All right.
Welcome in to Hot Springs and Arkansas TV sports.
It has been a great opening day of the high school state championships here at Bank Oak Arena.
Back to back early titles for the boys and the girls.
And we just watched another great title get claimed here was when Pittman got over on Sloan Hendrix.
It was a heck of a intensely play game defense kind of rule the day, and we've got a good one coming up for you here.
The two way boys as well.
No doubt.
This is a, Barton team.
That, of course, has been in the news here recently.
After their semifinal game against England, Barton missing five of their players in this game but not key players.
And then with Mount Vernon and Nola this team 34 and five this season you win 34 games.
You're good.
There's no doubt about it.
And Barton is an awfully good team as well 33 and five on the season.
We've got a great matchup for you coming up.
Don't go anywhere.
We will talk a lot more about it in a moment on Arkansas TV sports.
This is the two way boys state championship presented by Centennial Bank.
This broadcast is underwritten in part by.

You know, I think sports are really big to a lot of people, and because it's an important part of our fabric and our community.
And one good thing about what I've seen is it's high quality production.
You know, you think of a small communities all over Arkansas.
It's a big deal that they can turn on the TV or DVR or whatever and know they're going to get a quality product.
And so I think it just expands the, the focus of what PBS is doing.
You know, Arkansas PBS is doing a great job, and I think it's part of education.

The old truck back to the Centennial Bank state Basketball Championships.
Two way boys basketball.
Here are nightcap of the four games, Mount Vernon, Nola, the Warhawks 34 and five, 12 and two a conference under head coach Jim Walker.
How did they get here?
Well, they beat Johnson County, West Side, 7139.
Izard County 6848, and a narrow victory over Sloan Hendrix, 62 to 59.
And now they get these Burton Bears at 33 and five, their player to watch West.
They got a couple of really good ones here.
And Wyatt Sanders is a double double weight and a half an 18 points and ten rebounds on the season.
And he is one of their key cogs six foot 170.
Pretty impressive rebounding numbers for a guy that size.
And in the semifinal game against Sloan Hendrix he had 33 points.
Pretty big time game in the semifinals to get your team for the finals.
And let's talk about our keys to the game here.
And again, these are two teams that know each other a little bit about Vernon and Nola able to knock off Barton back on February 28th in a close game 6360.
Gotta love rematches.
Gotta protect the basketball and cross the boards here tonight against this party that we know is very active all over the floor.
All right, let's flip over to the Bears West and walk through it here.
They beat Mount Brook 7149.
Woodlawn 7949.
Cruising right.
Then they get to England, 5251.
And we all know what happened there.
And again, a lot's been talked about what happened after that game.
But bottom line is that's a really good England team 29 and seven.
They were 15 and one in conference two.
They won three out of four against that bunch to get here to their first ever state championship.
And there's the man Christian Williams the six two senior 18.7 a game.
He's a Brinkley transfer three time all stater.
He shoots over 50% from the floor keys of the game for them.
Can they get him sped up.
Can they turn up.
That did force turnovers tonight.
We will see what happens.
Barton only allows 42 points a game.
That's what you need to know about their defense.
They're going to get after you.
But when they played the first time Mount Vernon in all 63 points.
So they were able to score and able to take care of the ball against this team.
They've got great length.
Barton does.
And Julian Greene, 66 senior, is in their starting lineup over ten points eight rebounds a game Jordan Humphrey at 59A senior six foot puts Aryan Wilson three assists a couple steals per game Anderson Smith and we mentioned Williams on the other side Boston Corin 13 points a game for him.
He also dishes off four assists.
He wears number one.
Number five Noah Watson at 14 points a game.
He gets buckets off.
Told Wyatt Lloyd six foot sophomore nine points.
We mentioned Sanders and Jaren Lewis three points three rebounds and it will be Barton basketball to open play here with Greene has it on the wing.
They're going to work it around the perimeter against the zone.
Defense out of the gate from Mount Vernon.
And they're going to make Barton shoot from outside.
Look at him pack it in.
And these defense holding them at bay.
Pull up jumper though.
Good for Jordan Humphrey.
And the five nine senior opens the scoring in this two way Boise State title game.
30s in go.
He only averages nine points a game, but looked like he was ready to shoot on that first possession into the corner.
Baseline drive.
We talked about our key to the game and there he is Wyatt Sanders thank you very much making us look pretty smart.
The long flowing locks with the headband.
Nice spin.
Move on the baseline.
Good looking touch baseline drive on the other side for Barton.
Getting right to the rack.
And big boy basketball with Cherry and Wilson muscling his way inside for the score to put his team back on top by two Barton for Drivers Championship ever here.
Yep good trap there.
West got to get a jump ball.
It's the first final since 2009 for the Warhawks.
And again the bears looking for their first ever state title.
And they think they've got the team to do it.
Or a little bit about a minute in here.
Just over a minute in Barton.
Up by two 4 to 2.
Once more.
Just an acre here courtside at Benkovic Arena.
Looking forward to this one.
Two teams that have had a ton of success.
And you get that I mean you get occasional upset winner right?
I mean you think about a little Rock central West in the six eight maybe a lot of folks did not expect it to be here in the title game, but looking forward to that matchup with Bryant coming up in the nightcap on Saturday.
There's a miss by the Warhawks rebounded by the bears.
And they're going to work on the other end.
There goes Christian Williams kicks to the corner.
Three on the way for Wilson.
No sir.
And a big rebound by the six five senior Lewis after three consecutive makes we've had back to back misses.
Austin Currin in the high post.
Sanders going to work in the lane.
Jump stop kick out and boy that intense Man-To-Man defense from Barton getting after him Vernon Nola trying to work against it.
There's a feed inside Sanders up off the glass a good patient possession that time west by the Warhawks and they find their big dog inside again and Sanders going right to work, shields the defender off of it and able to get the shot off.
Just can't get over the fact he's six feet and rebound on the basketball like he has this year.
There's a three point bomb by Humphrey who's getting going early on here today for Barton.
That puts them back in front 7 to 4 averages just nine.
But he's already got five.
Sanders at the free throw line.
Swings and kicks to the baseline.
Back out and they'll reset for a near steal there by Williams.
He hasn't got involved offensively.
He's trying to get the ball defensively.
Sanders flips one up at the rim.
Nice ball movement.
They couldn't get it to go.
And now Barton wants to run.
And a hammer by Anderson Smith with the left hand of the senior punishing the rim with that one.
And that extends the lead to five.
He has five 9 to 4.
Had to fight off his teammate for that ball.
Yeah I thought they run into each other some tough spacing.
Nice scoop shot but no finish for Noah Watson.
And here go to the bears a little too quick.
That time stolen back by Correa.
He wants to penetrate.
He's going to scoop it up.
That is no good.
Got to finish at the rim.
Sanders there.
Luckily though.
And he sticks it back up and in to make it 9 to 6.
They have missed three straight right at the rim until he got that rebound to put it back in Sanders.
Here's a lot of ills like penicillin.
The guy can fix just about anything.
Very impressive.
And that gets him within three baseline drive hanging in the air.
Tough shot.
