Welcome in to Majestic Park in the beautiful Hot Springs, Arkansas spa city.
As we welcome you to the three day baseball state Championship.
I'm JB Brazil alongside my man Bobby Swofford.
Two games already concluded today.
The 1:00 matchup, 4:00 between Ashdown and Harmony Grove should be a good one.
It should be an probably a matchup that not many people expected.
Even though Ashdown is your defending state champion.
They came into the state tournament just 13 and 13 on the season, but they got hot at the right time and they've got a chance to repeat.
Yeah, it's all about staying loose.
That's been the thing for Ashdown and for Harmony Grove.
They've got lots of weapons.
They they know what they're riding on.
They've got a really good arm as well.
Should make for a fun contest as the national anthem is being played.
Look a look at our player to watch for both of these teams.
It's Riley Williamson, the starting quarterback for Ashdown.
Well he's also coming off two straight straight complete games.
It's all about pitching when you get to the state tournament.
Williamson's been red hot on the mound for the Panthers of late to complete so straight complete games on the bump.
Ashdown is going to need a similar performance today as they take a loaded Harmony Grove offense.
No doubt about that.
What's it going to take for Ashdown?
We already talked about them playing loose, but they're also going to have to come in here red hot against him to get two out.
Hitting is important because they get the flash back to the semifinals.
How about a three run homer with two outs in the seventh inning to punch their ticket to a state championship and play loose?
Hey, the other underdog.
All the pressure is on Harmony Grove.
Go out there and play your game.
No doubt about that.
They know what's at stake and they also know who they're facing on the ballot.
Dax Hammett, the Texas Tech commit going to play for coach to deadlock.
He's really good.
Yeah yeah he's in the conversation for maybe best player in the state of Arkansas.
You see the numbers at the plate 405 batting average on base percentage north of 560.
But he's really good on the mound.
Going to sit between 88 to 92mph.
He's got a really good number two pitch.
It's going to be important for Ashton to work that pitch count to their advantage.
And for them obviously it's going to take control.
The ball.
What you expect with him at what else is going to take its don't let this stage be too much.
We've talked about how they're the favorite.
This has been back for an hour.
Both these fan bases showed up early.
They're ready for first pitch coming up.
But you can't let this atmosphere get to especially when you're that favorite.
No question about it.
We'll get you set for first pitch when we come back.

Harmony Grove will be the home team in today's three AA state baseball championships, so Ashdown will hit first in their offensive lineup.
Looks like this Caden white will lead things off, followed by Riley Williamson.
Taylor Mitchell will bat third.
Logan Johnson, Logan Erwin and Nate Castle will back 4 or 5 and six, and then Colton Rowe, Cade White and Braden Irwin will round out the order for the Ashdown Panthers.
Looking for Back-To-Back state championships after they knocked off Genoa Central a year ago.
Harmony Grove they want it in their lone appearance back in 2019, their second ever trip to the big dance.
Ashdown's kind of been a mainstay for the better part of the last decade.
In the Championship, you mentioned the only one they've won was last year, but this is their sixth appearance since 2014 playing for a state championship.
Town in southwest Arkansas has become a baseball power, no doubt about it.
Finally got over the hump with that win last year.
And here we go.
First pitch of the game from Dax Hamm.
It's a swing and a miss from Caden White.
And it's oh and one to begin the ballgame Ross Sherry is our home plate umpire.
Lance pass goes over at first and Austin Simmons the umpire and over at third.
The off is swung on and missed.
And Hammett's ahead oh two yeah that's a nasty breaking ball coming from that left side.
And Hammett's he's got it.
The batter's like putting his hand right now down.
Oh two.
Curveball swing and a miss Dax Hammett.
The bender.
That one just fell off the table.
You want to come out and establish yourself as a starting pitcher?
I'd say Hammett did exactly that.
Good morning.
Good afternoon and good night.
Sets him down on three pitches.
It'll bring in Riley Williamson.
Batting away with the bases empty and one gone and a heavy dose of curveballs from Hammett, that one dips below the knees.
So the first ball that he's thrown here early in the top of the first one.
Oh to Williamson, sails to the backstop, but it's two zero after three perfect pitches to start the contest.
A little wild facing his opposite pitcher.
Maybe a little head game.
Okay, I'll buzz the tower a litt No doubt that you're a little juiced up.
Two.
Right.
Two.
Oh, curveball.
That would, Mrs.
Hammett.
So after you mentioned three strikes to begin the game, gets the strikeout he's missed with three straight.
And that's one thing that Coach Buckner told us, you know, leading up to this contest is we can't hit can't give those free passes away and make Ashdown earn their way on to the base path.
But four straight, wide ones and the Panthers have their first base runner.
How about that?
Hammett looked brilliant to the leadoff hitter, Caden White, but a four pitch walk to Riley Williamson.
He didn't even have to bring his bat off of his shoulders.
Brings in the three hole hitter Taylor Mitchell.
Being able to settle the nerves, no matter if you've recorded a punch out already in this inning or not, when she loses on, especially when the stakes are so high in this state championship game, it's tough to get back in the zone.
Good to see Hammett start off with a strike here.
Harmony Grove, the home team with the game's first out to the leadoff batter, but Taylor Mitchell, the ash down third baseman curveball swing and a miss.
And Hammett's off speed.
That bender is straight filth.
He struggled to locate the fastball early on, but that breaking ball is certainly working, and Ashdown swinging a boat paddle right now going to have to protect the plate.
Now, if you're Taylor Mitchell, Dax Hammett trying to work for his second strikeout of the game, fastball gets away from the catcher.
So moving to second is Riley Williamson.
Wyatt Borden couldn't quite handle the hot stuff from Hammett.
And Ashton's got a runner in scoring position.
Elevated fastball there on the check swing, and this squirts away from the backstop and allows Ashdown to swipe an extra 90ft.
So now you mentioned the free passes walk and now a pass ball a runners in scoring position one two curveball fought off nicely by Taylor Mitchell.
That's an out pitch right there from Hammett.
He fights it off.
Hey that's a really good job on Mitchell two.
Awaiting to last a minute to throw the hands and just feet off the pitch and trying to seek another Dax Hammett one of the best players if not the best to come through Harmony Grove one two fastball right down the pipe caught him looking at it.
Took him two batters to locate the fastball, but that one place perfectly.
Hammett's face.
Three batters.
He punched two of them out, man.
That's where he kind of lulls you to sleep with the offspeed, and then hammers in with a fastball second out of the inning.
It's going to be all up to Logan Johnson, the Panther cleanup hitter.
If Ashdown's going to be able to do anything in the top of the first.
Hammond had 140 strikeouts coming into the state championship game.
You can see the stuff.
He's got big time swing and miss ability.
You saw Johnson there kind of letting his team know.
He he saw that was a curveball.
He gave the curveball motion.
He's picking up on it.
But sometimes with Hammett you can know what's coming and you still can't hit it.
It's hard not to focus on the offensive numbers for Hammett, but his pitching numbers are unreal.
62 innings this year, eight and zero as a starter.
How about an ERA of 0.60?
I think that's why Harmony girls playing for a championship, I would say so.
And I think there's a reason he's going to go play at Texas Tech when his high school days are done.
One one curveball over the heart of the plate and down in the count is Logan Johnson.
Breaking ball is certainly working.
A few pitchers will see this weekend.
It takes him an inning or two to settle in, get adjusted to the mound to locate the breaking ball.
Not the situation for him.
It one two curveball takes it dips below the knees.
Man Johnson thought about it able to lay off.
That's a really expert take.
Yeah, it really is.
I mean any time you can take a pitcher that's that close on that kind of movement and Hammett's talking to himself a little bit, maybe asking how in the world of Johnson lay off because that's it.
Out pitch.
Time and time again.
I can promise you he's got many strikeouts on that very pitch.
Two two runner goes fouled straight back by Logan Johnson.
He was guessing right.
Just missed it right on the fastball too I like the aggressiveness there for Ashdown two to put the runner in motion Williamson was going with the pitch.
Find a way to get that in through the infield.
You take an early lead.
You never want to make that final out of the inning at third base, but you've got your cleanup hitter on that.
Give him a new chance in the second half if you happen to get thrown out.
Sure.
I like that for sure.
Not going this time.
Curveball gets up and away saved by the catcher, Wyatt Borden, but I think maybe it might hang in the back of his mind that runner might be trying to go against.
