Welcome inside Bank o c k arena 11 games down, one to go.
And it is a big one.
The six AA boys state championship game between Bryant and Central.
It's been a full three days I'm Westmore, he's Bobby Swofford and he's got a smile on his face.
Not because this is the last one, but because it's a good one and because we've been entertained for the last three days.
The last two games that we've had today going into the fourth quarter, might have been considered a bit of a snoozer, but the fireworks have gone off in the final frame, even overtime in the five AA championship.
But all weekend long, we've seen Arkansas's best basketball players put on a show, and it's going to be capped off with the crown jewel of the state, the largest classification.
Boys championship tonight.
Today, Brian team that was the heavy favorites coming into the season.
And a red-hot little Rock central squad.
It all started with Earl winning a couple championships and boys and girls.
Congratulations to Quitman Barton.
Manila.
Osceola, Pulaski Academy Hall, Farmington, Parkview and just now the North Little Rock lady charging Wildcats.
They all have trophies to put up in the trophy case.
Who will take home the six eight boys title?
We'll find out.
We'll get you set for Brighton Central when we come back.
All right.
Bye.

You know, you think of the small communities all over Arkansas.
It's a big deal that they can turn on the TV or DVR or whatever and know they're going to get a quality product.
And so I think it just expands the, the focus of what PBS is doing.
You know, Arkansas PBS is doing a great job, and I think it's part of education.

We are back at Bank Oak Arena in West Voorhees, Bobby Swofford, and we're getting ready for the 76 AA boys title game.
It is Bryant and Little Rock central.
Let's take a look at Brian how they got here through the state tournament run.
Of course they got to by being the number one seed in the second round they took on Conway pulled off a mild upset.
Brian took care of their conference foe and then Fayetteville 50 to 38 to make it here to the state championship game.
Bobby, who is the player to watch for these Hornets.
Oh, you can really pick your poison with Brian, but Kamari and Bede is been filling the stat sheet all season long.
19 points seven rebounds, six assists.
The University of Central Arkansas is getting a gym and Marian beat for Brian to be successful today, few things have to happen.
The first thing play down hill, go towards the basket.
Don't settle for jump shots.
This arena can do nasty things to the outside game, only then you got to establish that secondary score and beat R.J.
young there.
There are two guys who's going to be the third tool in that toolbox.
And the last thing take control early.
You've already beaten central twice this year.
Established the lead early and make the Tigers think they can't compete.
Good shot of the crowd.
We have a great crowd here for the six eight championship.
For some they may look at Central's record and go How are they here?
Why are they here?
16 and 13.
Well, Central's put it together.
And here, look at this.
First round they take care of Bentonville 69 to 60 to move on to play Harbor, where they upset Harbor 55 to 50.
Some call it an upset.
Others will say no.
Central's a good team.
Then central beat North Little Rock 70 to 63 to advance to the championship game.
Bobby, who do we need to keep an eye on for the central time?
Talk about playing well at the right time.
You take down the number one seed from the west and the two seed from your own conference, but they have got to rely on play.
Blair, the five nine senior guard, 14 points, four rebounds, four assists.
He's going to have to be productive.
It's a balanced team for central.
But they got to have that go to weapon.
And Blair appears to be it.
Now central again I mentioned they've already lost this squad a couple times.
They've got to say hey we believe we deserve to be in this point.
They've got to have belief in the fact that they can take down the Hornets one.
Number two, they got to keep Bede out of the lane.
Cameron likes to drive.
He likes to get to the rim.
He's a big physical body.
Keep him out of the out of the paint.
And maybe you got a chance when the fourth quarter comes around.
Well central dealt with the injuries all season.
They dealt with some other things.
They put it all together.
Got all nine of their guys playing towards the end of the year at central took off.
I talked with Mike Abraham some earlier this week.
He said the coaches in the seven eight central knew how good central could be when they put it all together, and no one is surprised that they are here.
Central wins the tip and they will try to get the first points on the board.
Man to man defense for Bryant.
What can central get going towards the basket?
Can they handle this stiff defense well hook shot from Dunn falls in Jamie Dunn gets the Tigers on the board.
Nothing like a freshman scoring the first bucket of the six eight title game.
Nerves.
But nerves.
He's too young to understand.
Brian's CB they call him CB Cameron b B for three.
Back of the rim and RJ young skies for the rebound.
BA dishes it to Abrahamsen.
Bang the coaches son getting involved early.
How about a little youth first a freshman for central now a sophomore from Bryant.
Great start to this game a couple baskets early is a good look inside from riot right.
Found a cutting teammate.
Good dish.
We'll have hope going to the line tray.
Hope repositioned himself after the rotation of the defense was not there for Bryant, now a sophomore.
The youth movement in the first 55 seconds.
It's funny, Coach Abraham.
Some said after the way central went through the playoffs last year, it had a nice run.
All the coaches knew well.
Everybody's coming back except for Luke Moore.
They've got a squad now.
Look more.
Dim has become one of the best freshmen in the sun for Central Arkansas.
You see a well represented by these Tigers and the Hornets calmly puts in two.
So central takes the lead 4 to 3.
Three possessions.
Three scores.
And RJ young comes to help out.
Abrahamsen was trapped a little bit.
Rough at the top.
He'll take it.
Three RJ young with another rebound.
Can't finish.
Tigers come away with it.
Young's already got two offensive rebounds, though.
That shot didn't fall.
But the Tennessee Tech commit he's been active on the glass.
Nice little stop hot no good.
But Bede comes up with the rebound.
They may be guards.
Look at that forward pass.
Oh just short.
Young left it short.
He's young a little hustle play knocks it away.
Here comes Bede attacking B Euro.
He knows how to finish a big frame.
That's.
Let's be that quick.
West the six three senior as you mentioned the Euro with the blue bar and the easy finish beam.
Looks like a bear.
There's some bear that reminds me of him.
Let me think about it.
Oh, Cameron Hunter, that's his little brother or older brother in this case.
Well baseline drive nice floater from Trajan.
Lead and junior gets baseline a little floater.
He averages ten a game.
It's a good sign for central to see him get the shot.
Falling early.
Young may have taken a little shot to the face.
He was rubbing his nose when he walked by.
He didn't look happy about it I don't think central wants to make him mad.
Bede posting up down low, finds RJ pivot, pivot, pivot can't finish again.
Interior defense for central.
Good there to alter the shot.
Hornets get back on defense but they relax just a little bit young or yeah the other young Ryan Young flying through the air.
He'd always with his head up.
Good pass outside.
Can't convert after a fast start.
Bryant has missed their last two threes.
Now three 3rd May only be six five.
But I really like the pace of this contest up and down.
Yeah we got fastbreak opportunity Bede all the way to the basket finishes strong.
High school seniors are supposed to look like that West so strong.
Going to the rim.
Fights through the contact and able to finish.
Bobby we said same thing about Cameron Hunter about five years ago.
They looked so much alike.
Same body type, big shoulders, big frame.
And I thought it was funny when Bede was posting up.
Cam Hunter does the same thing for for a UK three point shot.
No good.
Brian doing a good job on the defensive boards.
Genetics are undefeated.
West Bede in side RJ another corner three off again.
One for five.
Now for Bryant from the three.
All the way to the basket.
That's a good offensive rebound John Dunn gets on the board.
The freshman averaging six oh on the season but already has four active on the glass.
That's one thing Bryant's got.
It just keeps him off.
Keep Dunn off.
They're going to attack the glass.
And when you see a game full of guards what would be typical guards.
They all just crash the glass.
So athletic.
Brian pass down a couple open threes.
But Beadle take it.
Got cold from the three point line.
Nice steal from Russ.
Heads up play from Russ.
The senior averages about four points to pull it out.
These teams are ready for a stoppage in play.
Tugging on the shorts out there.
He's been up and down the floor for 3 or 4 straight minutes.
At this time young will take it.
Young can't finish.
That's two.
They've missed.
Three they've missed right there at the rim.
Well we got off to a fast start.
Minutes slowed down the last few possessions.
Central has a one point lead over Brian.
We'll take a break with the media.

