gets a chance here to ice it with a big serve two that's a serve goes long.
We see that a lot.
They adrenaline's flowing.
They got a chance to put the set away.
The serve goes long.
So Fayetteville has new life.
That's five service errors.
But they just need one for Conway Fayetteville hoping to use that to their advantage.
Just want to try to tie things up and force it a one by two Kinsey Hogue on server Fayetteville.
Tough time handling from Conway.
They get it to Jones.
Big swing catches the net catches the floor and the Wampus Cats take the opening set.
Brynn Jones who else to seal the first set.
Emphasis from the outside hitter use the net to her advantage in Conway is up one set to on.

You know, you think of a small communities all over Arkansas.
It's a big deal that they can turn on the TV or DVR or whatever and know they're going to get a quality product.
And so I think it just expands the, the focus of what PBS is doing.

Simple question who holds the Arkansas state record for most assists in a career?
But I know this.
It'll be a center indeed.
How does a dynamite drop in?
He's Jamie Brazil, I'm Bobby Swofford.
Thanks for tuning in.
This is A6A volleyball state championship.
Conway takes the opening set 2523.
What did you see in that first opening stanza?
J.B., you know, Conway was able to weather the storm with the service errors, but that's part of their M.O.
serve tough, right?
They didn't get that ton of aces, but they did keep Fayetteville out of system.
I don't think Fayetteville got as many good attacks as they would like.
So maybe serve receive just a little better and pound the block.
So Conway is going to get on the board first.
Is that block could not keep it within the boundary.
And now the Wampus Cats go to serve with Braylen Maritz for the early lead at two.
How about an ace.
Never a bad time for an ace.
Coach will never say no to an aggressive serve that ends up in points, I can assure you.
So Conway scored the first two points in the second set.
We've already had two championships go to five sets today here in Hot Springs.
So this is obviously a huge, huge point for Fayetteville to try to even this match up.
Yeah that's right.
It's so tough to reverse sweep especially with the emotions so high.
Of course the reverse sweep no references.
You got to win the last three.
And Rin Jones says I don't care if you're talking forward, backwards, reverse.
Hit the ball to JB over there on the front row.
I got you see, my toss here is perfect to to our to our server there.
That was perfect execution from Jones going cross court as well.
That serve though is out.
So Fayetteville gets on the board here in set number two.
Just needed something to go your way if you're Fayetteville in a set.
Now calm things down.
Going on a little bit of run here.
Got a good serve and then set up that block.
If you don't get the blocks off, blocks will help you stay in system.
Get your offense set up.
That attack way too strong though.
Fayetteville watches it fly by and purple dogs have got back to back.
Shots are always tough attacks King with the ball kind of coming from our back.
Having to go and get the top spin.
Just couldn't get enough on and had to get it over the block to.
That was going to be tough.
Go back outside to Jones and you can tell she's taking her game to a whole new level in this championship.
She played well last year.
She's looking to repeat as maybe state tournament MVP with performance like that no doubt I mean so so electric.
You got to give credit to the center to come and talk.
She loves them to sleep.
She sets middle.
She steps right side.
She really mixing it up.
So you don't know when it's going to Jones and when it does boy it's tough to stop.
Ace there.
For Conway, the service errors were a bit of a problem in game one already.
Two aces here early in game two, and that's sometimes it.
High risk, high reward.
You have the errors, but as long as you get the aces to boot.
And goodness Olivia Frazier the seniors playing great at the service line.
Fayetteville trying to get back into it.
But the blocks there for Conway Sylvia King a little return to sender.
Energy is high.
Play a little bit of Fayetteville.
Game two Fayetteville's really really good on the block.
But my goodness Sylvia King, future pitcher for Central Arkansas on the softball diamond.
She's place plays the volleyball game pretty well also I'd say so at the Division one level she can hammer it down as well.
King one more time right in the middle and Fayetteville takes an early timeout.
Man Sylvia King back to back.
How bout it.
That one.
The big party ball hammer.
So many times you see momentum carry a lot in volleyball.
The Lady Wampus Cats win the opening set.
And it looks like they've got a lot of momentum here to start.
Set number two.
It's I think you win that first set.
It leads to that.
Sometimes a coach coach gotta love what she's seeing from her program right now.
You know she started the coaching career line coach for three years and then ended up as the head to head Wampus Cats.
Conway and successes followed.
But it wasn't until that 2018 season when she won their first title as a head coach.
That's what she really feels like was a big moment for her, and the program's really soared and it's sort of new heights.
You know?
Conway is really taking things to a whole new level.
We mentioned that early in the broadcast about, you know, they were wanting to be competitive and now they are the hunted because they've got the target on their back.
Third trip to the finals in as many years.
They lost to this Fayetteville team in five sets.
Two years ago.
And then they took down Bentonville last year here at Hot Springs.
So it's a program that is certainly you can't see on the rise because they're at the top.
Volleyball in Arkansas.
You know for Coach Crow.
We asked her what one of her biggest moments in coaching was.
And she told us best memory was when her son was born on October 7th.
Her nurse was actually a former player, Whitney Chandler.
You could tell she's a players coach.
And she said she told her husband, it's to, you know, we're good.
It's like, I'm in good hands.
Are you?
Go ahead and go home.
That's right.
Fayetteville finally gets the offense going there.
Big swing from Lauren Taylor and much needed for Fayetteville Taylor had a really good start to the match and set one.
Gets this one Pinballing off the block.
Taylor's going to be a big time asset for Fayetteville down the stretch, with Baty kind of being honed in on limited.
If Taylor can get an open that will also open up Bailey.
Speaking of open up things, Brian Jones had a lot of open space there and Easley puts it down the block, could not get over in time, and Jones is having herself a pretty outstanding day already here in the early going to set number two hitting five 6210 kills.
First double it is the next closest is four for either side.
Oh he's got a weapon like her in Jones.
You know she can't handle that attack from Fayetteville.
You've got to feed her as much as possible.
Of course Fayetteville is going to try to get the ball to Piper Baty, but she hasn't been haven't had the efficiency that Jones has had for Conway.
Yeah.
And a lot of it has been with the serve receive game Fayetteville's don't have really good touches.
The sand system to get the attacks that they want.
So they're going to have to server she just a little better.
Big swing there from the outside.
And Fayetteville the aforementioned Piper Baty drives it home.
That's what happens when Baty gets a really good in system swing.
Great setup.
It doesn't matter if you got two.
There is good enough to get it through and get a kill.
It's stating the obvious, but a team that is in system compared to one that is shot is just this night and day difference, no doubt about it.
You know, it's just like a quarterback with the player wide open as opposed to being a double coverage kill, you're likely going to throw a better pass and get a good completion.
It's the timing of it all.
The pass has to be on the money to the communication.
Just like that.
Fayetteville quickly puts it down King one more time in the middle.
Absolutely.
And again, because Kings have a good game kind of you know, one after the other.
King's doing really well.
Now they've got a block that Jones is open.
They don't really know who to block with so many options.