Yeah, that one just kind of spun out of his hand of Hammett trying to throw it too hard.
And now the Count's full up.
Allow runner at second.
Two gone.
Hammett's trying to keep it there.
Pay off upstairs.
Johnson works to walk the second free pass of the inning.
Yeah, so that's when Harmony Grove says, hey, this is what we can't do.
That ball started at the top of the zone and started to break, but started that.
Dropped just a little too late.
We'll have a courtesy runner over at first base as Hayden Green is going to be the runner, but Ashdown now causing some drama even though they don't have a base hit.
That's right sophomore Hayden Green coming on the run you mentioned.
Yeah.
And that's what it's about.
They need that to work the pitch count.
If nothing else.
If you don't get the hits, if you can elevate him, it's pitch count.
Hang around, get him out of the game.
You might have a chance, I think, for the five hole hitter Logan Erwin, center fielder.
He would love to take advantage right here.
A drive in the game's first run, though.
It's a big spot here in the top of the first.
Fastball soared.
Couldn't hold up on the high heat.
Strike one.
Tried to check the swing, but that fastball elevated might have looked like a beach ball coming up.
And he wanted a hammering.
You like the aggressiveness, but Hammett certainly took advantage.
Oh, one pitch curveball.
That one hit to left field.
That's trouble.
Left fielder a long run down the line and makes the catch on the run.
Easton Fifer a big time play to end the frame.
So Ashdown threatens but nothing it Hammett works around it on that deep fly to left.
No harm done.
Ashdown comes up empty.
Harmony Grove a chance to strike first.

Moving along to the bottom of the first Ashdown, a goose egg in the top of the first.
And so the Cardinals of Harmony Grove, a chance to knock home the game's first run.
Their offensive lineup looks like this.
Tucker Blaylock will lead things off in play.
Second, Henry Chancellor and then Dax Hammett to follow Brody Miller, Luke Magoffin, Wyatt Borden 4 or 5 and six in the lineup, and then Landon Hughes, Easton Phifer and Maddox Fitz will round out the lineup, and then the shortstop will be Riley Walmsley, but he will not bat with this.
It will all be against the pitcher, Riley Williamson, who's had quite the dream postseason.
Yeah, back to back complete games and pitching has been the answer for Ashdown in this state tournaments.
Yeah of course you've got to win three to get here.
But all Ashdown did was take down number one seed Boonville 10 to 1.
Number two seed Perryville 2 to 1.
And then a team from their own conference Genoa Central 3 to 2.
This pitching staff is only giving up four runs in the entire state tournament.
Talk about throwing well at the right time.
No question about that.
Freshman Tucker Blaylock is the leadoff hitter, a 315 average, 15 RBI's on the season.
Just a ninth grader, Bobby.
That's a big time spot at the top of the lineup.
Well, talk about the confidence the coaching staff has in you as a freshman to put you in the leadoff spot and the state championship game as he rips a one to center, puts him right at the Panther center fielder.
So aggressive was Blaylock.
But Williamson gets the fly out to center.
Is hit well but kind of an out of ball for the first out.
Yeah right on the screws.
Made good contact.
But Williamson got exactly what he wanted in a big park here.
400 to dead center field.
Pitchers aren't going to be afraid of the fly ball unless it's likely to a left handed hitter.
They can go straight down the line to the Rightfield foul pole.
I trust you, you got a chance.
It's 305 down the right field line.
325 to the left field line.
Obviously the gaps.
And then straightaway center much further.
If you're going to get one out, your best chances to that right side of the field is it brings it.
Henry Chancellor, the Cardinal first baseman also a freshman, chops this out in front of the dish Williamson comes out.
Throw to first low but a nice job by Colton roll and two are gone.
Just like that Williamson does a nice job of springing off of the mound fielding his position.
You'll hear mentioned a lot another guy, Kevin Bohan, and loves to talk about it.
That's pitcher's fielding practice.
Comes off the mound.
Makes the play.
It's not a very ordinary play right.
It's not it's not routine.
But he comes off and makes it routine.
Dax Hammett, the Cardinals starting pitcher.
We'll get a chance to bat here in the three spot.
Hammett, the senior hitting 456 home runs 21 runs driven.
And he's going to pitch though Texas Tech.
Takes a strike there.
Go hit.
Awesome.
He's he could do both.
That's he's that kind of guy.
Well and you wonder why aren't these numbers higher.
Six homers 21 RBI.
He doesn't get a lot of pitches to hit.
You know opposing teams are going to work around Hammonds and make somebody else beat you one one.
That one smoked deep right field into the gap.
It's off the base of the wall.
Extra bases for Dax Hamm and he dives in safely.
Hammers it to right center field.
Now you can see why teams don't pitch to him and make somebody else beat you.
Because if you leave anything in the zone, he's going to hammer it gets the barrel out in front and there's a rips one into the pull side gap.
And in the second base after the double off the wall, that ball was smoked to get a runner for him over at second.
A courtesy runner.
It's going to be James Diamond the senior to run for Dax Hammett.
Wow, that was some legit pop from the lefty.
Talk about helping yourself the first two batters.
The lineup sat down in order, but Hammett gives this Harmonie Grove crowd something to cheer about here in the bottom of the first.
Brody Miller would love to give him something else to cheer about.
If he can drive in that runner diamond from second Williams and steps off.
He was cruising to the first two batters.
Obviously that's a tough call to go against.
Hammett absolutely smokes it.
Yeah, this last one over over the heart of the plate.
And that's what you can't do.
But he's been so good in this state tournament.
One at bats not going to rattle him.
He talked about back to back complete games.
And also when you do that because of the pitch count restrictions in Arkansas high school baseball, you can only throw 110 pitches.
That means you've got to work efficiently.
And sometimes that means you have to attack batters and make them put the ball in play.
And that's certainly why it's also important as a hitter to work a count against a really good pitcher.
Get that pitch count elevated and see what happens.
Firestone Brody Miller, the designated hitter, swings and lines out into center.
That's a base hit.
They're going to wave home.
Diamond.
We're going to have a play now.
They'll cut him off.
They pump the brakes at third.
That's a wise decision.
That was quite the arm out there at center from Logan Erwin.
Yeah.
Really good show of the strength of the arm from Erwin.
Caught that one off a hop in center field.
And the strong throw cut off right at the mound might have been a little off target, but Harmony Grove didn't want to take the risk of making the third out at home.
I think that's a wise call.
It also gives you the confidence in Luke McGriff, knowing that he can come in right here and do a job off batting from that right side.
With runners at the corners and two gone, both teams have put two runners aboard in the first inning a curve balls, a strike to begin.
Oh, and one, I like the idea of starting with a breaking ball.
You've given up back to back base hits.
Now they're looking fastball.
Start with the off speed and now you can work from behind.
Williamson comes set.
The golf waits.
Another curveball that once popped up down the right field line.
Foul ground.
Long run for the first baseman.
But not going to be able to make the catch is Colton Roll.
That would be a lot to ask as a tough play.
That's a long way to run.
Also with your back to the baseball would have been a phenomenal effort if he'd been able to make the play.
Couldn't get back there.
New life for the Cardinal hitter oh two to Luke golf all of this been with two outs.
Dax Hamm doubled.
Brody Miller singled there at the corner.
Smith golf chokes up Williamson trying to shut the door in the home half.
The oh two curveball just nearly hit him.
Comes up and in and James Diamond the runner over at third.
I think we're seeing the rarity in baseball.
The double oven mitts for the runner at third.
How about that?
You're right.
He's got two of them on two oven mitts, one on his left and his right hand.
That is very rare to see, but to get something out of the oven.
One, two.
And that time just below thought that might have hit him again or came into close to hitting him.
So pinch runner by day, a pizza shuffler by night, and you see the Harmony Grove dog out there shaking the hat.
Now on the way in the dugout, having a good time.
Two, two pitch curveballs upstairs.
They put their hat back on to the Cardinals, and then whenever he gets ready to pitch again, they'll take their hats off and they'll start shaking them again.
Yeah.
Williamson didn't, thought he might have caught the corner there.
The breaking ball dives out of the zone and now it's all full.
Three balls, two strikes.
Runner from first on the move.
That one is chopped to the shortstop.
Ace down.
Nice glove.
Throw to first and the inning is over.
Cameron Adams in for defense only makes the play.