Good defense by Mount Vernon and Nola without fouling by the Warhawks.
And the ball gets tipped out to the baseline.
Stick here with the bears 432 to go in the first quarter.
And there's two AA boys state championship game.
Nice inbound play pump fake shot up and one Christian Williams.
There he is.
We're waiting for him to get involved.
And he does in a big way to extend the lead to five and to go to the free throw line I don't know what happens.
I don't know how algorithms work West.
I don't know how most things work.
You know that about me.
I'm on my timeline today on Twitter and a and something pops up of him jumping and taking the ball between his legs and dunking it.
I don't know where it came from.
I don't know who posted it, but I was like, I can't wait to see this kid play in person.
He is a good looking athlete.
Two sport star.
What do you think he plays in football?
I don't know, maybe receiver and defensive backs.
Is he a two way guy?
I mean, pretty long, pretty quick.
I think he could probably do just about anything you need him to do, but I haven't seen his arm.
I don't know, maybe play quarterback, too.
There's a corner shot that may have been partially blocked.
Lewis.
His shot comes up way short and Barton has him doubled up and trying to add to his six point lead.
There's a jumper.
Oh my goodness Christian Williams inside Christian Williams outside.
And the bears are in control.
Four minutes left and we're going to take the media timeout here.
It's 15 to 6.
Barton blitzing Mount Vernon Nola in the early going.
You're watching the Centennial Bank state basketball championships on Arkansas TV sports.
So today was the first annual harvest for Hope event.
There's so much going on in agriculture right now.
So we talked about what can we do to have an immediate impact for farmers.
So we said, let's put a concert together and let's have it for, to raise awareness of a topic that not a lot of farmers want to talk about.
So many people across the state support Arkansas agriculture, and we need to because we don't just feed our families, we feed the state, we feed the United States, and we feed the world right here in Arkansas.

This is unanimous.
Drew Barker trying to get his Mount Vernon Nola Warhawks settled down.
It's A60 run by Barton.
They take their largest lead of the game 15 to 6.
You know Chris Williams over on that Barton sideline is very excited.
Great start for him in this team.
Six of eight from the floor two of three from the three point line.
Made their only free throw 75%.
Start the game.
He'll take that.
Yeah that's pretty impressive.
There's no doubt about it.
Is Mount Vernon on the ball as we get back to live action here after the media timeout drive and kick and that Man-To-Man defense for Barton causing problems.
But their offense has been clicking at a high rate.
There's a step back three for Wilson.
Long rebound and a good job by Watson.
Excuse me.
Good rebound and stick back for Noah Watson.
And he took a risk there at West.
Because if he doesn't get to that basketball dunk on the other end for Barton.
But a good job sticking to it following his shot for the score.
They needed that badly to get it to 15 to 8.
Look at that zone.
Look at that.
Almost five guys in the paint.
Back outside to Williams.
They're keep an eye on him.
He'll rise up and shoot.
And that is short.
Sanders couldn't come up with the rebound initially but does tip it to himself.
And we will go back the other way for the Warhawks there within seven getting down hill.
And there's a travel by Boston court trying to get rid of it.
Got off balance and couldn't do it.
And so to go back to the bucket the bears seven point margin with just over three minutes to play in this first quarter ten Barton pressure right there.
The defense got him sped up a little bit out of control.
Yeah.
You talk about quarterbacks in the pocket sometimes West seeing goes.
And I think they probably make you uncomfortable even when there isn't a defender in the vicinity.
They get going so fast it's so hard to deal with in the corner Anderson Smith back to Jordan Humphrey or getting that zone or just happy to sit back there and watch Barton work just inside the three point line.
Williams rising up.
The long two is good.
He is off to a fine start.
Eight for him now in the first period 17 to 8 on the other end shot up no good but a foul will go against the bears.
And that's Wyatt Lloyd on the drive.
Just a sophomore, six feet, 165 pounds, averaging nine a game that took that aggressive to the basket on the bench, drew a little contact.
Goes to the free throw line.
Try to cut into this nine point deficit.
Fouls on the senior green and that free throw.
No good for Lloyd.
Trying to get the block and reached across his arm.
There.
That's the quintessential getting your hand not with your hand.
The cookie jar.
Second free throws good 17 to 9.
And Barton looking to the sideline for the call.
Posting outside great.
He just had that foul a moment ago.
Draws a double-team crosscourt.
Catch it shoot Williams that's no good.
And a rebound for Noah Watson I was shocked he missed I know me too exactly.
Yeah he didn't look like he had any intentions of missing any of the rest of the night.
There's a feed inside poked away and a steal into the hands of Terry Wilson.
Transition.
It's stolen back.
Good hustle by Wyatt Sanders and the Warhawks down hill.
Leaving it for Lloyd back outside.
Three on the way.
That is short again.
Maybe some nerves for Jevon Lewis but a tough shooting day so far.
Halts it out of bounds.
And it'll stay at this end for the Warhawks.
With 134 on the clock in the first quarter and 32 seconds on the shot clock can be kind of deceptive shooting in here because the walls are so far back.
Kind of short on both of those.
Maybe the first one was partially blocked, but that one was short all the way.
Get it into the back court to Watson and now he'll bring it across and reset.
And bears a man to man throughout.
That's a drive into the paint for Lloyd Cook outside.
Drive in for Cochran trying to feed it into Sanders.
And too many active hands in there for the bears.
Great hustle there by Wilson.
They're going to get a run out to Williams and he'll hammer it down and in oh my goodness he's into double figures with 1019 to 9 with 105 left in the quarter.
And the bears fans are on their feet.
He's outscoring Mount Vernon the know all by himself as a near pick of the pocket.
But a drive inside and Sanders has it blocked.
Green recovered nicely and then a near steal in the back court.
And here comes Williams after all that into the paint alley oop.
And running into the side of the backboard is Anderson Smith Williams pass a little off target I guess he doesn't get to play quarterback.
He let Anderson Smith into the corner of the backboard I've never had that happen but it didn't look very comfortable.
Luckily he didn't get hurt.
And they're back up and nobody's the worse for where it's 19 to 9 though.
Barton very much in control despite a missed opportunity in transition.
That time I was about to get my chair because if he if he found a way to finish that one, that would have absolutely incredible Sanders outside this time.
He's been doing his work in the paint.
There's a pump fake and drive by Watson got the ball pinned on his hip, nearly stolen.
Steps through two defenders.
Finger roll.
No good.
Cleared away by Williams.
He can rebound two.
They get it up quickly to Anderson Smith and he'll wait on his teammates to settle in.
I would always wait until Williams came back which is a good move.
Victory and Wilson will get it to him.
Christian Williams, six two senior between the circles with eight seconds left.
He's going to take this final.
Some guessing dribble to the wing.
Nope.
Going to pitch it to the corner.
Three on the way.
Good decision.
Three for Wilson.
He's a 25% three point shooter.
But that was pure 22 to 9 after one a bear blitzing in the first quarter.
And control here in this two Boise State title.
This is the Centennial Bank state championships on Arkansas TV sports and.

Well, trivia time for the boys two A game.
What is the record for the most rebounds for one player in the game?