That angle is a prime example of what that quick set can do.
Doesn't allow the time for the block to get there.
Common talk goes down the line.
If in the back of your mind you know it still might go to Jones and they set it up so quickly.
The King, you're not there as a blocker.
It's the name of the game.
Keep them off balance.
That's right Conway out early here in set number two, ten five Fayetteville has got to find a way to stunt the momentum.
Get it going their way.
Up a bit of a rally here and scramble around for Conway.
They get it over Fayetteville back in the system.
The big swing.
No answer for that.
Piper baby quickly puts it down.
Really impressed by Piper Baby's all around game.
Everybody looks at the 340 kills she had coming into it.
But get this a thousand career kills, a thousand assists and a thousand digs in her career at Fayetteville.
That's impressive.
I don't know what you call that, a triple.
Quadruple.
I don't call that my goodness.
But that's just shows her dominance and how good she really is.
It sounds like the burger eight last night.
Oh, goodness.
She's, she's graduating early.
She's going to go to Mizzou.
That's a semester.
So she's graduating this.
Just a guess.
What?
About a month, maybe that's about it.
Is November.
Good Lord.
What happened?
Time is flying.
Quick set there for Connelly, and it works for them as well.
Hammered home haven sellers.
That was an absolute missile off the arm of sellers.
That middle attack has been there for Conway.
And that's a good way to exploit the block.
Right.
Set it up quickly to where they can't get there.
And that made them happen.
11 seven.
I got to touch there get it across Conway.
Now a chance to set the offense a big swing.
Dug out nicely on the by black in the back.
Five and bodies all over the place.
Conway again goes to the outside again coming towards us.
That one can't be handled Conway with the kill.
So much good effort from black time and time again.
But that last one just got the best of her.
It's tough when that ball is coming at such high, low low.
It's number ten Anna Smith, her third kill of the match.
She came into it with 256 and another service there.
So any time you feel like Conway maybe has a chance to make a run to really push this, put some distance between them and give one of a freebie back to Fayetteville.
And again, I think a lot of it's to the high risk reward thing, right?
You're trying to go for aces.
As long as you have a few of those, you're okay with the errors.
Got a total that fine line of being aggressive and reckless.
Yep, yep.
The big swing there does not catch the line from Smith.
Conway thought there might have been a touch at the net.
They don't get the benefit of that call.
So Fayetteville back within three.
Sometimes when you're crashing.
Now look at this Smith wanting those high hands to try to tool the block.
Just didn't get the touch.
Nice serve there.
That's going to be an ace Piper baby a lot of down spin on that top spin.
And Conway couldn't handle.
You know we talked about Ren Jones being a great get for Evansville.
Mesa's getting a good one also.
And Piper Bailey she's the complete package.
You add Piper Baby to the already long list of big time players coming out of that Fayetteville program.
Told us about Mae Powell, who just got play for team USA.
Yeah, played at Washington in college.
A very good NCAA Division one program in Washington.
Nice dump there for Conway.
Got the Fayetteville defense on their heels and gets his and Jovi Harrell on serve.
Now for Conway.
Quick set again in the middle of this.
No answer.
Fort sellers again she's played well in the early going four kills already for Haven in high efficiency two six total attacks four of them in the kill category.
That's pretty nice.
Pretty nice.
The block shows up for Conway again.
Nicely done defensively 80 Connell among the block there for the Wampus Cats Connell sellers you name it.
Got the double.
Really good tandem there at the net 1510 lady cats trying to take a two set to none lead.
But that's not going to help their cause as Fayetteville hammers right back with the left handed swing for Molly Miller.
Yes.
Sophomore doing a really nice job getting that big swing.
Tough to cover.
Made a play both number two seeds from their respective conferences meeting here in the Championship.
Brian Jones back on the floor and quickly back into the kill column.
Well that's set so good.
And the way she just kind of contorts her body to put herself in a position, even if the blocks there, you almost have to go straight down.
Otherwise it's a kill.
She just pounds it through.
Here's what's got to try to find an answer.
That's not it.
Is that attack as well on?
Yeah.
What high hands.
Well that lefty right on the right side.
And just couldn't find it.
Fayetteville takes her second timeout.
We'll take him with it.
Conway has got a 1711 lead here in Hot Springs.
This month in passport on the PBS app I mean I've made it so many times and still I'm still surprised at how good I am.
Hey, I'm Rick Steves.
Join me for Icelands Ring Road, where we'll be immersed in its vast and dramatic landscape.
This is why I have a love of travel.
Crazy, and why these are my places to love.
These and other shows from Arkansas PBS are available with passport on the PBS app.
We're back here in Conway.
Let's take a look at the trivia question from U.S.
Army, who holds the Arkansas record for most assists in a career.
That name looks familiar, Jamie.
I think it does.
You know, coach feeling the head coach for Fayetteville might be some relation there.
Kennedy feeling.
How about that 3972 assists playing at Florida State.
Right now.
It's a good volleyball program U.S.
Army where leadership teamwork and discipline go beyond the courts.
That one is beyond the course of play.
And the point for Fayetteville, much needed for the Bulldogs to find a way to slow things down with that timeout.
Going to run here, get your offense set up, serve tough.
They haven't had a lot of errors.
Just one.
But on the flip side they've only had one ace.
That's right.
So 1712 now Conley's lead cut to five.
Purple dogs got to find a run to get back in this.
Ring Jones not going to provide this at least right now.
Another kill for the future Evansville player 12 kills on 18 attacks.
My sources tell me that's good.
Efficiency.
That is high.
High efficient and so impressive, too.
She didn't have to do with power that time.
She noticed the hole the defense rolls.
It takes off of the off the kill and find a spot.
I think that's an underrated attribute or characteristic for players to recognize when the defense out of position and when finesses need him, and not necessarily power into exactly.
And knowing that you can execute two, because sometimes players try to take off of it and they hit it into the net, or they float it too long, she does it perfectly.
No need to take off.
There is a big swing from Fayetteville.
Hogue gets the kill.
Back to Jones.
The final chance to get back in it.
Here.
Big swing with the blocks there for Conway.
Just when you think Fayetteville has got a chance to attack Sylvia Jones.
Excuse me, Sylvia King for Conway with the block.
And you got them on the front line.
Jones playing.
It's tough to get a by 1913.
But another service error against Conway.
They're clearly attacking that back row trying to connect to that back line.
Makes it 1914.
Yeah.
And I like the idea if you're Conway right.
You're just trying to apply the pressure playing it very aggressive serving tough I mean that that was kind of the M.O.
for Conway.
Serve tough.
And they've done that.
It was going to make a run.
They need to do it now.
That serve though.
Excuse me.
That swing.
Get the handle on Conway with another kill.
That's four now for and of Smith for a piece for cabin talk.
Sellers and Smith Kings got five and then Jones pacing all scorers with 12 kills.
It's pretty good distribution.
A big swing, nicely dug out on the far side from Smith Cabin to attack into the net though.
And Fayetteville gets the points.
And I think the block was there to really nice job.