And it ends the inning scoreless after one from majestic.
The first.

These are a great championship.
Stick well to the top of the second we go down.
Escaping trouble in the bottom of the first.
Harmony Grove did the same in the top of the first castle.
It'll bring in six, seven and eight for the Panthers Nate Castle, Colton Rowe, and then Cade White.
Brayden Irwin will bat if anybody reaches against the South Pole.
Dax Hammett.
First pitch to Castle.
Man had it's tough.
Strike one.
The breaking ball is working for Hammett's, and he has got these Ashdown hitters way out in front.
And they just can't slow down.
That is some legit stuff from Hammett.
Curve ball goes back to the wall.
Maybe more like a serve that time dips below the knees.
A nice take from Castle to even the count.
Castle the starting second baseman for Ashdown.
One one's a swing and a miss, and he's down in the count.
One and two.
I think what I like most about Hammond is he weighs zero time.
A lot of times you'll see pitchers kind of wander around for ten, 12, 14 seconds.
He gets the ball back from his backstop and he's ready to go to work.
Very efficient.
The one two struck him out looking.
What a pitch.
The hammer on the curveball.
Nasty bender.
Right on the black on the outside portion.
And there is nothing that Castle could do but look at it.
And he said Myers.
He walks back to the dugout, his victim number three for him.
It.
Yeah.
So it brings in the seven hole hitter, Colton Rowe, now playing first baseman.
He fouls the first pitch fastball strike straight back to the the padding back there.
You can just tell by the timing there he might have been sitting breaking ball.
And all of a sudden the heater comes on hitting the good portion of the plate.
And he just kind of offers at it and tips it away for him at the lefty.
It gets there quick.
He sits around 90, 91, 92 on that fastball.
I mean, he's definitely gets it there fast, but it's deceptive too.
It gets there.
It's got that late explosion.
And that's what the high level colleges are looking like looking for.
And that's why you're seeing a player like Hammett go play in the big 12 for Texas Tech.
Swing and a miss there.
Now to Colton Rowe.
He laughed a battle from behind.
Oh and two.
And that's what Coach Phillips talked about.
He said we have got to get out on two counts and one two counts.
So we're in a bad place.
Oh two to row, fastball, swing and a miss.
Blew it past him for out number two early.
Early in this contest you've been relying on the breaking ball.
But he was just going straight heat and challenging Rowe.
And the senior first baseman couldn't catch up with it.
I don't know if you saw Rowe's reaction as he's walking by to his teammate.
He kind of shrugged and said, got good luck.
Two gone now for Kade White.
The D.H.
first pitch fastball strike man.
He gets better with time too.
Yeah he's throwing barbs right now to these Ashtown hitters and they haven't been able to solve the puzzle.
The only chink in the armor so far for Hammond has been two free passes issued.
Now it's chopped to first, but a nice job to scoop it up.
Henry Chancellor plays the short hop and he steps on the back three unassisted, three up, three down for Ashdown in the second.
Harmony Grove to bat.
When we come back.

We'd like to make you a smarter human being here on the state championship broadcast.
So we're going to ask you today who holds the Arkansas high school state record for the most RBIs in a single baseball game?
Something tells me it's player that played for one of these two teams, but you are potentially correct.
Nice.
You could have said that about anything I said correctly.
Good.
Yes, there are so 270 other teams that play baseball in this state that it could have been from why I learned something else to.
We are learning today, Bobby.
Hey, I may not be a great broadcaster, but I want to make you 1% smarter today.
Well, you do both, that's for sure.
Wyatt Borden first pitch swung a chop to the left side.
Nice backhand from Adams.
Throw to first is on the money.
That's a really strong throw all the way across the diamond.
To get the runner.
One pitch, one out.
So Wyatt Borden grounds out.
That's tough to a shortstop that isn't bat right.
He's only in defensively.
That's a lot more pressure because you better make sure you make the plays.
And he made that look easy.
Yeah there's a really strong throw with the backhand and quick delivery.
And that's a pitcher's best friend shortstop who can pick it.
First pitch to Hughes hit to short again Adams scoops throws to first and quickly.
Two are gone.
But I mentioned a pitcher's best friend is a shortstop who can pick it.
Let's put that on repeat.
Two pitches.
Oh, that sounded like a broken record.
Now, Bobby, Harmony Grove and their offense is looking like a broken record with first pitch swinging grounders to the shortstop.
Maybe try to pick on somebody else, right?
Well, certainly that's what Easton Phifer is going to try to do.
Fifer batting from that left side.
The freshman doesn't swing and he takes a strike.
And he doesn't grounded to short either.
It's the definition of insanity.
Just doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.
Gotta take a pitch every now and then.
That's right.
I want a high looping curve ball catches the top of the zone.
But really impressed with Williamson so far for so much talk about Hammett coming into this championship game.
Williamson's not to be outdone.
Yeah he said don't forget about me I can pitch.
202 misses outside on the bender.
Just got a tear in the britches.
That's a real player.
Absolutely.
He's been sliding a time or two.
One, two.
That one gets away from him.
Also the starting quarterback for the football team.
So he's an athlete.
And it's tough to take a hit.
He was in a long time to get this sign from Logan Johnson.
Now he's ready two two to Phifer just below the knees.
And how about this AB from Easton five for the freshman.
Really good at bat just to continue to grind things out.
And this is what you want to see too from a leadoff hitter.
The first two batters of the inning first pitch swinging grind down at bat.
Try to work that pitch count.
Three two pitch and he got him.
Swing and a miss.
Williamson walks A123 inning of his own through two.
We're still scoreless.

Well, we hope that you were a smarter person than I am, because who holds the record for the Arkansas high school state record for most RB eyes in a single game.
The answer Nathan Carter, who played at he was right.
Harmony Grove in 2008, drove in 11 runs in the same game.
Man, that is insane.
Well, that's a that's a legit production from Nathan Carter.
I think Harmony go would love something similar today.
Nathan Carter had two grand slams in that game as well, and it rack up some RBIs in a hurry.
He do that in no doubt.
That's a good way to pad the stats a little bit.
I'm sure that's the game.
He quite well remembers.
Carter's in the record book three times in fact, for Harmony Grove.
How about that?
Well, back to baseball.
Top of the third.
I guess it's still baseball, but back to action.
Nine hole hitter Braden Irwin will lead things off.
And then the top of the lineup due up next.
Caden White and Riley Williamson.
Taylor Mitchell bats.
And if he reaches in another inning and another curveball from him, it that's in there for a strike.
These two teams are going to have to figure out what's working on the mound as far as their offense is concerned, because Hammett and Williamson have settled in and are dealing.
We've got ourself an old school pitchers duel for two.
Yeah, both teams have done the same thing.
Both pitchers.
Williamson gets a one, two, three inning in the second, as does Hammett.
Both pitchers gave up two baserunners in the first.
Walked out of the jam.
There's a foul tip into the catcher's mitt for strike two.
If you're Harmony Grove, if you're looking for a feel good moments, at least you're trying to feel better about your opponent.
They picked up two base hits.
Ashdown still looking for their first base runner.
The knock.
And it's not coming.
They're not going to come.
Couldn't catch up to the heater Hammett another strikeout.
And that's the first out of the inning.
Five punch outs now and he's only recorded what's seven out six out seven out.
So right now I was told there would not be math.
But it doesn't matter.
Hammond is shove it in his own is dealing.
No question.
Caden white top of the lineup.
He's all for one today.
Takes the first pitch curveball just a little bit low.
Didn't miss by much.
White went down on three consecutive breaking balls in that opening at bat.
And that time he's going to take 110 fastballs, waved at and missed to even the count.
I tell you, with Hammett, the way he mixes up his pitches, the sequencing, the repertoire, but then he hits his spots to the hole.
Combo stuff.
What's tough because of what you said last year, he's hitting his spots with all of those pitches.
It doesn't matter what he's throwing, it's finding the zone rattling around the zone, making the hitters chase.
And he has the full Arsenal working as he's trying to add to five strikeouts already.
Make it six on the backwards K a back door bender.
See you later.
And that's out number two.
He's just got it all work.
And JB it's it's been impressive to watch the first two and two thirds innings.
Ashdown is going to have to settle in because not only are they going down on strikes, they're doing it in a quick fashion.
That pitch counts.
Not getting pushed up.
Yeah.