Rebounds one game.
Well, take a guess that even though you would never guess the player.
But how many rebounds is a record for one game?
20?
Nope.
Not even close.
Well, I think I know what the record is for steals.
I just saw it in the last game.
The MVP in the last game for Quitman had nine steals that victory.
Unbelievable.
Inside out Barton to start the second quarter.
And they get the rattle and roll.
It's good for the newly inserted country.
And Davis six foot senior just off the bench drills a three pointer I guess he was over there biding his time and never could figure out how he can stay loose on the bench, but I spent a lot of time on it.
But you just watch it shot after shot go in.
He's got confidence watching his teammates shoot them 25 to 9.
Now his team is very much in control of this one.
There's an inbound.
Sanders can't get it to go following his own shot checking back in.
Check him out.
Crafty dude who plays way bigger than six feet West.
He's impressive.
Yeah, I had no idea.
It was just six feet tall.
He looks he plays like he's six, four, six, five.
I bet he's got a pretty good vertical.
Well he's actually listed here at six two.
So I saw a six foot when I was set.
The numbers from one source.
So we'll go with six two.
That probably makes more sense.
It's still impressive.
There's a miss finally by Barton and cleared away by Wyatt Lloyd.
There's a shot on the other end.
No good tipped out, but Barton comes away with it.
Here is George Humphrey leading the break up to Davis.
Inside they go.
Shut up.
A good Barton's is way too efficient offensively right now and they are making it look easy.
Too fast too I mean they're just getting the ball down the court so quickly and getting shots off before they can even set up that zone.
That's exactly right.
Yeah.
The Warhawks can't even get settled in great.
Behind the back pass and run for Sanders.
What a brilliant pass.
I believe that was corn that found him gorgeous finish there.
Two for Sanders.
And they needed that in the worst way with 640 to go it's 27 to 13.
And now you see Sanders all the way to ten points already giving his chip away chip boy.
Here's a look at the replay.
Great pass behind the back pass by Boston.
Caught for assist a game that's worth about two assists.
Double it up.
And the three point play not converted.
And green clears it away for Barton.
They lead by 14.
They're going right back to it.
Williams shot yes I tell you what I think Sanders came down right on top of that pops.
And that just shows you the strength of Christian Williams.
Played right through it and still able to score.
He's got a dozen the other way.
Layup no again got to finish those.
Great take there by no Watson just could not finish it at the rim.
Well you just saw it one inch the court.
Hard tough finish.
Other end of the court.
They blew one and wide open.
Didn't get touched 605 to go.
It's a 16 point lead for the Barton Bears.
Pull up jumper from 16.
Knuckleball by Jordan Humphrey.
No but he draws the foul.
He'll get a couple of free throws here.
Mount Vernon Nola wanted to walk coach still talking to him.
Not happy with some of the calls here tonight.
The three before the end of the first quarter.
Coach was watching a movie screen at the top.
That's why Christian Williams was able to drive in the his man got defender screen away.
Couldn't get there.
Humphrey a 50% free throw shooter on the year.
But he makes the first.
He's a senior.
He.
Second free throw over the righty also good 30 to 13 now 31 to 13.
Under six to go in the first half.
Mount Vernon Nola has got two jobs.
Tip away here in the first half and hit the reset button at the break.
Big trouble right now.
There's a drive and kick and there's a turnover and an unforced error.
They've got him sped up and they're having all sorts of problems.
And they are not speeding up enough defensively to handle this part.
Bear offense.
Mount Vernon Nola hasn't hit a three yet.
They're oh for four Barton is four for seven.
Harden has gotten off to a very hot shooting night.
Three pointer on the other end Wilson is good again 3413 five of 83. line.
It's the blitzing by the bears.
Another turnover poked away at the other end but a recovery.
Nice job by Stanton for the score to get it within 30 for 15.
Sanders need some help there.
No doubt.
Williams is getting all kinds of help.
I don't know if he needs it.
Here's the ball post away.
Good hustle.
They're good hands by Watson.
Back over to Williams.
Sizing it up.
Floats the pass over to Humphrey.
He'll pull for three.
Got it.
Not knuckleball in the eye.
Drilled it 37 to 15.
And Barton, make it look easy.
Watch this happening.
If they get out of these guys, it looks like they got inside.
They get outside.
They got defense I mean, it's impressive.
And they're not just running the gun I mean they're running through an offense.
They're just very efficient at getting great looks every time.
Well they run the court really well.
And when they get in transition they finish tonight.
They're running this zone offense to perfection.
Four of seven from the three point line.
That would make it five of eight.
Now after that last play that's absolutely phenomenal.
They're shooting over 70% from the floor.
And they made their lone free throw.
You think about it Mount Vernon and Nola's missed some easy shots around the basket.
They missed.
They missed two free throws.
They're doing the little over four from the three point line.
It's just a tale of two teams right now.
You got one that's really hot and the other one struggling.
Well we are not quite halfway through this second quarter.
And Barton is five of six from the floor in this quarter.
They are three for three from three.
And they are two of two at the free throw line.
Hard to beat a team like that.
Better defense under defense.
Yeah.
You can't give up 74% for much of anyone.
I'm sure it's pick their pick your poison.
Like I mentioned earlier, they're packing that zone in, daring them to shoot from the outside.
But I'm sure the stats show they're not a great oh Barton on the year 27% three point shooting team.
Well that's why they're back in the paint daring them to shoot.
Somebody learn to shoot.
Yeah.
Just in the right time.
And a near turnover foreign throws it I mean it's just a constant pressure too.
There's no time to relax.
Play against teams like this is no fun.
Watson dribbles left side kick out drive downhill and a kick to the wing.
Nice take and there's a good finish.
Ford got all the way in and he finishes off the glass.
And they need more of that.
That gets him within 20.
And that never feels good when you're cutting into a lead.
And it's still greater than the number of points you have.
There's a miss at the rim that said Humphrey missed it.
And then a foul against the Bears at Corning.
Watson both scored double figures, averaged double figures.
He's got to get some help from saying he can't.
I mean heck he can get another 33 tonight.
It's not going to be enough.
Yeah.
So he's got to get his teammates to step up and help out.
That was a good start.
Austin Cochran to the right wing picks up his dribble.
Three pointer on the way for Watson.
Got a stop at a three.
You've had a few more times.
And maybe you got a game here.
You can drive inside right away.
Back up off the glass.
No offensive rebound by green.
Lost the handle and Sanders coming out of there with it.
He's making plays.
So on the other end alley oop no good.
Tempted a catch and shoot for Wyatt Loyd.
But now Barton in transition.
Green up off the glass of a big four point swing in favor of Barton.
And the lead back to 19.
The bears relentless man to man defense.
And they're going to call a block there on Wilson stepping inside and drawing the foul.
327 to go to 19 point margin.
Bears in control here in a two way state championship game.

All right.
Hello.
Earlier, I ask you who has the record for the most rebounds in the game.
It's Jack Thomas or Thompson from grab it 1973 35 and close Dennis Rodman couldn't even do that by 20.
Just seems pretty ridiculous now.
He get every minutes.
A lot of him.
Talk to him 39 to 20 here.