The it's.
So 2015 Fayetteville still trailing by five here in set number two.
That one though catches the net doesn't get across.
They say no touch from Fayetteville.
So 2016 with the purple dogs have a run in them.
You already talked about it.
Not saying you can't come from behind and pull a reverse sweep, but you really want to clean this up for Fayetteville.
Find a way to climb back.
A lot of touches back and forth right at the net.
Fayetteville and Conway duking it out and will miss it there from Smith.
And Fayetteville has got a chance to go on the attack.
That attack way too strong though.
Missed opportunity for the Purple Dogs.
And Conway is now four points away from taking a two to nothing lead, just 2 to 2 high off the hand.
They don't think she hit it quite cleanly.
Big separation to try to the block two not to look that Fayetteville wanted.
You got.
That's the look Fayetteville needed as they get back into the point column.
Claw back within four.
But Conway is more than happy enough to trade points at this juncture of set number two.
I think Doe for Fayetteville now baity serving kind of get her involved in the offense just a little bit more.
Got to get her going.
Chance for Fayetteville here to get back into it.
They go to Miller.
Miller puts it down.
Big swing there for the lefty.
South pole right side.
Forget about it.
Straight hammer take a look at that.
Lines up pounds it through Molly Miller keeping Fayetteville around in the second set.
Fayetteville and Conway coming down for these two teams JB it just always been this I mean I kind of sound like a broken record because they're here a lot.
But it's just they're kind of setting the standard setting the bar for volleyball in the state.
But it is almost entertaining and comical that they did each other dirty work.
Fayetteville.
That's right.
You know, struggled with Bentonville.
Conway struggled with Cabot.
So the other teams just took out those two teams in the semifinals.
And that's how the 2 to 2 seats got here to the championship.
Yeah.
Did it under five sets to A31 win for Conway three zero sweep for Fayetteville over Cabot.
And you're right Cabot beat Conway every single time they play for Bentonville.
Knocked off every single time they played them.
This is set up really nicely for a really good state championship matchup.
But right now Fayetteville has got work to do.
It's going to try to climb back.
That's right.
So 2118 at Fayetteville at serve.
And probably who you want back on that service line.
And Piper baby no kidding.
That's exactly why that's an ace for Piper.
The future Mizzou Tiger trying to will go back into this second set.
That's just the second ace of the match for Fayetteville.
And guess what babies got both of them.
Third consecutive point for Fayetteville trying to keep it going here.
They try to dump that time Fayetteville able to scramble back the swing for Lauren Taylor can't be handle the block.
Make it four straight points for the Purple dogs.
Don't look now Fayetteville got no quitting on.
They cut this deficit all the way down to one 2120.
He knew that Fayetteville was not going to go easily.
Is 2523 in that first set that Conway won this one looking very similar big swing there from Smith and some miscommunication.
Couldn't get there.
Looked like Isabella Street.
Lost sight of where the ball was as a shot straight up and Fayetteville couldn't get a hand on it.
That's a really nice jump swing there from Smith.
Really good block from Fayetteville.
Got the soft block but then no one came to pick it up on the second.
So Conway now three points away from taking this set and not right now.
Another big swing from Taylor.
The outside hitter came to play kill number five for Lauren Taylor to boy she's been dynamite there on the outside pin with 221.
Lauren Jones that one blocked and returns Fayetteville has climbed all the way back to tie this at 22.
I tell you right now something that has not happened very often today.
And this match is blocking Ryan Jones.
But they did it there.
And Fayetteville's got all the momentum in the second set.
Now it was 20 to 14.
Conway had the lead eight of the last ten though going by way for Fayetteville.
No chance to add to it here.
Taylor's swing that one though did it catch the line.
Yes.
The block gives Conway the lead back.
Boy that's a pivotal point right there because if Fayetteville gets one, they feel like they got a chance in controlling the set.
The first one at 23 feels really good about closing out the set.
Took a look at how close it was that one just maybe one rotation away from being out.
But Conway, the beneficiary the tip nicely plays.
They're going to say Tomlin kept it alive though.
Miller she tries to go cross court dug by Cobb talk Jones blocked again.
Nicely done.
Right in the middle for the defense.
And Fayetteville and who else Mackenzie Hogue Big-Time stuff from Hogue.
Returning the favor is Fayetteville after Conway got a big stop.
What an effort.
And save from Jobi Harrell but Fayetteville not going away in the second set.
Hogue leads Fayetteville 82 blocks coming into today.
Will try to dump again.
And that time it works nicely performed for Conway.
It's the third or four time we've seen that.
For Conway, it's been successful.
The execution from common talk on that was perfect.
It looks like she's setting it up just normally to her middle, and set it so soft over the top of napping.
Set point for the cats up Fayetteville.
They go quick.
Set hoop back, keep your eyes up because that one's come up with some smoke goodness behind that.
That one now never feels good.
So Fayetteville emphatically ties this match up at 24.
Taylor on serve.
Has got to scramble and Jones attacks into the net.
Conway is going to take a timeout.
Fayetteville has got a 2524 lead.
Will step aside with them.
Who's taking home set number two.
Stick around.
Find out.

Brian Clark's the the head referee today, Pam Allmendinger, Mitch Ford and Brett Bang in the down.
Officials today appreciate their hard work.
They called the six a state tournament and rewarded with a chance to come championship as well.
Big serve there for Fayetteville.
Conway has got to do it for the game just to get it across.
Fayetteville chance to take the second set.
That one gets across Fayetteville asking for a lift.
They don't get it.
Purple dogs again.
Set the offense a quick set and put down the purple dogs thanks to a skill from Kinsey Hogue, have tied this at a set apiece.
Needed that if you're a Fayetteville and they go back to the well great set up and then powerful from Kinsey hold the sophomore to send us to the third Fayetteville Conway.
And now in a best of three after they split the first two sets.
Stick around.

Arkansas PBS student All star is none other than a player out on the floor.
Piper Baty, the Mizzou commit senior 4.0 plus GPA.
Again, I don't even know how you do that.
These kids are so smart.
It's unreal.
Plus, what does that mean?
Yeah, that's a good question.
See, I never had a plus.
I didn't know what a plus would be, but above a four is my guess.
I miss the kindergarten days when I got an S first satisfactory pass.
It not exceptional, just satisfactory.
And then P for me for participation.
Oh, you're one of those.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
They got more than just participation going on right now between Conway and Fayetteville as the Purple Dogs storm back.
Takes that number two to even this thing up with the field.
And now they jump out to an early lead thanks to the big swing in the middle.
Boy, how big was that set to you know a couple of points away from potentially looking at down two sets to nine.
And Conway's got all the momentum.
Now this is a brand new match here.
And Jones takes that momentum and drives it into the multicolored floor.
The Thunder off her swing I mean the block.
And there's a little bit of a gap.
But yeah man it just comes off the arm.
So fiery hot I can't tell if it's a little too loud in here and see if the the sound resonates on the TV broadcast like it does in the arena.
You can see it sounds differently coming off her hands.