Early in the first inning, you thought maybe they'd elevate things.
Will Hammett has found a groove.
First pitch here's fouled off by Riley Williamson pitcher on pitcher.
You know Williamson is going to try to help his case here I like the aggressive swing there.
You're not going to get a ton of pitches that stick coming to a good portion of the plate.
He's done a really good job of living on the edges.
You have to be able to try to take advantage of any kind of mistake.
Oh, we mentioned Ashdown going for Back-To-Back state championships, Walt Jones in attendance.
A few of the guys for the state championship team last year.
The one one curveball catches the upper outer portion of the zone, and I don't think Williamson likes it too much.
Ashdown was finally able to get that gorilla off their back a season ago.
They lost their first five championship game appearances and they get a win last year and now trying to go back to back, but they've got some work to do.
Williamson hits it sharply to second but that's going to end the inning.
Blaylock to first and they go and order again.
Two and a half in the books from Hot Springs still without a score.

Well, it will be nine one and two do up for Harmony Grove as well.
Maddox, Fitz, Tucker, Blaylock, and then Henry Chancellor.
Three straight freshman.
The future is obviously bright for Harmony Grove, and so much attention goes to Hammond, and rightfully so.
He's a one of the, if not the best player in the state of Arkansas.
But you don't get to a state championship because a one player, especially in a sport like baseball with so much youth, go ahead and remember the Harmony Grove Cardinals are going to be a a threat for the next couple of years.
Yeah, I'd say so.
Considering out of their nine starters, seven are freshmen.
You heard me.
Correct.
Seven for ninth graders, seven or starting.
The only two that aren't is the senior Dax Hammond and junior Luke McCall.
There's a line drive to right field.
Could be trouble.
It's a dive and a miss into the right field corner.
It's gonna be a triple for Fitz.
He'll leg it out a leadoff triple, and he's fired up.
You love the effort from Irwin out right field.
But as soon as that ball gets past him and all the way to the wall, you're thinking at least three, if not more.
And a great effort.
If he would have made this play, this would have been on Sportscenter later today.
But he couldn't get there and start the merry go round and on the horse in the headfirst slide and harmony Groves got one on third Man.
Just what the doctor ordered about it for Maddox fits the freshman now.
Tucker Blaylock, another freshman, gets a chance to drive in the game's first run here.
First pitch chop to the left side.
Third baseman.
We're going to have a play at the plate.
And they got him.
Hosed him at third.
What a play from Mitchell Johnson.
What a great heads up play by Mitchell to recognize the ball was hit sharply enough.
He had enough time to set his feet make a quality throw home and beats him with plenty of time.
I thought the tag though came a little late.
The hand might have snuck in underneath.
Doesn't matter.
The throw beats him in.
Harmony Grove has a leadoff triple erased.
Boy, that's a tough play for Harmony Grove to the one place you really didn't want to try to hit that.
Can't blame Blaylock.
The just a tough play all the way around at Ashdown.
Huge out of the inning.
Here's a pop up on the right side of the infield.
Long run for the second baseman.
Foul ground makes the catch.
Nice job from Nate Castle for out number two.
Going back to that previous play though JB I like the aggressiveness of Harmony Grove.
Make Ashdown makes a throw make the tag.
You put all the pressure on them.
But with nobody out in the inning, you think to yourself, maybe we don't waste that waste that opportunity.
You got plenty of options coming up to drive that run in including Dax Hamm it now bases or excuse me runner at first two gone in the inning now Hammett doubled their right center field his first time up.
Who takes the first pitch out of the way.
And this is one where you could tell Williams is not going to try to come into him again, at least on purpose.
You know, you kind of even though that there's a runner on first base, you don't want to leave anything over the heart of the plate.
Really make it play your game, chase your style if you will nibble on the edges.
And if he happens to draw walked and so be it.
One zero is a curveball and just misses.
Because the way that these two teams are pitching right now, the way the two teams that are playing defense 1 or 2 runs is going to be, at least you feel like it right now is going to be the difference.
And the last thing you want to do is let the biggest bat in the ballpark beat you.
Play the odds right to all that once.
Chop to the right side, Castle gloves throw high to first, but he's able to get his foot back now.
On the bat, Colton roll with a nice play.
At first he's all smiles.
We're still scoreless after three to the fourth.
We go.
Cardinals and Panthers in a deadlock.

He's going to be amongst the stars.
Aeronautical engineering.
There's been a lot of talk about what happens in the stars of science.
Right?
Carlton Mulder called me and asked me to talk to Scully about it.
We go to the fourth inning, three, 4 or 5.
Do up for Ashdown, Taylor, Mitchell, Logan, Johnson and then Logan Erwin.
And you go back to that last half inning leadoff triple raced on a play at the plate.
The play following it's going to miss here.
And your scorebook at home because we know you're following along circle that one.
That is a big play.
Instead of having at worst runner at third with one out race the runner at home don't push one across.
Curveball, swing and a miss stacks him.
Are you kidding me?
Ashton has just not been able to slow down the bats enough to tie him up.
That breaking ball, he's got the velocity.
We've talked about the low 90s fastball, but when he breaks off the binder, they just can't slow down the bat speed.
And seven strikeouts already for the lefty.
Well, and what makes him so tough is the spin rate on that curveball too.
When you mix in that fastball, you can't sit curveball because you're not gonna be able to square it up unless he hangs it, but he hasn't yet.
You're going to be hanging around with that fastball.
His fastball has got so much life to it that that's what makes it so difficult.
Curveball here.
Another strike to Logan Johnson.
It's one on one.
He's been lights out today in most of the state tournament, but their offense has been able to pick up a lot of the slack in the state term as well.
They've outscored their three opponents up to this point 18 to 5.
Kind of asked a question of when is that Cardinal offense going to wake up.
Of course, the opposing pitchers have something to do with that.
But a five nothing win over flipping seven three win over, smack over.
And then they take down a fellow number one seed and Valley Springs 6 to 2.
This Cardinal offense can get it going, but first base hit for Ashdown coming this up it was close.
Hammers it to right field.
Right fielder makes a play.
Tries to throw him out at first but fired up is Logan Johnson.
And that erases the no no going for the South ball.
That's got to feel good for these Ashdown hitters too.
They haven't been able to time up anything.
Maybe a little late on the fastball though but got the barrel on it.
Drives it in the right field.
Johnson gives the Panthers another base runner.
They'll run for him over at first.
Hayden Green, the sophomore run over at first base.
Now Logan Erwin bats.
He's all for one today.
He's the one that flew out to left field back in the first when there were two runners aboard.
Curve ball first pitch strike on the outer half.
What a nice luxury.
Two.
You give up a base hit on a fastball.
So you're like, you know what?
I'm going to go to pitch number two and make them slow the bats down.
Dax.
And it has been as advertised.
Oh one curveballs rolled off his foot foul.
And now it's going to how many counts have we had.
0212 from him today.
Yeah.
He's been ahead of almost every hitter with the exception of the two that he walked way back in the first.
But he has settled in nicely since that point.
He'll make an ash down, try to put the ball in play.
We've seen that a lot in state championship games in any type of postseason.
Whenever the pitcher can get through that first inning, settle in, they became all so tough.
Oh two is a nice take from her when thought about swinging, and that one ended up down near his feet.
That's how much breaks on that pitch that Irwin thought about swinging at.
They appeal it.
They're going to say Irwin did not offer.
But you're exactly right, Jamie.
That pitches has fallen off a table and it's.
You have to make that decision so early.
Do I off credit?
Do I pull back one two.
Fastball is up and in and I think the catcher knew it wasn't born.
If he hangs on to that might get the call.
But once you drop it, that's all gone.
It's exactly right.
It's hard for an A for an umpire to call a strike on one that's not handled by the backstop.
Two balls.
Two strikes to Logan Irwin.
Two two.
Curveball.
Strike the throw down to second.
It not going to be in time.
So a swipe of a bag but a backwards K for him at two are gone.
Done a nice job by Hayden Green to swipe it back.
It's a good job to use the speed to get in the scoring position, but another strike out.
This one of the looking variety.
It's smashed out.
Continues to number one.
Put pressure on the base pass, but not because a base hits that time stolen base.
So it'll be all up to Nate Castle, one of the eight strikeout victims against Dax Hamm.
It today.
Eight of the 11 outs recorded by this Harmony Grove defense have been via the strikeouts.