There aren't too many rebounds to get for Barton.
They're making everything right now.
And the bears lead by 19.
See if the Warhawks can find some answers.
They're going to try a three pointer.
That'll help.
Oh Watson warming up a little bit.
14 points a game this year for him.
He's got eight now in this championship game.
That cuts the lead to 16.
They're surveying that zone inside to green.
Stepping through two.
Easy.
Nice.
The green is just a load to handle in there.
Six six senior football player.
Guess.
What they prove it.
The Boston born.
Where did everybody go.
Lost him in the loss.
That was impressive.
He's got four now.
Oh look at the steal from behind.
Was it.
Look at it again.
Got tripped first and Williams got his feet tied of him.
He was trying to get back in position.
And with 228 to go that's the fifth foul against Clarkson.
So we will have free throws here.
And this is what NBC needs.
West a chip away at this.
All right.
You down 16 two and a half to go.
Try to get it to single digits.
It'll be down around nine at the half.
That's doable Boston court shoot the free throws here.
First one is good.
For a six foot senior.
Goes one for two.
But an offensive rebound attempt by Sanders is denied by Christian Williams.
222 to go.
The lead is 15 for the bears.
Crossover drive leans in.
Kick out to the wing Anderson Smith gives it up to Williams now.
Had a look in the corner.
Didn't want it.
Pinch it up.
Top reset here.
He'll be back.
Drive inside.
Great.
No look, they're going to call a hold before he made the pass.
Would have been a layup.
Yeah.
It was 157 left.
It's just a second on the Warhawks in this quarter.
So baseline inbound for Williams.
He hits the catch.
Goes up with it too easy.
That's a great line there by Terry Wilson.
And Williams in perfect position.
And he gets the score.
And he's got 14 left.
Drive inside.
Wild shot up.
That's not the answer for four.
And take it away.
And Williams wants to run in the lane.
Floater up.
No.
Got his own rebound back outside.
And now the bears turned away.
Turnovers down good from a turning away.
Now he's going to take it downhill.
All the way in.
Layup no rebound.
Green yes.
Stick back yes.
That's not fair.
That's the size six five.
Tallest player on the court by far.
Got the rebound.
And didn't even jump.
He just kind of flipped it up there.
Green is impressive looking there.
So I've got him at six six this this listen at six seven.
So he figure out he's he's definitely the biggest on the floor that we can agree to.
Nice feed up the court Wilson.
Bigger roll.
Yes.
And they are blowing this thing wide open West 4726.
Under a minute to go.
And Mount Vernon was in big big trouble.
Barton only averages 66 points a game.
Three from the corner.
That's great Watson trying to keep minute.
Watch him with 11.
This team's going to have to be a whole lot better.
They've switched into a man to man.
Look here.
They try to trap out front and hold for one.
But they can run the clock all the way down.
Bears with ten on the shot clock inside.
Shot at the rim.
No Breeland there to get it.
I think actually, it's his own miss.
He did.
That was a heck of an effort.
And then a near steal.
Good hustle there by Wilson.
He tipped out 4.6 left for the Warhawks.
They're down 20 at the basket and will trigger it.
Gets it into Watson.
Got to go quickly.
Three seconds two seconds at the buzzer.
No it's a good look for Watson but he couldn't get it to go at the half Barton leads it by 20.
You're watching the Centennial Bank state basketball championships on Arkansas PBS sports.
Since 1937 the electric cooperatives of Arkansas have been providing power to homes, farms and businesses across our state to cooperatives or member owned and worked together to serve Arkansans.
The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas proudly support high school students and athletics in Arkansas, and hope you enjoy watching the state championship games on Arkansas TV, sports.
Better connected together.
The electric cooperatives of Arkansas.
It is halftime at Bank arena.
But don't go anywhere because this is Arkansas TV and this is where we tell Arkansas stories.
Plus, in a few minutes, Christina munoz will introduce you to the Arkansas TV student All-Stars.
But first we go to the inspirational story of high school student Dallas Cathy.
Recently, Dallas got an unexpected opportunity and is using his voice to inspire young people across the state.
It's just a game.
The atmosphere, the sounds I like to hear, the cracks, the bat pop of the glove and the crowd cheer and special me and baseball, you know?
I mean, he reminds me a lot of myself when I was a teenager in high school, just head over heels for the game of baseball, for him to be able to come on our broadcast at Division one level and not only keep up but be good at it.
It's super impressive.
It was honestly shocking.
I mean, you just don't let a 16 year old kid, you know, hang out in your press box, you know?
Dallas did a terrific job taking the weight off of my shoulders.
And then I could bounce off of for for 2 to 3 hours and just enjoy calling a ball game with.
Yeah, you just so happened to be visually impaired as Jack Cline gets going with a swinging strikeout fastball upstairs.
And what a great way to open for Jack Cline.
And what a great way to open indeed top ten in the OVC in strikeouts.
And he adds another one to his season.
And as I said a million times, I would love to see another home run.
So let's see if Martinez can do that.
Some of the struggles that I have is people are saying blind.
How so?
When I interviewed Dallas and I found out for the first time that he wanted to be a broadcaster, I went home and told my husband and he said the same thing.
How is that going to happen?
And I said, Paul, I've been here eight years.
And the one thing I've learned is if they are determined to do something, they will find a way.
Dallas or any other child with any other handicap.
That's not who they are.
He is Dallas, who happens to be blind.
That shouldn't define him.
And that's how we felt.
And he was.
It wasn't going to define him.
It wasn't going to stop him.
Come or even take this thing.
So you can say he intended.
We did not learn he was blind until he was about three, three and a half months old.
I just said, okay, this is it.
This is what we're going to do.
We're going to dig and he's going to be raised like any other kid on earth.
I've known about the game of baseball since I was probably 2 or 3, but my brother hit a ball from our garage to our shop and had started liking baseball.
And, you know, it opened my eyes to baseball.
My goal ever since I first played is to hit one over the fence.
Still ain't done it yet.
The park is big.
I've got to figure out how to hit a ball first before I can hit one over the fans.
Miracle League started ten years ago.
Dallas was seven.
We always worried about physical activity and this is an opportunity that he would love.
A good day I like to call myself the hardest hitter.
I'm probably not, but I will say that I'm probably the most competitive one there.
It just kind of grew and it became a challenge.
And Dallas has always been one to meet and exceed any challenge it has ever been given.
Welcome inside the Don Thompson press box, I'm Max Cole train, joined by Dallas Caffey, now a 10th grader at Arkansas School for the blind.
And it's your first time here at Gary Hogan Field.
How's it been so far?
Well, I'm loving it here, Max, and I can't wait to sit here and say some bangers.
Yeah, might be a tough day for it.
Some winds blowing in from center.
But as part of the Arkansas School for the Deaf and Blind, all of our students get opportunities to have real world experiences.
For Dallas, that meant being able to pursue his dream of becoming a sports announcer.
You know, initially, there's a question of how it will work and how prepared you would be, I suppose.
But I realized pretty quickly into that first meeting the day before the game that, here's the real deal, and we were going to be just fine, and I was gone.
What a shot blocker.
No.