It's like a pitcher in a field baseball diamond where the catcher catches, it, pops out.
She's got that that just different swing when she hits the ball.
That's a good comparison.
Fayetteville says I got a little swing back here as well as the back row attack can't be handled.
So you want to hear that?
Hear this from Piper, Peyton boy, you can hear that swing.
We have been spoiled here today in Hot Springs.
A high level volleyball.
Oh, no doubt, no doubt about it.
We're nowhere near done.
Conway on the attack.
If you're tuning in for the two way championship match up between Hackett and Taylor, we'll just stick around for a while.
Yep.
We've got a little ways for.
We can get their tip there for Conway.
Fayetteville can't adjust.
Can I say that if you're a Taylor or Hackett fan?
Because the four championship with the five sets, the five championship at the five sets in Fayetteville and Conway here, and the six eight championship are now tied at this decide a piece and I'm going to leave it at that.
Yeah.
Because you know you know what's trending.
Yeah.
Been there done that twice today.
And honestly it's it's kind of easy to sit back and watch.
Oh mesmerized all four teams we saw in the early two games.
And plus these two I mean is is high level very few mistakes very few errors.
It is just good quality volleyball.
And that's what you expect when you get to a championship.
Sure.
And a lot of times though, with emotions you do see things pile up with the attacking errors or services.
There's not been that much all day long.
Yep, that's exactly right.
Fayetteville has got A43 lead.
He's Jamie Brazil I'm Bobby Swofford.
Thank you for tuning in today.
Spending your Saturday afternoon with us right here on Arkansas PBS.
Championship season is almost upon us.
I guess it is upon us for volleyball.
But as that attack lands for Fayetteville, A53 lead, football's coming up in about a month.
First two weekends in December.
We've seen the promo run a couple times.
The commercial break here, of course, basketball march in the same building will change up the floor.
They put up a couple of baskets, but we'll play.
We'll play hoops here in baseball.
Softball coming up.
That's right.
It's a good time.
Good time.
High school athletics right now in Arkansas.
Golf and tennis.
And just wrapped up cross country next week.
And then a lot of trophies.
Championship time.
That's right.
Everybody loves that right down there.
Some good talent in this state too across all sports classifications.
You know I think the one thing that I really enjoy talking with all the coaches this week was the, the the level of volleyball in Arkansas had to continue to improve year after year because it used to be a very northeast portion of the state.
They dominated, you know, Valley View and West Side and Jonesboro, Brooklyn, and in Brooklyn, obviously.
And now then you throw in, okay, the northwest started to take off for the Fayetteville and Bentonville.
Shiloh Christian been really good.
Now the Fort Smith River Valley has got big time programs.
Parris and Hackett.
Yeah.
And Conway Benton.
And we saw little Rock.
Excuse me, Pulaski Academy earlier today.
Arkansas's becoming a volleyball sport.
And then they go down south, they get it right.
And they just started the program, what, six years ago?
Yeah.
So volleyball is certainly on the rise in Arkansas.
And today is a prime example of and that's why we're seeing such high level.
Yeah I think you're absolutely right.
And as it develops at the club level you get a lot more you know younger girls starting to play.
You get better athletes over time just because there's more availability, more of them are playing.
Yeah.
I think one of the most impressive things that multiple coaches said and I don't coach feeling said it, Coach Crow said.
It is like they're getting a lot of credit for is a nice back row attack.
They're they're getting a lot of credit for the players that show up already.
Yeah, the club level, the junior highs that the volleyball at that level is getting.
So much better and they get to the high school, they're able to take them to even newer heights.
It's gotten to the point where both coaches will tell you that most of our players, if not all, are very active in the club level.
Where's your spark?
That isn't used to be the case.
You didn't play club right?
Seven seven.
These two teams just cannot put any distance between themselves.
We're tired of the set a piece.
And really that's kind of been the same in all the matches today.
Every set has been really close.
That's what it's already gone along just because of five sets.
But they've all been close.
Every single one of those sets.
Oh, we knew we were going to be in for a heck of a day when the first set of the entire day with 3129 and a set that's supposed to go to 25.
So that match not matching.
Yeah.
And the team that won that set didn't even won the right.
But it's still going to try to get in the offense.
Now a nice job by Taylor to take a little off.
Lobs it over the block and catches the line.
Wow.
Almost like a little cut shot.
Not really quite sure how she kept it in.
I thought initially that ball was going to go awry.
But she placed it perfectly and kept it in for eight seven Fayetteville's got a lead here in set number three, the always important set three when things are all tied.
Oh no catches a line.
How about a service ace for the Bulldogs?
That was a tough one.
Two for Braylen.
Merritt thought about trying to let it go, but guess what?
Three aces on the day for Fayetteville and all of them belonging to Bailey.
And she's still on that service line for Fayetteville.
That one right into the net gives it right back.
I just tried to go a little bit softer.
Sometimes that can be a problem if you just take a little too much off.
She can get the angle, kept it low into the net and.
A big swing there catches the pin though on the block attempt.
So Fayetteville back into the point column.
You know you can beat the block.
Those doing that they've done a really nice job on their side defensively with the block.
But that time Conway just can't keep that in play.
Off the pin up.
Set for the outside and that one's into the net as well.
So Conway will run into a little scuffle here.
And they trailing 11 eight.
And that's a good set to Smith.
The problem was fayetteville's all over that the block was there already established early.
Smith didn't have anywhere to go.
Tried to split it.
Sometimes when you change midair you don't get what you want.
Hits it into the net.
That one does just tick over the tape for Fayetteville.
Lucky break there on the attack from Conway as well.
Long and coach Laura Crow is going to take a timeout.
Feels this one slipping away and will step away as the lady cats looking for an answer.
And you're looking for huge hits, big plays or title game celebrations.
We've got it all for you.
That's good.
That's the 11th touchdown, Brian.
It's the Centennial Bank state football Championships live from War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

These are a great championship keepsake caddy.
Doing some solid work today as he always does.
Yeah, the best of the best with that.
He's the really tall one walking around here.
It's the same with the camera.
Miller's attack that's blocked at the net with Conway scrambling to keep it alive.
Nicely done though, Smith recognizes Fayetteville's left the defense wide open in the middle, dumps it across.
Those are big points and matches in a set where you're trailing.
That's a busted play.
You're out a system.
You're not supposed to get a kill.
Technically, it's not very high percentage, but you can't Fayetteville it kind of out of shuffle there.
Now use that as a run.
Again, the magical timeouts lead to an immediate point for Fayetteville.
Immediately erases that.
A big swing from Kenzie Hogue.
Polk says no magical out.
My goodness.
Throws that down.
He's been impressive.
That's a really good set too.
Just splits the block.
Something changed midway through the second set, where Fayetteville seemed like they were on the ropes.
Made a big run to that set.
Now they feel like they're in control here.
In set number three for Conway, you're starting to see a little bit of the emotions kind of creeping in sometimes.
And it gets easy to say this, but whenever you're up 2014, the second set, you're looking to go one set away from a sweep and then Fayetteville turns it on.