It's unreal.
First pitch curve ball down and in.
Castles made some nice plays defensively at second.
Boy he'd love to come through the big way here offensively.
Now.
One zero from Hammett.
Curveball strike on the bottom outer portion.
Harmony Grove center fielder is playing really shallow of course 402 dead center field.
Anything over his head he could be running for a while.
Will.
Come on, keep the inside.
The Parker on the table.
That'd be coming in here.
One, one fastball popped up.
Foul out of play.
And Hammett, another one, two count standing.
Hughes, who's out in center field, knows what kind of range he has.
But it's hard as your pitch to throw sometimes.
All you'd have to do is get a barrel on it, and the velocity of the pitch does the work.
That's right.
But Hammett so putting he gets strikeout number nine and it doesn't find the bat at all.
Swing and a miss stacks him it.
Give him nine strikeouts on the day.
Pitching his best in the game that matters the most through three and a half.
We're still scoreless.
Pitcher's duel from Majestic Park.
This is a bit of an odd one.
The offender had to smuggle in an intake execution device.
First off, Brian had an eye for a good deal.
You mean, did he like ripping off unsuspecting morsels?
Sure.
Brian had a disagreement with the camera guy.
I mean, this fella.
There are no other signs of physical damage.
Which suggests that the victim seen the position willingly.

The electric cooperatives of Arkansas.
Well, we got the thumbs up to resume play in the bottom of the fourth.
Zeros across the board.
It has been an old fashioned pitchers duel.
One hit for stem.
Only three for Harmony Grove.
The first pitch to Brody Miller is skied into center.
On comes Logan Irwin Camps.
Underneath it.
One pitch, one out.
The efficiency of these two pitchers is what really jumps off to me.
It's because they've been living around the strike zone.
These hitters know I need to attack early because if I fall down in the in the count, they're going to go to that breaking ball and it's going to be even tougher for me to find a way on base.
And these hitters are trying to be aggressive.
They just haven't been able to make solid contact with the barrel.
Williamson is only throwing 32 pitches, 58 for him at first pitch to the hole.
It's going to be a tough play for the shortstop.
Adams and he will eat it wisely.
An infield single for Luke Le Golf.
It's a really good job by Adams one two range over to make that play.
But two realize hey, I've got no chance of throwing out the runner.
Just eat it.
Don't make it a risky throw and risk the possibility of an error.
Just eat it.
Live to fight another bat Wyatt Gordon.
So it brings in Wyatt Borden.
Who is?
Oh, for one, today?
Gordon grounded out to the shortstop his first time up.
The first of three Saleen County baseball teams.
First play for a championship this weekend.
It's going to pop up on the infield.
Who wants it?
Third baseman comes in.
Mitchell.
Actually the pitcher.
Williamson, who calls everybody off, makes the play suck.
All this, handle this myself.
Harmony Grove, which is just outside of Benton or maybe in Benton.
Depends on who you ask.
That's the first of the three Saleen County teams.
Of course, the Benton Panthers are going to play this finale this weekend of the baseball.
And tomorrow night, six a baseball.
Bryant is going to be here well-represented.
They play pretty good baseball and Saline County it would seem so no doubt about it.
It's been a lot of good baseball players come through, but you know, just to castle that whole area.
Yeah, really good baseball.
We've already had one trivia question answer with a player from Harmony Grove, Bryant and one of the mainstays as far as the best teams and six a list to have been the last decade or so.
They won a nine inning thriller against Conway Bryant, and indeed scored three in the seventh to force extras, and when it went to the night, they scored eight in the ninth inning.
Two balls.
No strikes to Landon Hughes here at first with two gone.
That's Luke from a golf two.
Oh from Williamson.
Paints the out of black for a strike.
Still a hitter's count to Landon Hughes.
The Cardinals center fielder takes one down in the way.
And now a three ball, one strike count and a walk would put a runner in scoring position.
So Williamson laboring just a little bit the first time he's really been put to work.
At three one's a curveball in the turf.
Bounces runners at first and second.
Now with two gone it'll bring in Easton Phifer.
Number one easy opportunity for Harmony Grove.
You take advantage of this.
You get a base hit and then a walk.
Haven't been many baserunners, but even with two outs, have to find a way to take advantage and see if you can push one across.
Five for zero for one with a strike out.
For the second time, through try first pitch swing and a miss.
So it fouled off the catcher's mitt.
So all in one.
Well, any time you make a run like this in the postseason doesn't matter.
You're youth nine seven freshman in the starting nine for Harmony Grove.
But they legit can flat out play that many youngsters in the same grade.
That means they've been playing on the same team, likely for a long time.
And with baseball being year round like most sports are these days, just because they're freshmen, they've played plenty of contests that probably don't make this feeling any less stressful, but they're still ready for battle tested, to say the least.
The future is scary.
Scary.
Good for Harmony Grove, swing and miss.
There.
Breaking ball on the outside portion.
Way out in front.
Was Phifer getting so the bat now.
Now he's behind in the count 1 or 2 and I have to protect Williamson trying to get out of trouble in the bottom of the fourth one twos away, pitch up and away.
And I know we're harping on that a little bit, but man, you think about it.
It's not like you got nine, you know, nine players in the lineup, seven sophomores.
There's a senior junior and then seven freshmen.
And that's a huge drop off in terms of age.
For the freshmen trying to come through here.
Runners go two two swing and a miss.
Applying the tag is the catcher Johnson and Williamson walks into and out of trouble.
Still nothing to it for either side.
Through for the top of the fifth.
Coming up zero zero on the board.

Well, it's been a fun day for baseball.
Some offense early, but it's been defense pretty much the rest of the way.
Yeah, hits have been hard to come by.
Hammett's with the double there, but it's been all defense and all pitching.
Ashdown and Harmony Grove trying to find the answer to the question that is both these pitching stats.
There was a leadoff triple for Harmony Grove.
Nobody out.
You're thinking you're going to get a run home.
Well, not so fast.
That was the play to end the inning.
But there was a runner thrown out at the plate.
The nine hole hitter was gunned down trying to score on the ground ball in the infield.
And that's the minute the closest chance to score for either side, but not the no.
One throw.
But all it takes is one mistake and one bad inning.
As far as locations concerned for either pitcher in this game can change in a hurry.
We've seen enough high school baseball in our time.
JB, just because you're scoreless through four innings, does it mean it's going to end that way?
First pitch to Rose popped up.
Foul ground him.
It's calling everybody off and he makes the basket catch for out number one.
Kind of an awkward swing there from row.
And it's kind of offered late.
Flip the bat at a more of an oh two approach on the first pitch of that at bat.
And this guy that's in foul territory in the pitcher.
Hammett able to range over near the netting.
And little Willie Mays style.
Him at eight.
You know he wants to win this thing.
He's going after any play that he can make a play on.
Cade white, the sophomore, will stand in now from the right side.
First pitch curve ball.
And it's another strike.
When you see strikeout pitchers, a lot of times that pitch count is going to start to run up on you.
You can't go as deep into a contest as you would like that has not been the case so far.
For him.
It is that one smokes right past glove side and that's only pitch number 60 or so for him.
So he's been able to strike out with efficiency.
But speaking of efficient, that one was a missile off the bat of Cade White.
Cade white hit that one on the button right back up the box.
Only twice today.
Really.
His hand at bench.
Square it up.
That was the second one.
He got hit sharply last inning.
By Logan Johnson.
Those are the only two hits of the game.
So one out single brings in Braden Irwin the sophomore right fielder.
Squaring to bunt gets it down on the back to hand.
It only play is the first wide turn at third.
They're going to try to get the runner heading to third the throw.
And they didn't get him.
Oh they didn't get him to throw.
Beat him.
And perhaps a break for Ashdown.
It pays off.
Runner at third to got late.
Getting to the bag was the third baseman Miguel.
But the throw is kind of lobbed over from the first baseman.
Didn't put enough mustard on that and so had to try to apply the tag late.
And a really good call right by the officiating.
Our third base umpire Austin Lederman, gets over, makes the call and makes the correct call.
And he was all over that.
The throw beats him.
But how about the slide?
Your right umpire all over right.
Cool.
Top of the lineup.
Best chance for Ashdown Caden White.
He's over two with a couple of strikeouts though.
He swings and misses to begin I mean you have to ask the question what if you're white.