And he definitely keeps a hitting streak going with that ball.
After meeting him in my office for the first time, I knew within 10s he's going to be great.
He study stats.
He study stats all day, every day of so many baseball teams.
He had, you know, sheets of paper, braille, print it out with lineups, everybody's stats, where they're from.
And stepping up to the dish is number 27.
Ryan Jack from Long Beach, California past 330.
And when he was talking, I literally had people call him and text me going, are you sure that's Dallas?
That doesn't sound like Dallas.
He just turned into like, this professional broadcaster, his ability to listen to the count, the number of outs, knowing where we are in the lineup, knowing their pitcher on the mound and what would be advantageous for the home team.
He was on top of all that, to not be able to see a game, but yet call it as if you're watching it is so impressive.
You never try to bunt when you're at the plate.
No, I really don't.
But I really just swing a swing for the fences.
The man had pressure at first, but we got into the game.
We talked, we laughed, and I had one of the greatest times in my life.
I knew Dallas would break down doors, but what I didn't predict was that the kids who are disabled or blind or visually impaired, watching that game because trust me, this entire school was watching that game that night, one of the moms called and she goes, oh my gosh, you have no idea.
My son learned how to dream.
And that that was magic.
That that's what this school is all about.
You can knock those barriers down.
I was so happy for Dallas and so happy for what he can show others that probably make my heart heard more than anything in broadcasting, the most important thing is that you have an unfiltered love for the game, and that's what Dallas showed in a short time, you know, in a couple hours on the air.
I've always told myself, if there's a will, there's a way.
And so to any visually impaired or blind people that want to go out and broadcast, go chase your dreams, that's one of the best things you can ever do.
That young man will give the future no choice but to be bright for him.
The sky's the limit and he is going to be an ambassador for blind people everywhere.
And he's going to teach people that they're just like everybody else.
So many times I feel like vision cheats us.
We miss so much that he doesn't.
And I expect that we'll see him probably on the TV here relatively soon.
Are you ready?
Whenever you are ready.
Good evening, everyone, and thank you for joining.
Welcome to Clark, channel four.
I am Dallas Cathy.
This year we are celebrating 29 years.
That's it.
Great.
Thank you all so much.
As I'm pretty hard this month.
What a great story.
And Dallas has no plans of slowing down any time soon after he graduates from Arkansas School for the Deaf and Blind, he plans to pursue his passion of sports broadcasting.
We look forward to hearing you on the air soon, Dallas.
Now let's toss it over to Christina.
She's going to introduce you to some very hardworking student athletes.
Christina.
That's right.
Thanks, Steve.
Earlier in the season, we reached out to schools all over the state looking for athletes who not only excel on the court, but in the classroom, too.
Here's the Arkansas TV student all stars, class of 2026.

In class three, a meet Kenzie McCarty of the Dover High School Pirates.
She boasts a 4.2 GPA and plans to study speech pathology while staying active in her church and traveling.
Representing the Newport High School Greyhounds is Jessen Russell.
Jessen also holds a 4.2 GPA and aims to earn a business degree to transition into the real estate field.

Sammie holds a 4.1 GPA and is looking forward to playing college basketball at the next level.
Congratulations and keep up the good work.
All right Steve, it is about that time.
Yes, it is Christina.
Let's get you back out to Bank arena for the second half here on the home of the high school basketball state finals.
Arkansas TV.
State.
Back here in Bengazi arena West for Justin acreage.
The two way boys state championship, a first half dominated by the Barton Bears.
They lead 4929 to bring Mount Vernon to Noah.
Reset button to be hit.
And we were just perusing the numbers west, and it's most of the numbers of players that stood out to us after the first half.
In addition to, of course, the Barton 20 point margin that they've established for themselves.
Mount Vernon and Nola hasn't had a substitute.
All five starters played every single minute, and Barton only had one substitute.
There's a three pointer challenge but bucket for Noah Watson right over the hand of Christian Williams defense A little bit late there.
Looks it may have been Wilson that was out there on it.
But he was able to get it up and over him to cut it to 17.
That was a tough shot.
West well defended on the other end Williams trying to answer knowing there's green again trying to pay dividends does he can't score it but a dunk back goodness gracious Anderson Smith look out I mean the attacking nature of the Park Bears.
And you know how bears can be sometimes they're getting after it.
I talked to one of their radio guys at halftime and asking is this the best half for Barton?
And he said, if it wasn't, it's got to be close to it.
Someone standing next to him, the fans said, oh yes, definitely.
Sanders up and under.
No rebound attempt by Wyatt Lloyd.
No, but he's going to the free throw line.
I mean, I don't know how much better he could have been.
That first half was incredibly efficient.
Barton shot 66.7% from the floor, 66.7% behind the three point line and a perfect three for three at the free throw line.
This is a team that came in shooting 40, 27.5% from the three point line 27, and they shot 66.
You and I have talked a lot about teams that have a take a bad day to have a bad day.
They picked a great day to have a great day.
Free throws good there.
And again all I got to do if you're Malvern and only got to just chip away, you can't get low back at once.
But 17 now the margin and it forced the bears to have a mistake filled half.
Maybe there's a near turnover a good salvage there by Humphrey.
He's going to go right back inside.
Sanders denies at the rim.
Great defensive play.
Sanders did a little bit of everything for them.
There's a pull up jumper by Watson in and out.
Sanders an offensive rebound and tipped no.
Tipped away by Williams Racing to the other end.
Ducks group shot up off the glass and go to.
That is ready.
On the strength of Christian Williams showing through there.
Very impressive was that's a so strong.
He has 16 now by the way.
He's two points off of his average.
Baseline drive kick out.
Good catch and shot in the lane.
No offensive rebound.
Back up with it.
Swatted out of there.
We do have a sub now Luke McNair 511 senior.
Didn't have much fun on that one.
Yeah we were given two key substitutes but we didn't see either one of them.
But quickly.
Coach Walker goes to the bench into the corner Lloyd in the paint spinning.
Had it knocked away around by Cora.
And now he'll drive inside.
Turnaround jumper no good.
And Williams an easy flat footed rebound.
His team up by 19 behind the back dribble cross court in the process all the way.
And wild shot up.
And that's going to be an offensive foul.
And he's out of control.
And welcome to the game.
Yeah Logan McNair earned your time on the floor for the charge against out of control Christian Williams takes a big hit is built like a safety I don't want any part of that.
It took some guts for Logan McNair standing there.
He was set up.
That was brilliant.
Great play.
I wondered if McNair came in for defense and also helped because he's got a little size down low, you know, just to push around.
Some guys don't go in there, take 3 or 4 charges because I was waiting for to pull up for three and say, that's why he's in there.
There's a drive by Watson back outside pump fake.
He's crafty.
Stepped through.
Had it knocked away.
There's a reset.
That's it Logan McNair's having an impact here.
Yeah I thought you need get some quality minutes from some of your guys on the bench.
Get a brace on that rice.
Request.
But thumb looks like maybe trying to support him over there.
In Mount wild shot up.
No.
Green collects it right off the green.
Off the rim.
Rather in front of the other way.