Now Conway seems like a reeling a little bit.
When Jones tries to go down the line, that's snuffed out, Fayetteville attacks.
The back row dug out nicely from Merritt Jones again.
That time the blocks not there for Fayetteville and Jones for the run stopper in the kill for it off balance to get to such a very difficult swing to make.
Jones the sets over the top.
Look at her.
Her body.
She's almost tilting her head straight back over the top, pounds it through and up.
A block couldn't get it across for Conway.
Another kill for Taylor in Fayetteville and now Fayetteville exporting that block of Conway.
Wampus cats aren't getting the stops that they did early in the first set.
Early in the second set two and Fayetteville high efficiency now on the attack.
Fayetteville doing a really nice job of spreading the wealth as well.
Piper baby ten kills to lead the way.
But Hogue and Taylor each have eight.
And Jones with the winner.
15.
11.
Fayetteville has got a lead here in set number three.
Still a long way to go.
Nice working that from Fayetteville.
Keeps that one alive.
But the dump attempt snuffed out there from Fayetteville.
Common talks Fayetteville sleeping a couple times Jones that one rejected catches the line.
Another big time block in the middle from home.
Big time is exactly right.
Jones almost splits it through.
But Hogue is there and Fayetteville block showing up big.
This is something they hang their hat on really all through state tournament, especially against Cabot.
It's showing up when it matters most.
Five blocks for Kinsey today here in this Championship this year 87 on the season.
Quick set in the middle.
Not there for Fayetteville.
Quick set the other way.
It works for Conway Sylvia King with the kill.
Good set up and it comes so quickly.
That's what you're going to have to do against Fayetteville.
You got to set up the attack pretty quick because their block establishments very, very good.
And if they're they're good block trying to pound it through here.
And Jones on serve now for Conway.
Drills it by for her.
Seeing the quick sets on both sides.
Works for Fayetteville is Isabella Streets.
The six foot senior gets the kill.
And that's what happens when you got Taylor Hogue baity really starting to heat up a little bit.
It allows that open in the middle to really start revving up.
And Fayetteville is taking advantage.
Street hasn't had many attacks.
That was just her second of the day, but makes it count.
1712.
This one's going at you.
Oh, and just lost the monitor on that one.
That's not in the budget to replace.
But I did catch it.
Did you tell them I did think I get you tried.
I tried to catch it.
You're going to take that out of you.
Out of your pay.
Nice job again.
The dump from Conway saw so many diamond arms for Fayetteville.
Just that gap in between defenders for Fayetteville.
Too large.
Conway takes advantage and sometimes it's what you take, right?
The soft stuff right there.
Little campfire.
Three defenders jumping in to not able to get it.
Yet again, you can do it.
You can try it too.
But nice job from Conway coach feeling seeing that one touch turf.
Cross court attacks there for Conway and coach Jessica feeling.
Still want to have a conversation about that tip across.
She's saying that it hit the floor.
She's hoping that the L2 or the R2 can overturn that call, but the head ref was the one that saw it first.
I just don't know if they're going to be to overturn this.
It is asking coach feelings, asking at least for a discussion.
Officials do have headsets, so they're going to get together and talk about it so they don't have to come down the ladder.
Let's take a look at it again.
It's Ren Jones trying to lay out and get a hand underneath.
Oh yeah I don't know if coach feelings got a good she's got a good argument.
That one definitely got down before Jones got a hand there.
But the call on the floor was that Jones got a hand on it.
It looks like the call is going to stay.
So Conway catches a break.
Fourth, there's no review in high school volleyball.
Yet.
Yes.
Yeah.
Speak that to existence okay.
Just add to the title game for the first state in the country that does for for baseball and softball.
Well, that attack goes long.
Fayetteville was asking for a touch.
They don't get that call either.
So Conway starting to inch back into it.
For just barely missed it.
I think King's pretty glad she let it go.
1815 Fayetteville at.
That's a way to end the run.
The big swing from the left side that anytime you need it in a rally, go to your powerful hitters.
And they did just that Fayetteville back in front by four.
Up baby answer for Fayetteville Conway handles it quick set in the middle of blocks.
There.
Reset for Conway.
Back row attack blocks there again.
One more time for Conway blocks there.
One more time for Fayetteville.
You're going to have to find a different solution.
And that's how Conway does.
Haven sellers avoids the block, gets the kill Isabella Street three straight blocks and so Conway took a different road to that time.
Didn't try to go after street gets around it.
That's got to be so frustrating for Street doing your job.
Not once not twice, but three times.
And Conway still finding a way to get it done.
Yeah, no kidding.
Smith tip doesn't work Fayetteville Miller tries to.
That one is going to work Molly Miller little teardrop in Fayetteville can start the countdown.
They're five points away boy really nice execution and up top anywhere.
College really needs a point pulling the string.
Great off speed from Fayetteville.
Leila Blagg five six sophomore back to serve for Fayetteville.
The dump not there but Fayetteville into the net.
And they're going to get Taylor as the guilty party.
And once again that little center down little tip over has caused Fayetteville a lot of problems today.
Robin talks done a really nice job of recognizing Fayetteville is not adjusting to it and keeps going back to that.
Well block shows up for Fayetteville on the quick set.
Back to Miller that one can't be handle on the back row.
Merritt had flailing arms but couldn't keep it alive.
And you see what's happening to you.
You've had a lot of soft stuff over to that back cross, creeping in to guard the little tip.
That one goes deeper.
It's tough to get underneath it because you're closer to the net.
Really nice shot from Fayetteville to exploit that one.
Like you need a ball to play volleyball on this.
That's what I'm told.
That's why I like it when you're right.
Miller's going to be on serve for Fayetteville here leading 2117 in the always important set.
Number three Brian Jones holding make bringing that hammer John Lee Brian Jones absolute dynamite just takes off and elevates.
Her head is over the net and just drives that one home.
Quick tip there.
Box defense resulting in offense for Conway.
Wow that's been there.
Two for Fayetteville.
Coach Freeland knows it wants a timeout.
Really good one handed set by Conway.
Denies access.
Somebody has got a win.
Set number three Conway going to have to make a run here in the final stages Fayetteville still has a 2119 lead.
Our JB put on your coaching whistle.
What are you telling your teams in these huddles.
You know for Conway too there's a couple of things going right now Fayetteville blocks been really really good.
Got to set up some offense a little bit quicker.
Staying system sure.
But you also had had an ace in a while.
So serve tough.
You know I think at this juncture in the set, if you get an error or two you can live with it.
Serve tough.
But I think more than anything is be ready for Fayetteville.
Quick attack those dumps.
You've got to figure out a way to be there for the tips, but also stay far enough back on the back row attacks that if they bring the hammer, you're there to dig it again.
If you just tuned in, you're looking for Taylor and Hackett in the two way championship game.
I don't know what time that's going to start, to be honest.
It's going to be today at some point maybe.
Yeah, supposed to start at 505.
Obviously this one, didn't start on time or with an hour late.