What are you looking at.
What do you do in there.
Obviously ventured off and the third baseman wasn't terribly far off the bag, but he takes the risk.
But it works out for the Panthers.
And now they're 90ft away from taking a lead oh one to Caden White swing and a miss.
Oh, and two.
So Cade White's over at third.
Caden white is batting, but he's hanging on for dear life.
He's trying to avoid a three strikeout game.
You have to shorten up and you got to guarantee the breaking balls coming.
Oh two that one is a curveball.
Gets away from the catcher, but not far enough for Kade White to come home and score.
So both teams have now had one runner at third, but neither team has been able to scratch anything across just yet.
White's choking up on that bat a ton ball one two from him.
Curveball fouls it off just enough to stay alive.
Way out front, way out front.
But a good piece of hitting to do just enough to stay alive.
And and you mentioned how much he's choking up.
It's a good shot there by our crew.
Just got to shorten that swing.
Do anything you can to put it in play.
Because you've mentioned JB he's struggled to do that.
It gets hammered today.
You got to keep that fastball in the back of your mind.
212 curveball fouls off another.
How about the at bat for Caden White.
And he's just grinding away with every pitch.
It's so critical.
First time you've had a runner just 90ft away to tie this car.
Excuse me to take a lead for Ashdown.
You know how important it is.
The battle is nowhere near over.
Another one two pitch from Dax Hamm.
Fastball couldn't hold up, struck him out.
The high heater and that's him able to get out of the inning.
I like him.
It goes back to the hard stuff.
He looked like he is sitting on the breaking ball.
You la a fastball.
Couldn't check the swing and we're still scoreless.

This is one that folks are going to want to go back and watch a good old fashioned pitcher's duel between Riley Williamson and Dax Hammett, and this one has fit the billing.
And really, it's one of those games where Ashdown playing with house money a little bit, right?
They don't feel like they're playing loose.
Ran their way through the postseason on the back of Riley Williamson's pitching, as did Harmony Grove with Dax Hammett.
But the nine wanted to do up here in the bottom of the fifth.
You always have a chance to win, no matter what level you're playing.
GB if you've got a pitching staff that can keep a zero in the column, that matters the most.
These teams have it, no doubt about it.
Always got a chance.
That one's right to left field Maddox Fitz having a great state championship game two for two.
He had a triple earlier a single now.
And that's one of the few times we've seen the barrel get out in front and pull side rips one over the third baseman said the leadoff base runner for the Harmony Grove Cardinals.
Well, you love to see that you've had hits from your three, four and five hitters, each of them with one apiece and Fitz out of the nine spot.
He's two for two, doing a great job of flipping things over for the top of the lineup.
I got to be able to do a job, though, and move those runners over.
I think it's too early in this contest now.
Bottom of the fifth might see a sacrifice to get that runner in scoring position.
I think that's the right call.
Lays it down, right side.
That's gonna be a tough play.
Collision.
There's a tag.
They'll get me out there.
So the bunt is successful.
It's Tucker Blaylock with the sacrifice hit the runner in scoring position.
I think the umpires are going to get together to see if the tag was actually applied because of the force of the pitcher.
And the base runner did collide, but was a tag applied to the base runner and glove hits right there.
Surely that's going to be the call as the call attention.
But it's a nice job by the holdout for the umpire for us to get together and make sure that they hey, we both saw the same thing and they confirm it, but it's a sacrifice either way.
The idea is always to get it right.
You want to make sure it gets right, especially at this stage of the game.
So the sacrifice works for Blaylock.
He does a job, and both Henry Chancellor and Dax Hammond, you get a chance to drive in a run here.
Remember, those guys were in the black shirts.
They are doing the Lord's work.
It's the stuff that nobody wants to do.
Nobody in the park likes what they do, but they're doing a great job.
And of course, we couldn't play with them.
No, we couldn't just recess.
That's right.
I've done a great job.
Let me.
Chancellor.
Oh, for two today he's grounded out and he's popped up to the second baseman in foul grounds.
Out.
How about a two for him?
Right.
A senior playing with a bunch of young guys.
And what a leader he's been.
Well, what a luxury for all those freshmen that we've talked about.
To have a leader like Hamlet's who's going to go play at a high level in college to be able to learn, see what he does on a daily basis, to to prepare himself to be that kind of player.
Yeah.
And works both ways.
Could not agree more.
Harmony Grove would love it to end in victorious fashion.
Ashdown obviously trying to keep that from happening scoreless in the bottom of the fifth.
A dandy three, a state championship.
There's a ground ball back to the mainland to throw behind the runner at Shaggy.
Oh my.
They got him.
What a great job by Williamson.
To field his position he stabs the bouncer ball right back up the middle.
Recognizes the base runner.
He's ventured off just a little too far in the delivers a strike back to the second base.
Bag tags applied and they gunned down the lead runner.
Wow.
Wandered off just a little bit too far.
He thought that one was going to get past the mound.
Didn't.
Two are gone now for Dax Hammond.
We've had a couple of base running outs.
Ashdown playing fearless out there.
Second runner now in scoring position.
That Harmony Groves had a raced as this missile is sitting in the right field line.
But foul Dax Hamm.
It.
He's going for a two run bomb.
But he was way out front.
This is kind of one of those spots where if you're Williamson you don't you certainly don't want to walk here but you don't want to come in either.
I thought that the last time he was up, down two zero in the count, he still attacked him.
It got him to roll over on a ground ball.
But this is a big spot here with two outs in the fifth.
Oh, one's a curveball.
Fouled away.
And now he's ahead in the count out with two.
So Williamson a fearless guy himself.
He's coming right at him.
It has two outs in the bottom of the fifth a couple of wouldn't say baserunning miscues but maybe some baserunning issues questionable decisions but also great defensive execution to erase them.
Oh two curveball.
That one's lined to left field, left fielders over camps underneath it, and Kane White makes the catch to end the inning.
Harmony Grove had their chances, but nothing doing.
In the fifth to the sixth we go still zero zero.

Well, can you believe it?
Still without a score in the top of the.
We knew we were going to get good pitching, Bobby, but I didn't expect to be this good.
Yeah.
You see, a lot of times, you know, a walk here, pass ball there may allow a team to scratch or run across, but nothing but goose eggs.
Base runners have been hard to come by.
And these two pitchers, Riley Williamson and Dax Hammett, have not disappointed.
This capacity crowd inside Majestic Park and Hot Springs coach Jimmy Phillips on your screen, taking over after last year's head coach Jordan O'Bannon winning the first ever state title for Ashdown.
Coach Phillips and his team is laying it all out there, giving him a chance against the favorite Harmony Grove.
Top of the sixth.
Dax Hammett only 68 pitches, so he's nowhere close to his 110 max senior Robbie Williams.
It'll be two three and four two up against the South.
Paul in the top of the sixth.
Riley Williamson, Tanner Mitchell and then Logan Johnson.
And the first pitch is a curve ball in the air for called strike.
I've said that a handful of times today.
Yeah I think you can count on one hand the number of Ashdown hitters who've been able to work ahead in the count.
Hammond has been so effective on pitch number one on the bat, and when you do that, when you work from a head, the count as a pitcher, every pitch in your arsenal is on display.
It's it's a part of your your options.
And that keeps the hitters guessing.
One was a fastball that was drilled to left field, but he hits it right to the left fielder, Easton Phifer.
And that's the first out of the inning.
We're starting to see better swings, though for Marshalltown.
They're starting to tie him up the fastball maybe, and pick up the breaking ball out of his hand a little bit better.
Doesn't mean it's resulted in more base hits, but you're seeing Ashdown starting to have more quality at bats.
And that's, of course, is going to pay off as we get later into this contest.
Not that we can get a lot later than we are sure.
Taylor Mitchell batting now with the bases empty and one going, first pitch, another curveball and another strike soon as I say, they're starting to pick up a little more.
You saw a little hitch in the swing and couldn't offer.
Well, I could tell you right now, you could tell he loves going early with that curveball.
He hits early with that, and the fastball is back pocket.
I mean, it's just so tough for any hitter.
You can see the instruction being distributed from the coaching staff a of hey, stay back, gotta stay back on that breaking ball.
That's easier said than done when you're not in the box.
188 to 91 comes at you right.
The next pitch.
It's easy to say and it's easy to coach it.
Allegedly.
Yeah.