Ball saved in by the Warhawks but tipped in the hands of Wilson.
He'll drive baseline off the glass of good.
I mean, that's going right for the Warhawks.
Everything going right for Barton Lawson in midair.
Got control of it, flipped it in and do the walk and start hoping to catch some breaks.
He's not getting any right now.
There's another steal there goes for Darian Wilson.
And he will lay it up.
And that is not good.
Hustle by no Watson get back defensively.
But they blow this thing wide open 23 point lead 441 to go.
We'll keep it here for a moment.
Mount Vernon and Nola hit a couple shots early to okay well maybe chip away get back in this make it the game.
And Barton has responded Barton has hit some key shots.
Got a good steal there.
Lays it in.
Lead is back up to 23.
Yeah.
They don't seem interested in making an interesting bar.
Does Mount Vernon Nola has been giving up 52 points a game this year.
And Barton has 57.
And we're halfway through the third quarter.
And it's just a great offensive game for Barton.
They've been brilliant.
And I would say Barton is a team that's known for defense.
It looks their defense leads to offense.
Gets them some easy buckets.
And we've seen that tonight.
But to come in and shoot like they did tonight if it holds and we get to talk to head coach Chris Williams I got to ask him about the shooting display from his team.
If he's seen anything like it.
This year was very impressive.
By the way, officials for tonight's game, Michael setting is our referee.
The umpires are Corey Ashworth and Ray Rogers.
For the good job tonight.
Haven't had a lot of whistles.
Less at first half.
Seem like it move very quickly.
See total fouls called in this game night.
Yeah like that.
Yeah.
So the athleticism shining through the shot making ability.
One of the things I've noticed so far is just day one.
But the officials have been letting them play.
They did I can tell you that Quitman Game was about as physical a game as I've ever seen.
And there's another steal.
That's not the answer.
You want to get back into it, Humphrey?
Alley oop.
And the finish by Wilson on the other side.
DAB right into one of the officials for the Quitman slum zone.
Hendricks Hendricks game.
He's that man.
Those are two physical teams.
We could have been here all night, but we were trying to let him play.
Yeah, I mean, they were, There was a lot of that.
There was a lot of, bumping and pushing and a lot of intensity offense.
And to get to see our MVP in that game.
Madeline Barnhill go with nine steals.
Just incredible.
And she took some shots there a couple times.
She looked a little upset.
Good inbound there to Sanders but he a clear path to the bucket.
Ends up traveling with it in the bears, harassing in all sorts of different ways defensively and holding on to a 25 point lead.
Williams against two defenders gets it across.
So just making every right decision.
Wilson steps through layup.
Yep.
Got it again in this area.
Looks like Christian Williams.
Looks like he can play college ball I think that's doing something I don't know if it's football.
Basketball Curry.
There's a block at the rim by green.
And he scramble for it.
And McNair is hustling to get a tie up I believe.
And.
That's that's all right 346 to go foreign is having an absolute blast in this championship game 61 to 34.

Let's take a look at our student athlete all star brought to you by Arkansas TV sports.
It is Xavier Jones the senior for Fordyce 3.9 GPA.
He's going to play college football and join the military.
Congratulations.
Xavier Jones from Fordyce.
Kind of ironic there.
He's blocking a shot and wants to defend the country.
How much respect?
Well, here in Hot Springs, it is blowout city right now.
Barton.
All over Mount Vernon and Nola and the Warhawks have not had anywhere close to enough answers to make this game interesting.
You know, we talk to coaches all the time, and they tell us you can't go back to what happened the first time we played, or even the first two times.
This is the perfect example how Mount Vernon and Nola beat Barton 6360 just a few weeks ago in the regional finals, and it's just a complete reversal tonight.
It's remarkable.
I mean, I just cannot imagine a scenario when you watch this happen, but it is amazing.
We've seen it before, even at the highest level.
I mean, teams to play competitive games, then you could fall into a 25 point blowout a couple of games later.
It's pretty crazy.
There's a wild drive inside again.
Those are not the kind of shots are going to get back into this game with.
But everything coming way too easy for the Barton Bears tonight.
Yeah.
Mount Vernon to Nola hasn't been able to finish it Barton has.
I mean you think about the tough layups tough shots they've hit in the paint.
They've been able to finish tonight 2.5 minutes to go 6334 Barton Cruisin three pointer on the way for Wilson yet three 6634.
You expect any shot that goes up to miss.
No.
Here's what I like about Barton.
They were red hot in the first half right.
Six of nine from the three point line.
They didn't come out jacking up a bunch of threes in the third quarter.
They only took one in the third quarter.
Another run out and another hammer at the other end for Anderson Smith.
Rebound by Williams.
And he's clapping to his fans.
And he knows what's coming.
It's 68 to 34 folks.
It is a 34 point margin.
And we still have two minutes to play in the third.
I tell you.
Oh there's a steal by Greene that he lost it out of bounds.
We're going to say it was tipped out by the Warhawks.
About to say I know Barton's two way the way they're playing tonight.
There aren't a lot of teams in the state, no matter what the classification is.
That would be them.
The shooting is off the charts tonight.
I mean, they've got size.
They've got guards.
Lester at 71% for the game.
They're on a 17 zero run over the last 4.5 minutes.
I mean, it's just absolutely dominant.
What Barton is doing clinic.
It is.
They picked a great day to have their best game of the year.
What a beautiful move by Greene.
Spins it around the rim and gets it to go down.
Everything falling my goodness 19.
Oh run.
Wow.
Here's another turnover.
Make it a 21 zero run.
And Williams with the hammer.
Oh goodness.
What are you gonna do.
I was saying what is Coach Blocker saying?
I don't know what you can say.
And we got a blocked out here.
It's an avalanche.
That's the fifth foul on Barton.
And that's the only solace for Mount Vernon.
Oh they're going to get free throws here for no Watson.
But it is an absolute giant snowball coming downhill.
And there's no way to get out of the way of it right now I don't West I mean we've got a lot of games.
I don't remember seeing of a game that has gotten this out of hand this early.
Well, we're about to have maybe for the first game I've done.
The sportsmanship rule come into effect in the fourth quarter.
If you're leading by 30 points when you get to the fourth quarter, it's a continuous clock.
It's 37 right now, 56 seconds left in the quarter.
Free throw.
Good.
Listen, I'll give Mount Vernon another credit.
They're still fighting like heck.
But.
This one is, It's just a matter what the final margin is going to be.
They have him doubled up right now, 7236.
Corner three is good.
I mean, every single basket is Anderson Smith.
He's a good shooter 45% from three.
And he made that one looked like again never missed the point.
There's a pass inside ball tipped away into the hands of Sanders.
Left it short Williams comes out of there with it in transition.
Alley oop.
Hammer home I mean Anderson Smith with the finish.
This is unbelievable 17 for Smith.
And it's a 7736 game.
There's another near steal save airball up and under.
Nice pass.
It turns out to be the Sanders two seconds.
One second I would expect this to go in two.
They missed the full court shot or three quarter point shot.
So after three 7738 Barton is cruising to a championship.

Great food.
And when you feel like a kid, you want to go have a purple or.