You can see the trend there.
How about that?
All the ties, all the lead changes to evenly matched teams.
We've seen it all day long this back and forth.
How about an ace for Conway?
Wow.
This third set is far from over.
Bobby Payne.
Just when you think a team's about to take off and run away and hide having a big run, Fayetteville led 18 to 12 here in this third set.
Conway is stormed almost all the way back.
Hey big swing.
That one zero catches coach feeling she's not in place of the attack.
As long.
Took that like a champ right off the leg.
Coach feeling might be feeling that one too What you did there.
Ha.
How?
That's a big break though for Fayetteville, as Conway had all the momentum.
Big serve there from Fayetteville.
Conway handles it back to Jones.
She tries to touch this stuff to get it across the middle.
Another tip that one works keying again Sylvia with the GP right across the net.
But that's a really good play from King.
Just lollipop.
Almost like an off speed.
She does that I'm sure when she pitches it.
2221 Fayetteville is clinging to a one point lead, Olivia Frazier serving for Conway, and it goes long.
Another service error against the cats.
And Conway is going to take a timeout.
So we'll take one with them at 2321.
Somebody's got to win.
Set number three real.
Find out 60s.
You ready?
Let's do it.
There's so nice to have you here.
It's worth it.
Wheels up in five.
Very simple, but very elegant food.
Trying to save your father's life.
Excited?
I can't wait.
Fayetteville clinging to the smallest margin.
2321 lead over Conway.
Here in set number three.
It's A6A state championship game.
He's JB Brazil I'm Bobby Swofford.
This set has been as good as you might expect it to be.
JB has a thriller thrown through.
Every single match has fit the billing thus far.
Brian Jones takes a little off there on the dig for Fayetteville shows up.
Again, the big swing the block.
Conway's defense again rises to the challenge.
Sylvia King another block against a player who does not get blocked very often.
Piper baiting.
It was Sylvia King all over it for the solo fourth block of the match for King and Conway.
80 tries the other side.
That one doesn't work.
The tip for Conway that's snuffed out but goes wide and we are all tied at 23.
Fayetteville is going to take a timeout, discuss things.
That's why these points, this team save these timeouts because you can't afford to give up a 3 or 4 point run as soon as Back-To-Back points happen in the 20s you got to burn that timeout, J.B.
absolutely.
It's we've seen the teams that have called those timeouts.
It's usually paid off for them.
Wow.
Look at this one.
The block set back Fayetteville's done a nice job at the net defensively their blocks, but they've really mixed in some soft stuff.
Their attacks they've distributed well.
Conway's had a lot go their way and you're right this timeout you know it's easy to say this and I'm sure I'll be wrong.
But this set is so crucial.
Who wants to win the match.
Always.
All three sets have been nip and tuck.
Conway won the opener 2523.
Fayetteville comes back 2624.
In the second set, we are all tied at 23.
These two teams just leaving it all out there and you can tell the the margin between these two is razor thin.
They were glad they got that extra day rest for the state to get it.
Back.
Baby the big swing dug out by Jones.
They go cross gorgeous convoy.
That one's dug Fayetteville again.
Tries a long tipped.
Nice rotation over from Merritt.
Another tip from Conway Fayetteville rallies.
She's got to find a way.
Colvin dump doesn't work.
Quick set right in the middle.
Attack dug out on the back row but can't be handled.
What a big swing right off of black.
And now Conway all of a sudden who trailed 18 to 12, has a chance to steal set number three.
They mix it up so well.
Cabin talked to King who's been doing soft that time.
She rears back and pound it off the back.
At Fayetteville though they try to answer back.
Can't do so tips not there Fayetteville resets the offense baity.
Nice job by Jones.
Back to Smith.
The tip not there.
Fayetteville's block on top of it.
Another block by Fayetteville.
Purple dogs have a chance to get the offense going here baby.
The big swing again dug out by Jones.
Smith.
The big swing put down.
What an effort to come back in.
Set number three from Conway.
Trailed it 18 to 12.
Now they're a set away from a state title.
Well executed well to time and time again you have a chance for an attacking error.
Nope.
Well executed.
And that one finished off by Anna Smith on Thriller from cozy Cat.
What a rally from the Lady Cats.
They're a set away from winning the state title.

You and me both partner.
This is the third consecutive outstanding match we've already had today here in Hot Springs, and we're nowhere near done with back to back errors for Fayetteville as Conway up two.
Nothing here in set number four.
I hate to rain on Conway's parade, but each set the team that's jumped out a lot had a big gap has usually not been the team th Oh, no.
No.
Fly the tips.
Not there.
Fayetteville.
Come on out of sorts.
Here to start that fourth set.
Yeah.
The block not excuse him.
The tip not there for common talk out of this discombobulation here.
That missile delivered on the line from Ron Jones.
Goodness, that is some thunder.
Absolutely buried.
Might have a Kim trail behind it.
Hey, that was a really nice dig, by the way, to set that whole thing up for Conway and Braylen Merritt and Molly Miller trying to answer with the blocks there.
Four consecutive points for Fayetteville.
Excuse me.
For Conway against Fayetteville.
It goes.
Jessica feeling trying to get some momentum change go their way.
You don't want to call timeout too early either.
You're hoping your team can weather it.
But boy you can't allow too much more to go on it.
Let it escape early on here and set for that one into the net.
Did not get across there saying no touch from Fayetteville.
So the purple dogs are on the board here in the set.
And that's a big two for fable.
Just get something to go your way.
Get a stop.
Now trying to figure out a way to get things rolling.
That's a lot of service errors for Conway, but it's paid off.
They've been aggressive.
They have a few aces to boot.
And.
It's her first look at Lydia Washington number six out there for Fayetteville.
She was on the attack.
Brian Jones that's not our first look at her.
She drives another home.
That's a reason she's going to play at the next level.
That attack right there is so difficult because you're standing planted.
Go straight up.
You're so far away from that you have to hit that ball perfectly without hitting into the net.
If you hit too tall, it's going to be out of play.
That's excellent.
Kill number 20 for Robin Jones and she is over the 500 mark for the season now.
503 to be exact.
Well, if Conway holds off the win, I think I know who are MVP.
Is going to be tough to.
Real thrilled Nostradamus over here figuring out who the center was on who holds the most assists.
Man, your knowledge is second to everyone.
At best yeah.
Oh I kid because I care.
You're the best JB we have a great time.
Nice swing there.
Piper.
Bailey and Fayetteville needed it.
Baby.
Big time.
That's the kind of stuff you want to see from really your leader offensively.
Get her going.
High efficiency when she's in rhythm and in system.
Swing pays off that serve just long.
Nice job by the Conway defense to recognize where they were on the floor.
Unless that one fly by so tough you know a lot of times the rule of thumb is, is if you're standing backwards and you've got to raise your arms really above your waist much and you're already knowing where you're at, it's probably going to be a long favor returned the other way as Conway sends that serve long two straight back to back errors.
So it's six for Conway.
And you know, you could talk about the errors that Conway's have.