It's hard to execute against a guy like Dax Hamm.
But I can promise you people a lot smarter than me have always said the hardest thing to do in sports is hit around ball with around bat.
I would agree with you my friend, man, a lot of people try to block all conference defensive ends.
That's hard to.
It's a different kind of hard right?
Choose your hard right.
No balls.
Two strikes.
Curveball popped up.
Foul ground off with the mat.
Here comes Hammett and he makes another catch in foul ground.
What a play from Dax Hammett.
He knew he had to make that play himself as catcher.
Borden couldn't locate it fast enough, so Hammett springs off the mound and comes all the way over to the warning track and makes another play.
Take another look at this, Bobby.
Number 28.
Just a great job of locate the catcher gives way and able to throw on the brakes right before he collides with the netting.
Two you can't tell me that, Hammett, this left handed starting pitcher who's destined to go do big things in college is not laying it all out there to try to win a state championship.
There's no doubt about that.
He is up ten strikeouts, only two walks.
That was back in the first.
He is rocking and rolling.
Logan Johnson the cleanup hitter is one for one today with a walk.
He's the only hitter in the lineup that has not been retired today.
And that's saying something because he has been really lights out.
One and zero to Logan Johnson for ball even a slider and there for a strike I mean you look at Hammett obviously has a double off the Rightfield wall in the box.
And what he's done on the mound, the only thing that you can say that he's going to be able to improve on the next level is that mustache Hahahahahahahaha always gone with the changeups in their first strike.
One and two.
Some some good lip salad there.
Oh, fluff I love it I love it.
Yeah it definitely has a good stache.
Stache game is strong from a man Dax Hammett one two fouled away by Logan Johnson.
Troy Mitchell just relayed that he's thrown 80 pitches now 60 have been in the strike zone.
Something tells me that's pretty good.
Sources confirm.
Well, it's only good if you've done that.
And you have ten strikeouts and only two hits.
That's right.
Yeah.
Sometimes throwing strikes is a bad thing, because that means you're leaving pitches in the zone and they're hammering it.
But Hammett has been really effective so far today.
Yeah.
If you've thrown 80 pitches, 60 strikes and you give it up ten hits and eight home runs, it not so good.
But that has not been the case.
Hammett again, there's a reason he's going to play at the high power four level.
He's got a chance legitimately to make an impact the moment he steps on campus.
Yeah, I mean, you throw 90 in left handed, you're going to get a chance.
But when you throw 90 and left handed and as good as he is, you're going to get a great chance.
It's been so impressive what these Ashdown hitters have been able to do.
A few of them the one two just missed.
I think Hammett wanted strikeout number 11.
He did not miss by much.
Yeah, most of his infielders thought he had that strikeout as well as they were walking towards the dugout.
But they don't get the call.
And now this is where the adversity comes in.
How do you handle it?
Take those emotions, put them to the side and come back and finish the At-Bat.
Here's another look.
Just a little off, but it won't matter.
Rung him up the backwards K one pitch later and it's 11 K's for Dax, Hammett and the Cardinals still scoreless there looking for the first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Well, a fun group of fans hanging out all around the ballpark.
Get the good view.
Hanging out boy, and the people that are here.
If you're not here.
Hope you're tuning in.
Glad you're tuning in.
But man, what a game this has been.
It has been a really good, you know, a lot of times you think, oh, at the offense is going to take over in a championship game.
We saw that in the softball game prior to this.
14 runs scored by Tuckerman.
But this game though has been lights out because of the pitching staffs.
I don't know that I've seen very often a game like this, a pitcher into a true pitcher's duel like this in a state championship game.
It's been fun to watch.
Brody Miller, leadoff hitter, is one for two today with a single, and he's flown out to center field.
If Harmony Groves able to score run in this inning and they're three outs away from another state title.
Oh one curveball chopped to third.
Mitchell up with it on the first, A53 put out.
And that's the first out of the sixth.
Could really impressed with this Ashdown defense.
They've made the tough plays look routine.
They've made the routine plays look really easy.
And that's just going to make a job of a pitcher so much easier on the mound.
No question.
We've had clean baseball all the way around and they just jinxed it.
But the golf brings in Luke Mill golf now the junior also one for two today.
The only quote unquote miscues maybe those baserunning mistakes.
It's just unfortunate sequences.
Yeah.
Questionable decisions met by a really good defense.
And that erases baserunners Jack.
Right.
That was a runner cut down to the plate by Ashdown.
Harmony Grove had a runner at third.
Nobody out couldn't push him across.
Got thrown out at home one zero was fouled away.
And then a couple innings later they had a runner at second with one out groundball back to the pitcher they threw behind him and got him.
And you may be thinking there is a base runner.
There's no way that he's going to go try to get me back at second base.
He's going to take the automatic out at first when he venture off too much, and a perfect throw is made back to the bag and gets them.
But now a base hit again for how many Groves are starting to score at Boy Gibson just a little bit.
Can he continue to pitch around the damage?
A two out day for Luke Goff, a single through the sixth hole and one out base runner for Wyatt Borden, the freshman.
So now here's where you got in the lineup.
Six straight freshman will come to the plate.
First will be Wyatt Borden.
He's over two today.
Pickoff move to first.
Back in ahead of the tag is Luke from the golf.
And we talked about Hammett's leadership too.
You can't forget about McAuliffe.
The junior also a leader for this team.
We mentioned about Ashdown potentially moving runners over a sacrifice.
Is this Harmony Grove trying to do the same thing here?
Of course, there's one out.
So you don't have quite as big of a luxury.
Do you want to give up an ounce?
Put a runner in scoring position with two down in the inning, at least on the first offering Harmony Grove not ready to get to concede the out.
That's right.
Usually if they're going to bunt, you'll see him squaring at the first pitch, not given him that one line drive.
Base hit left field.
It pays off first and second, one out.
A single for the freshman Wyatt Borden.
Gordon says, I got your butt right here, Bobby.
They smoked this one through the hole on the left side.
Runners on first and second.
Well, that's a great piece of hitting.
Another courtesy runner over at first base for Wyatt Borden, the catcher.
And now Landon Hughes will get a chance to drive in the game's first run.
First trip to the mound.
We've seen for Ashdown to try to calm things down for their pitcher.
He's been really good.
Pitch count still under 60.
I don't think there's any thought of going to the bullpen here.
If you're Ashdown, you just hope your workhorse can find a way to limit the damage.
Do you think you're absolutely right?
My friend Bradley Davis will come on to run over at first for Borden.
First and second one out.
Bottom of the sixth.
Still zero zero.
One out in the bottom of the sixth.
Number 22 three.
A state championship on the line.
Back to action, Landon Hughes.
Oh, for one today with a walk down corner.
Infielders playing even with the bag is preparing themselves for any potential bunt.
I think you kind of keep that in the back of your mind just in case, because if you're playing far enough back, you could have a bunt single in play two, and after not showing their third baseman for home to Grove, takes another step back and you want to know to Landon Hughes.
Curveball fooled him in there for a strike.
I like the confidence to be behind in the count in a high leverage situation and trust the curveball enough to come back into the zone and on the inner portion, too, because a lot of times that gets away and you can hit a batter and bases are juiced.
But Williamson, he's thrown a couple of two straight complete games for a reason.
Curveball strike two again catches the top of the zone, so he's locating the breaking ball.
And now he can go anywhere with his arsenal.
And Landon Hughes trying to be the hero in the bottom of the sixth.
Going to have to protect the plate Riley Williamson.
Trying to retire a tough out one two curveball popped up fouled down the right field line slicing and it will land out of play.
So we'll do it again with a one ball two strike count.
It's easier said than done, especially from the broadcast booth.
We've got to find a way to put the ball in play here.
Try to move those runners over.
Keep the pressure on this Ashdow One of their best chances of the game to score one two.
That one misses up.
He kind of floated the curveball that time.
Didn't get that snap on the top of it.
You don't want to hang on here.
Freshman hitter like Landon Hughes can make you pay.
Williamson taking a long look in before he gets the side.
There's the two two fastball.
That one's lined in the right center field.
Long run for the center fielder.
He makes the catch.
Wow Logan Irwin with arguably the catch of the year for Ashdown.
It's the second out.
They're going to see it.
The runner left early from second I don't think we've gotten a confirmation yet.
Either way that's a huge out in center field.
They haven't.