Yeah, like right now would be great.
It's about that time.
Fourth quarter underway.
Barton.
They've earned some shakes.
They are rolling to victory tonight.
There's a turnover by Mount Vernon Nola.
And it is blowout.
City is Dick Vitale would say right now let me give you some third quarter numbers Barton from the floor 13 to 15 I can't remember.
The one of the shots was the last shot at the end of the quarter.
Yes.
You're right.
He should have shot it.
You're right.
There have been 13 of 14 three pointers.
Two for three did not shoot a free throw for the game.
They're shooting 73%.
Oh it just went down a little bit.
They missed a layup Jordan Humphrey.
And now we got a run out for the Warhawks.
Green couldn't get their layup.
Watch it 77 to 40.
Now.
And Barton's they've been smart at times.
Pulling it out running a good offense in the half court.
And you can see over at the scorers table drew blockers about to send in some of his reserves.
There's a miss inside.
Back out Williams pump fake I won't give him credit.
I mean he can do pretty much whatever he wants and he has not punted shots.
How smart was that.
Back it out there on the block.
637 to go.
Yeah I'm a fan of his.
Yeah.
He's very impressive.
I don't know where he's headed, but he's something.
Got to get a running start.
Going to take it.
Baseline stops and spins inside shot up.
And good for Smith.
That ball was blocked mid air and he still got it through and scores it in double clutch.
It's a crowd.
Kick out for the Warhawks in the corner.
Foreign.
Thought about it.
Now he'll scoop it in the lane.
Up and good.
But by Goran for the layup.
Make it a rolling timeout here pretty quick.
These guys and coaches just talking to the official 7942.
They're telling Christian Williams to back it out on this run clock.
And we got a problem.
Call number one.
Most foul against Cornish.
That'll get three new Warhawks in the game for Leland Parsons five a junior.
Well we got there in West Lane Lloyd 510 junior and looks like Jimmy Wooley 511 sophomore.
I was watching Coach Blocker give his guys a big hug after they came off.
No will watch him.
One of them now he's talking with Logan McNair and looks still great year.
Yes.
Not the way we wanted it to end.
Man 34 and six is nothing to be ashamed of.
It's a whale of a season.
No.
53 to go and just killing time.
Basically Jason Williams going to run it in there and hammer at home and he went right around the defender and slammed it home.
He's got 20 now in the game.
That was quite the exclamation point 8142 now and 442 to go.
We're going to keep it here.
Heck of a way to end your career right?
Soaring through the air for a dunk when a state title.
That was remarkable.
Here's the replay.
Elevation.
And a hammer.
Brilliant.
And Nash substitutions coming in.
Gets the other couple spots going to be filled here Noah Simpson 510.
Junior in the game.
And a miss at one less.
How about zero Zion Lehr.
For the bears.
Jaylen Maggs there's a few guys that would have got a chance to get in here at the end regardless.
But again we had two suspensions for this game.
There's a near steal.
Ball's poked away and a run out to the other end.
And now a miss.
That's the kind of night it was.
You hit the dunk.
It lost the handle.
And it goes down anyway.
For Terry and Wilson that is the kind of night it's been 8342.
He has 23 points Wilson and Humphrey the only starter still in the game for Barton run out Williamson for Barton as well.
Six five freshman.
Is a embarrassment of riches.
There's a block inside but the Warhawks get it back.
Step back.
Three on the way.
And that is short and a rebound for Jordan Humphrey for Humphrey Wilson because of the short bench having to stay in there I didn't I didn't think that I was like what do I do.
He hasn't taken them out yet.
He can't get four guys up.
Somebody has got to play.
I guess I could send three guys out there, but it seems a little, little crazy.
Humphrey driving in the lane.
Pull up jumper.
No rebound for the freshman.
Up and good.
Hey welcome to spa Colorado Williams.
Good for you.
Give me a smile.
Come on be happy about it.
8542 315 to go.
Jumper on the other end.
That is an airball and a rebound for Daylan McGee.
Coach put up four fingers in the air which means run clock.
Pull it out.
Four corners out.
Wilson didn't get the memo.
He's going to work.
Step back three.
Instead he almost got it.
An offensive rebound and he'll bring it back out.
And now he may not give it back to Wilson.
You want to run the clock I will I'm ready to go home and celebrate.
He said.
I don't want to drive his back to, to Barton, but they're going to be party tonight.
Good for them.
Baseline drive shot up.
No.
Ball tipped out and tipped away.
And a run out.
Earlier.
Stops at the rim.
A block down low and bears basketball.
Not much going right there.
Parsons had a look so he couldn't get it knocked away.
And it will stay down here Barton up by 43 points.
That's why you see the clock running.
Even though the ball went out of bounds.
They're going to hold it on 30s off here.
I applaud them for running the clock out.
The game's going to finish about on time.
After all that, they got a late start because of the game before.
And it's just going to get the Barton Brown wound up.
And what a road here.
And you think about what happened last week and what a way to finish it.
What an exclamation point for them is.
So impressive Wilson inside finger roll layup.
Good.
He has 25 and the cherry on top.
8742.
This is just remarkable.
We're going to get a timeout.
Three more.
The game of the Warhawks coming in.
They could get all their guys in a rolling timeout.
Stop play for a second so that we can get these guys in.
Barton scored 27 points in the second quarter and upped it in the third quarter.
Scored 2855 points those two quarters Carter Goff, gunner person one more in.
There was this oh a rider Henry in the game.
There's a drive.
Nice step.
Good shot up and good right away.
And boy get these guys in the scoring column.
And the bears have about a 13 second differential on the shot clock in the game clock.
And we'll see if they decide to take the shot clock violation or fire one up.
I have my feelings about what might happen.
Oh my goodness.
This is the most dominant victory I've ever seen on this floor.
Impressive.
Just an impressive offensive performance.
Wilson kickout three.
No offensive rebound stick back yes two more from out Williams.
And now Mount Vernon with 10s.
Go get you a bucket.
Get your bucket get you a bucket.
You're gonna dribble it out three seconds two seconds.
And that'll do it.
No no I say this pressure good there by Ryder Hammer.
Let him celebrate stuff 8944 Barton absolutely dominant as your two champion tonight.
A 45 point victory.
All right.
We'll be back with post-game.
We'll visit with our MVP and our championship coach.
After this you're watching the Centennial Bank state basketball championships on Arkansas TV sports.
This is UAMs, an Arkansas academic medical center where research discoveries bring new hope and cures or cares delivered by doctors who also train the next generation of health professionals, where specialists deliver treatment with compassion and respect for all patients across Arkansas.
This is unanimous.
The order is let's one fly.
Following college education is the icing on the cake for Louisville.
Here's a big play by Roberts.
He'll go down the left side.
One man to beat.
He'll walk in the end zone for a touchdown.
Here's a running lane at the five.
He'll walk it.
Touchdown!
There we go.
Dani Diaz five.
A baseball championship court hit once again down the left field line.
Double and score for nothing downfield.
The wall is gone.
Three run home to.
This is the time to dig in and get the job done.
Kenzie Freeman with the big swing from the right side, she puts down another kill.
All that hard work finally paid off.