But I also think in some ways it's been part of their game plan to be aggressive.
And it's paid off a little bit.
That attack right into the net.
Conway gives it back a couple sometimes even, you know, high efficiency.
And it is to go to the middle with King the blocks there at Fayetteville.
Oh so good on the block.
That one does just get across Jones the back row attack.
Coach sellers didn't like the call.
There.
That big time attack.
Nice job dug out.
But Fayetteville couldn't keep it alive.
Coach Freeland saying that.
Run Jones attack from the back row.
She was across the line.
If she's in the back row, you cannot.
You got to jump from behind that line in the back row or otherwise.
It's a it's a fault.
It was close, but apparently referees didn't see it or at least didn't think it was.
Yep.
So if you're a back row player, you have to leave the floor before you get across that line.
You can land beyond it, but you got to jump before you know.
Jones again for the back row attack.
That one though catches a lot of tape.
They may give it credit to the block for Street, but I don't think that one was going to get across either way.
Now it's tough in that back row to get enough on it, especially with the block is there.
You either got to go around it, take a look.
The double was there was actually a block.
Nice job from Street.
So first block of the afternoon.
And that serve can't be handled for Merritts and Fayetteville's.
Put together a little run to tie this up at seven six.
The ace of the match.
First of the day.
That time from McPike.
So it's A73 run for Fayetteville after Conway scored the first four points of the set.
And that one his wide.
I'm telling you, the team that's jumped out, it seems like the other team just jumps right back in it.
That's to me that's the sign of good teams, good coaching.
They don't panic.
They don't try to do too much to stay within their own system.
Nice job at the net there, Piper baity.
The dig couldn't be handled a little too strong on the return.
Easy pickings for Piper Baity.
And that's such an excellent high IQ play from Bailey.
A lot of players will want to get up and swing and power that down.
That was a two handed control.
She knew there was.
She had an easy point.
Just finish it.
Miss it there from Conway on the inside.
The Haven sellers in Fayetteville who trailed four.
Nothing now leads Conway 10 to 7.
And Coach Crow is going to take a timeout.
We'll pay some bills.
You step aside.
Fayetteville leads a ten seven on Conway in the fourth.

Fayetteville on a ten three run here.
And they must have it.
Set number four for the Purple Dawgs.
You got to naturally you don't have any more room to work with.
But for them a chance they've jumped on after Conway jumped back out of timeouts, though, the team that's usually done, that's gone on a little bit of a run.
Ten seven didn't handle that serve cleanly.
So Conway's just going to have to get it over the ball.
That one's well long.
And the run continues for the purple and black for first touch from Colin Tucker wasn't great in that attack.
She just felt a little uncomfortable, but kind of just flushed that.
Fayetteville pushing their lead up to 400.
That serve catches the line calling an ace for Fayetteville boy.
The job that McPike has done at the service line.
Incredible.
From the junior.
Another good serve there if Conway handles it.
That one though off the mark down the line.
Fayetteville's run continues.
Goodness.
What is it about each set going back and forth?
Fayetteville on a large run.
Now.
It's just been incredible.
13 to 3 is the run now.
Took a little off there.
Did Fayetteville on the serve.
But that time Conway able to bounce back and finally and as Smith gets credit for the kill and at least for the moment stops the bleeding.
She's been really good over there on that outside pins have been good for Conway, as has been the case for Fayetteville.
Smith uses her power to get that one through.
Breaks a streak of eight consecutive points for the Purple Dogs and make it back to back points.
As the blocks chose a big Addie cut off.
Against Piper Baity.
Nonetheless, that is a tall task.
The sets, they're gone now and sellers, but it was all Addie Connell.
Was going to have a going right back to Bailey though.
Dug out by Jones Smith.
She can't be blocked at the net, but Fayetteville keeps it alive.
Back to Smith again.
The blocks there for Fayetteville.
That double block is doing some damage for the Purple Dogs.
And I think that's a recipe of it.
As Smith got tired of hitting into it.
Tried to maybe be a little too cute with the tip and mishit it.
Any time you get them to alter things a little bit.
The blocks there, if you can.
If you can slow it down, the soft block helps.
And then you're right.
Connell Smith started just just a little too much and couldn't get it over 49 is the margin for Fayetteville.
These two went to five sets a couple of years ago when they met here in the Championship.
Not speaking that into existence, but just giving you some facts on attack goes long Fayetteville's got all the momentum and everything's going their way.
It's trending that way by me.
Wouldn't have it any other way.
Jamie.
That's just more in time for you and I have sit next to each other and I like the way you put it.
People in the truck there look at these guys.
Get them off the air.
Right.
Yeah.
Much needed from convoy of the attack in the middle.
The big swing from Haven sellers, who's quietly having herself a solid match.
No kidding.
Give her six kills on the day.
Hitting above 250 there in that middle.
Got a good look.
Nice set up.
She capitalizes.
It's Miller.
She's been relatively quiet today based on her standards.
Wyn Jones not so much.
Another kill for the Conway star.
That's three touchdowns for Red Jones.
My goodness.
And three extra points I guess to 21.
That's what I'm trying to say.
Fayetteville tries to answer the set off the mark there but Fayetteville keeps it alive.
Conway want to lift?
Don't get the call.
Right back to Taylor.
Taylor into the net though.
A little frustration there from Lauren.
She knew that she had some chance to get after it.
And Fayetteville is going to take a timeout and look at creeping back.
We've not seen one team lay down today in any single set.
You know, I don't think there's been a dominant set really for the most part in any of these matches today.
Now maybe set for when Marion really stormed back against Farmington.
That's true.
I mean, we're talking about, five, ten, 14 sets.
Now.
I'm trying to find one, and that may be a stretch.
I mean, that's what you expect, though, in the championship game, but there has been no clear cut.
Better team on the floor against one another in Fayetteville and Conway.
This trading blow after blow, as you might imagine with two heavyweights.
And anytime you have this go on, you know, being the competitive guy and you also see how hard they play.
You don't want to see anybody lose, right?
They they're both playing so well every match today the goodness someone's going to come out with a win.

Together, we can keep the spirit of Arkansas sports alive right here on Arkansas PBS Sports Molly Miller, big time swing from the left hander.
Oh goodness.
So much.
That is one heavy swing from Molly Miller the lefty on that right side.
Good luck trying to stop that a magical timeout works again for coach.
Feeling 1612.
Now the margin Jones comes flying in.
Might have been a little too aggressive though.
Across the line.
Net violation against Conway.
Yeah she hugged the net basically to save.
She realized that she oh I don't have a lot of room land here.
So Fayetteville lead back to five.
Jones makes up for it and then zone another kill for in even when the blocks there that time it wasn't so that makes it tough.
Take a look.
Goes down line blocks just a little late establishing and she takes advantage.
Even though sometimes you've got a perfect defense.
Velocity matters.
Yep.
Again velocity matters.
Good read.
Jones A tomahawk.
That's a rocket coming off that oh my goodness from Wren Jones.