They're going to appeal the call at second base.
The umpires are trying to communicate with each other.
But what a play by Irwin.
Not only does he take away extra base hits or erases a couple runs, he's still trying to get the appeal at second base.
You're going to say that's the runner did it in fact.
Tag up in time and take a look at this, play a full extension and goes down to the turf and saves a run.
Here's a look to see if the runner left early.
Obviously can't tell, but I don't think he really did from that angle.
Looked pretty clean.
Really.
No advantage of leaving early there either, right?
Not to be able to get up and throwing him out fast enough.
Now though, the pressure is not done.
The runners on the corners.
Two outs for Williamson out of this jam.
Tough tough situation.
Easton Phifer the freshman old for two today with a couple of strikeouts.
Got a chance.
It's going to be a pinch hitter for pinch hit for it looks like.
So it will be cash Potter another freshman coming in to hit for Easton.
Phifer.
Potter first at bat of the game trying to come up the hero.
The first pitch is a curveball that dips below the knees.
Number 20 as Potter, let's go back.
Tough spot to be in to pinch hit in a game like this.
Are you kidding me?
Pressure is privileged.
Staib one zero.
Chop left side.
It's a base hit to left field on pinch.
Hit single for cash, Potter.
And he delivers.
He was the right guy for the right situation.
It wasn't the hardest hit ball you're ever going to see.
But put it perfectly right past the third baseman and Harmony Grove breaks the scoreless tie.
Wow, are you kidding me?
A freshman pinch hits and the biggest hit of his life.
He comes through in a big way.
Chops that one over to the left side, squirts it past that third baseman.
And the damage, though still not done for Harmony Grove runners at first and second since he's already had a pretty big day and you step into the box, Pfeiffer comes back in to run for cash.
Potter over at first, but you're right.
Maddux fits another freshman.
It's two for two today.
He tripled and he singled to get a chance to make it more than a one run game.
Swings and chops it.
Foul.
But man pressure.
Two outs.
Bottom of the sixth inning.
And a scoreless tie in the state championship game.
And you go to a pinch hitter freshman.
And he delivers.
It's unbelieve.
That's what sports is all about.
That's right.
Unbelievable.
Always the one that you least expect that steps up and makes a big play.
It's a beautiful thing about it, no question.
Maddux fits oh one in the turf blocked nicely by Logan Johnson.
You know as a kid too is a player like Potter.
You know he's trained about moments like that in the backyard playing.
He gets his moment comes through.
He'll remember that for the rest of his life.
Obviously the game's not over yet, but regardless of the outcome, he's going to remember that.
One on one to Maddux, fits has not been retired today.
Swings and drives out to deep left field.
Playable though Caden White corrals it and it ends the inning.
But our game's first run has come across on an RBI single for the freshman cash Potter Ashdown down to their final three outs of the season.
But this is a bit of an odd one.
The offender had to smuggle in an antique execution device for a start.
Brian had an eye for a good deal.
You mean, did he like ripping off unsuspecting morsels?
Sure.
Brian had a disagreement with the camera guy.
I mean, this fella.
There are no other signs of physical damage.
Which suggests that the victim seemed the position willingly.
Sunday evening at 530 on Arkansas TV for over 70 years, Farm Bureau Insurance has offered coverage for automobiles, homes, farms and lives across Arkansas.

More at AFB, become.
One to nothing in the top of the seventh Dax Ham.
It has pitch to Jim Riley.
Williamson has also but Dax Hammond a chance to go the complete game winner with three outs remaining and a one nothing lead.
What a game this has been.
JB Brazil alongside Bobby Swofford.
They're all fun, they're all enjoyable.
But man, there's been something special about this one.
It really has been.
It starts with pitching.
Both of these pitchers have deserved to pick up a victory, deserves an MVP consideration in this championship game.
But Hammond's team in just a little bit better but can't finish it.
We've seen some crazy things happen in the seventh inning of the title game.
Hammett's three outs away from putting his name in that record, but Logan Erwin will be the first hitter to get a crack at.
He swings and misses for strike one.
Erwin Oh for two today.
Flew out to left back in the first and he struck out in the fourth.
A one from Hammett.
Curveball.
Same pitch, same result.
Oh, and two again.
He just continues to work for him ahead in the count.
And now he's got down in the palm of his hand.
Oh two foul!
Someone didn't forget the helmets.
Never forget your helmet should be on your head at all times.
He's got a hot mike down on the field, so we're getting a great commentary.
Me, Bobby and some fan.
Yeah.
They did not forget the helmets.
I'm going to say her name is Penelope, but.
You may be right.
Oh, and two in the top of the seventh.
Logan Erwin trying to protect just off the plate.
It's a good call.
That's not been a strike today.
And a nice take from Erwin.
Yeah, it's a tough take, though.
Two from Erwin.
He's got command of the strike zone.
Able to lay off a pitch that close when you're already behind in the count.
Pam Hammond has thrown straight curveballs.
This at bat goes back to it.
Fouled away.
Just does get a tip there, but it was way out in front of that breaking ball and just the end of the bat, able to keep it alive.
A guy like him, you know you got southpaws and guys that play the power four level.
They lean on their fastball a ton.
He's got a great fastball, but he is a curveball first kind of guy and it's worked out for him nicely.
One two fastball got him swing and a miss.
Take that breaking ball.
The heat right at the knees and another punch out.
Make it a dozen for him.
It just lulled him to sleep.
And then the chatter on the outer portion can't catch up.
Ashdown has really struggled with that breaking ball, but as soon as they foul off a couple, Hammett realizes, okay, they're slowing down.
The bad enough they're not ready for the hard stuff and he just blows it by one.
Gone in the top of the seventh, Castle chops to third.
McAuliffe charges gloves, throws, and Harmony Grove is in.
Out, away.
Hammett's comes into the zone and he's looking for the complete game shutout.
But more importantly, a ring is on the line.
What's standing between the Cardinals and their second championship?
Golden Road Colton Rowe He's got some fans in attendance.
They've got a sign that says Row the Boat.
He's hoping to roll it one more time.
The Cardinal faithful have come to their feet.
Will row has struggled to catch up with the hard stuff today.
First pitch is a curveball swing and a miss and it's own one.
You can tell there he was thinking fastball, big swing.
He's trying to tie it up with one swing of the bat, not getting cheated here, trying to play loose.
That was the mantra for Ashdown.
Oh one swing and a miss again.
And the Cardinals are a strike away from their second ever state title.
Back to back breaking balls.
You either elevate the fastball, you come right back to it.
Hammett can feel it from the windup row, trying to protect the deep breath.
Hammond.
Oh, Tootie got him.
Swing and a miss.
Him and the Cardinals are state champs yet again.
Breaking ball, breaking ball down in the zone.
And then you elevate the fastball and blow it by.
And what a performance.
One of the best pitching performances in a championship game that we have seen in a long time.
It's an unlucky number.
Unless you're Dax Hamm.
It's 13 strikeouts in the state championship game.
Man, oh man, I think it's going to be obvious who our player of the game is.
Dax Hammett.
The senior goes out on a high note.
It only took one run.
One of the best games we've seen here in the state championships.
Man oh man Dax Hammett the winner.
And Harmony Grove their second state title in school history.
We will step aside, have a trophy presentation and the celebration.
We come back.

Welcome back to Majestic Park and the trophy presentation.
Well-deserved for the Harmony Grove Cardinals.
Dax Hammett hoisting the trophy.
What a game it was, Bobby.
It's really all about Dax Hammett.
I mean, these two pitching stars were elite.
And Hammett's and Williamson deserved a win.
But Hammett was able to just control the Ashtown bats.
Not really put himself in any jam except for the first with the two walks, but from that point, 13 strikeouts and is certainly MVP worthy.
And that's why he's holding the MVP trophy.
No doubt about it.
I think everybody in the whole facility knew that Dak Sam was going to be the player of the game, the MVP in the state title game, the one that matters the most.
A one nothing win.
He was late effort outside of his pitching.
It was scoring for the pop ups and foul ground, laying it all on the line.
And then that hit right there to seal the deal for Harmony Grove.
Cash, Potter, the freshman, the only run of the game.
And then the celebration for Harmony Grove.
The dream season finishes with a victory in the Spa City Hot Springs, Arkansas.
You can get your championship gear and celebrate with Harmony Grove as well.
It's available.