She tries to go crosscourt.
Nobody home right in the middle.
And don't go anywhere because we've got a lot in store for you here.

Friends, I say I, I just love her.
It's just incredible to watch how they have been impacted by this experience.
You know, the biggest contribution was the adoption of the Razorbacks and a whole sense of pride for this state and for this university.
What a game.
It was an exclamation point for the time.
Arkansas team.
I think it's important for Arkansas PBS to have sports, because it provides sports on a greater platform to the entire community, and it also gives people in various other communities an opportunity to see other schools and other athletes and to have a greater appreciation for not just their own community, but the sports that are available across the state of Arkansas.
There's so many lessons that sports provides, and it's one of the reasons why it's so important to for next generation of athletes coming up.

54.
Down on a performance as we've ever seen in a state championship game.
The Park Bears roll to victory tonight 89 to 44, in our nightcap.
We had a few competitive games earlier today.
This was not one of them.
And congrats to our MVP Christian Williams.
I don't think there was much doubt about that.
22 points and seven rebounds although his teammates played awfully well.
Clattering Wilson ended up in a game high 25 and get a little credit on the other side to watch with 18 points west, but just way too much Barton tonight.
And it was apparent well before the half that was going to be the case.
No I was looking to Anderson Smith.
Anderson Smith had 17 points.
He only missed one shot.
He was eight of nine from the floor.
And that was just the the story for Barton all across the starting five.
They were dominant tonight.
Here we have coach Chris Williams joining us now.
Coach congratulations.
We've seen a lot of competitive games.
We've seen some games got a little out of hand.
This was another another thing tonight I mean your team was on point.
And this is a team that you knew you guys had struggled with in the past.
And now was that the best game your team played all year at the best time?
I would say so I think so.
We have no extra motivation to.
So these guys are ready to play.
They will set up for the challenge and I'm just super proud of them.
But I guess they saved the best for last.
Man.
I'm proud of Coach.
The stats I had, you guys were shooting 27.5% from the three point line tonight.
You were eight of 11 until three late misses.
I thought that was the key because they had that zone and they were trying to compact it, keep you out of the lane, started hitting some threes and then you know Katie bar the door.
Right, right.
Have you seen your team shoot like that or have they been getting better throughout the year.
We've had some games where we shot it well, but I also had a senior guard, Jordan Humphrey, that had been out for the last 4 or 5 games.
And he came back a couple of games ago.
We saw an interview that they said they're going to back the zone in and they were going to make a shooting and there's a shooter.
So like I said, it was a little extra motivation.
Guys got in the gym this week and got some exercise up.
And I know we've got some of that.
Well I didn't I didn't foresee that.
But I'll take it, man.
Coach, how did you get your team locked in this week?
Was it any trouble at all?
I mean, again, there was so much talk around your program and, you know, again, it was an unfortunate day last week.
I mean, it's got to be so satisfying to finish it this way.
But I mean, when they locked it immediately or did you guys have to sort of talk through some things?
I think they were locked in immediately, but I also had to talk to them to, I mean, the story started to kind of take a legs of his own, and it kind of snowballed into and we definitely didn't want that to happen.
It's unfortunate it happened.
But I'm just proud that they showed some resiliency and, we blocked it up.
That's not a reflection of what my program is or what my guys are, but tonight is a reflection of what my guys are.
We show sportsmanship.
We showed it before the game.
We showed it after the game.
Now we go celebrate when we win big games.
It's our first day of finals, so we're going to celebrate it.
But, we didn't get that moment last week, but thank God we got it today.
You know I'm proud for that.
Towson Gratulations.
It's awesome.
Thank you so much.
Happy for you.
Oh what a performance.
It was amazing.
Let's bring in our MVP Kristen Williams here.
Flip that around.
Yep.
The other way yep.
Like this.
There you go.
You got it there you do.
An interview is going to play like that.
Tell you something.
Christian Williams our MVP.
Congratulations.
And again we talked about it earlier.
It was apparent pretty early on you guys were on point tonight.
Did you feel a special kind of locked in tonight because this is a team you knew a team who lost to earlier this year, which is impossible to believe after watching this tonight.
But did you feel good early on?
Yes, sir.
We felt good.
We knew if we came out and knocked down shots and and got to the rim and do what we do, we come out with the win.
You guys were hitting shots from the outside.
And the stat showed that you weren't a great three point shooting team.
What what happened tonight.
Where did that come from.
Yeah I don't know where it came from.
I guess when all the patches we put up shots, we put our hunches aside and we just work on it all the time.
So we came out here to do what we had to do.
You got to have your, cherry on top moment there before you went out of the game.
I mean, you guys did a good job.
I thought it just run a clock.
I mean, it could have been a little more aggressive, even though you're up huge.
That had to be pretty satisfying, I think, to finish it off like that.
Yes, sir.
So we were sitting over here wondering what's next for you.
Where are you headed?
I'm not sure yet, but I got a couple options.
I'm going to college, though.
Okay.
Are you a football player or a basketball player?
Basketball.
That's good.
That's my team right here.
I love doing this.
Yeah, it's what I do it for.
What?
You pretty good.
How's it feel to take part in the first championship?
Yeah, it feels good.
I'm glad I, I did good for my fans.
And this is what I came here to do it.
How hard was this week for you guys?
It was pretty hard.
We had to, block out a lot of negativity, but we got people that's on our side.
So we came out with confidence and we got the job done.
And this during the game, I mean, it was special.
I mean, the shots y'all were making, the runs that you're on, what's it like when not only you but all your teammates, everybody is on.
Everybody's knocking shots.
Just what's that feeling?
It feels good.
Everybody get a piece of it.
Everybody from the bench to our best players.
We want everybody feel good.
Everybody get their own sign so they feel good.
Well congratulations.
That is our MVP Christian Williams.
Very impressive performance.
Great job.
And what an effort there by the bears.
Yeah you're good.
Thank you.
Thank you so much.
All right.
Well that was, something to behold, my friend.
You know, I hate it for Mount Vernon, but this is something.
We'll be talking about this in five, ten years.
People.
Remember that night Martin went just crazy.
And then to consider what they've been through all week and then to perform like this.
Tip of the cap.
Let's take a peek at tomorrow.
We're gonna get started at noon.
We've got Manila and McGee.
The three girls finals.
Remember, it's 3 to 4 tomorrow, and then that will be followed up by the three a boys game.
And, we got a great day.
Basketball on tap tomorrow here at Jose Arena.
Looking forward to it.
Yeah.
The three AA girls game Manila McGee and the four eight tomorrow night.
Pulaski Academy and P Ridge.
Pulaski Academy was here last year.
Lost in the state championship heat.
Ridge has never won a state championship, so history will be made in the four eight game.
And then the 40 boys Mills history Hall for the fourth time this season.
And that may be it, right?
I mean, this may be all for Hall, but we're not sure what's going to happen.
But yes, this very well could be the last game.
Well, it's been fun tonight.
We will join you again tomorrow back here at Banco ZK arena.
Thanks for tuning in tonight for the Centennial Bank state basketball Championships on Arkansas TV sports.
Good night everybody.