She's not letting Conway go quietly here in set number four.
Got.
Go go go on.
The blocks there for Fayetteville.
But they can't control it.
And that one goes way for Conway and the Lady Cats putting together a run of their own.
But they're right back in it.
That was a nice job for Maddie Cornell.
Not trying to do too much on that right side.
Just get a good swing where it gets open.
It's blocked out of play.
Quick set in the middle.
Can't be handled.
The block was there, but Kenzie Hogue is powers through it.
Boy, that girl's got a bright future.
The sophomore.
She is something special.
251 kills coming into the afternoon for Kenzie Hove.
And nine more today.
Wyn Jones Credit Another one that was deflected wide in her in Jones continues to pile up the huge numbers for the lady Cat offense.
What you're going to see two is natural.
You're going to keep feeding her.
But it's a block comes there.
It's going to open up other options because Jones so successful that blocks just in the back of her mind.
They're going to be leaning oh they're trying to try to walk her.
Well you look at the attack numbers it makes sense.
She's got 51 attacks.
So the next highest totals 33.
Wow wow.
There they are feeding it to her.
Oh.
Tipped.
Not there for contact.
Conway tries to keep it alive, but can't.
All our system that time hit a little tip over.
Caused to problems.
Fayetteville snuffed it out.
Got that set right back.
And then they were really kind of put in perspective.
Those 51 attacks.
On the flip side, Piper has 39.
That's still a pretty hefty number that shows you how much pummel is trying to go to their superstar, and they get the benefit of the service area from Fayetteville.
That's big for Conway.
They're still within striking distance.
They're where they want to be in terms of this set.
If they go to the fifth, so be it.
But you got to be close to give yourself a chance.
And Fayetteville wants to make sure they don't give him one.
No question.
There's still plenty to be settled here in set number four.
Quick set right in the middle and quickly put down Sylvia King for the kill.
That's what happens when you get Jones rolling.
The block was late.
They didn't know where was going.
And then King sets up so quickly.
They're late.
King makes him pay.
A quick set is really worked well for both of these teams.
And that's a prime example of it for Conway.
Back row attack from Jones and Fayetteville.
Nicely done that.
The one handed set quickly hammered home has a big big point for Fayetteville for the six two system that Fayetteville runs Molly Miller one handed set that is textbook.
And then the finish from home to Fayetteville is so good.
And that type of system holds.
Now back to the service line.
After that kill.
Trying to put some pressure on this Conway squad but set a quick kill.
How about the explosiveness from King to spring up and quickly put it down man that's an athlete right there.
Clearly her ability on the softball field.
But wow gets up so quick that the up that she had two to have all kinds of energy went straight down.
She's now on the service line is Sylvia King.
Baby goes down the line.
No did not catch the line.
And guess what.
We are all tied again.
Conway led four.
Nothing.
Fayetteville had a massive run.
The Lady Cats have answered with their own.
We're all knotted up.
At.
Fayetteville back to back.
Tries to go cross court dug out by Smith.
They're going to go right back to her.
She goes cross court the kill.
How about the dig.
And they will order with a great defensive play.
And Fayetteville is going to take a timeout.
How quickly Smith got up after this dig to man to finish just like that.
And Smith having a great game when it matters most Conway just four points away Bobby there's Fayetteville going to force a fifth set.
It's called we're going to win a title.
We'll find out 45 seconds.
We'll step aside.

What a run that Conway has put together here.
And they have taken a 2120 lead and just four points away from winning a state title in Fayetteville.
They got something to say about it, though.
They're going to make it a lot more difficult trying to force a fifth and final set.
Fayetteville led 17 to 12 and Conway has come storming all the way back.
Jones another back row, kill Conway inches closer.
Wow.
They're out of system two.
Bobby.
That's out of system as can be in.
And they get a back row power ball from Jones.
You got to be kidding me.
King still on the service line for Conway.
It's four consecutive points for the Lady Cats.
Make it five.
All the momentum is on Conway side.
Fayetteville has zero timeouts left.
They've got to find a way to get an answer on the floor for King.
Don't be too aggressive.
But still like you just did keep going back to the well.
Taylor struggles to handle that serve.
Conway.
Excuse me.
Fayetteville just got to get it over quick.
Set in the middle again.
Put down for Conway.
And now the Lady Wampus Cats are two points away from going back to back.
That's a really good set amount of system.
Free ball goes with the high efficiency middle attack to sellers.
Knocks it down six consecutive points for Fayetteville.
Given up Conway has got a chance to win it.
Now.
Baby's attacks dug out.
They're going outside.
Smith attacks way too long.
And that ends the run for Fayetteville.
What I've been impressed, though, with Conway, is all the attacks in this set against Baty and Taylor.
The back row has dug up perfectly to keep them in system.
So Ava McPike, back on the service line for Fayetteville in the Purple Dogs, need a run.
Go outside Smith.
The swing that's dug out, but no.
Conway is your back to back six state champ.
What a flurry from the Wampus Cats to close game four.
It seemed destined to go to a fifth set, but Conway took all the momentum and they're about to get a trophy.
All right.
The defense to back row did an excellent job down the stretch taking up some very tough attacks from Fayetteville Brian Jones an excellent game.
But how fitting of Anna Smith down the stretch.
She finishes things off.
An excellent game for Conway.
And my goodness a thriller through and through.
Conway scored seven of the final ten points to take this one home.
We're going to take a time out Conway, your six eight state champions.
They're going to get the trophy for which they came.
Coming up, stick around.

A back and forth match ends with Conway winning a second consecutive six state championship.
JB it feels like we were destined to go to a set five, but what a run.
What a push in the end for Conway to get the job done.
And for it really was the way that these matches have gone.
You felt like Fayetteville had a late push on them and they did, but Conway weathered the storm.
They kept pushing the defense on that back row, I'm telling you, was dynamite down the stretch, able to keep the long rallies alive with the digs and pay dividends.
They're able to close things out with a big swing from Anna Smith.
The loudest kill of the night.
Smith seals the deal for Conway and the numbers picked up to 6440 over Fayetteville.
The attacks were up and the Dick's at 57 for Conway down the stretch.
A lot of those came in that fourth set.
Their defense was big.
And the blocks for Cardwell.
You think Fayetteville would win in that category?
It was Conway taking home the hardware with their defense and offense down the stretch.
Highlights back and forth.
And these two teams are really nip and tuck.
And you look at that last set.
That was the largest margin of any of the four sets 2521.
Really surprising to see a run like that because every team seemed to have an answer.
Fayetteville didn't have an answer.
In the end, it was that six one run to close it out, right.
Conway kind of felt like, hey, this is our chance.
If we go to a fifth, it's anybody's game.
Let's let's take control.
And they did A61 run.
The defense on the digs in the back row.
But then the attacks really close things out.
So Conway wins a second consecutive six state title.
Her 3/5 of the way done to a state championship.
Coming up next.
Hackett back in the finals again against upstart Taylor a team that's always in the softball finals.
Can they get it done here in Hot Springs?