This is unanimous.
Tonight's crying Hornets head coach, Mike Abrahams, and trying to get his guys to settle down a little bit.
They hit their first three of the game and since then they're zero for five.
There's head coach Shelby Lewis of your Central Tigers.
Tigers are three for eight to start this game.
But they have a one point lead 8 to 7.
I'm Wes Moore.
He's Bobby Swofford.
This is A68 boys state championship game.
Hornets in their man to man defense.
Tigers trying to get something set up.
Looks like they're trying to work it inside.
They've been successful in the paint.
They have more points in the paint early part of this first quarter.
With that spin.
Oh.
Attacking the rim.
Just when you think there's some space they'll after a great spin move in the lane.
That defense for Bryant converges.
There's going to be no three points in this one.
Cade Hicks into the game for Bryant.
Tigers got a little zone going right now.
Open corner three.
High arching no good.
Brian misses another three but central tapped it out of bounds.
Bryant will get another shot at it.
Coach Shelby Lewis is over there with his hands up in the air.
Grab the ball.
Don't go one handed.
Go with two.
Bede will throw it in for Bryant.
Bryant's not afraid to let it fly from deep though.
One of seven already from the three point line.
It's almost like Central's daring them.
They'll dare.
Katie Hicks, another miss.
Hornets gone cold.
So tough in you to to get to a rhythm offensively.
We don't see many teams catch fire from deep just because of the depth perception.
The unfamiliarity with this arena.
Tigers drive in tough shot Bede with the rebound and Tigers there to steal it away.
Oh what a play by Bede.
I was about to say earlier he could play football.
He played that like a safety.
Just read the eyes.
You're exactly right.
Jump in that passing lane at the last moments.
What was a two on one opportunity for central?
Turned into a turnover.
Yeah.
Bede never stopped the ball, so should just kept going to the rim.
He played the pass and deflected it.
Bryant look at him.
They hit him again.
They are packing it inside.
They do not want Bryant to get in the paint.
Knew some of that athleticism.
We know he can finish R.J.
young can finish.
They don't want him in there.
Tigers nice drive play.
Blazers got to find a way to get going.
He's a leading scorer for the Tigers and finally got a tough runner for his first.
But that was tough Bobby baseline.
That's one of the hardest shots from about five feet.
Bryant's going to pull it out.
Take the last shot of the first quarter.
Low scoring first quarter ten seven.
Bryant now one for nine I think they hit their first I got to double check.
They double team beat one to get the ball out of his hands.
They get it to RJ young.
Back to RJ.
Nine seconds to go Katy Hicks.
Hicks looking around for B beats.
Got to go.
He'll fire it up.
Shot clock was going off.
He had to fire it up.
Bryant misses another three guys a couple of substitutions I think we're going defense for offense here.
Make sure central doesn't hit a shot with 1.8 seconds to go.
Tigers will try a three quarter court heave.
It's good if it goes hits the backboard but that is it.
Quick.
First quarter.
Bryant trails the defending champions down three.
Stick around.

Arkansas.
Arkansas.
Time to become smarter human beings.
That's the Arkansas Governor's Ball Association trivia question.
Simple.
Who holds the record for the most points scored in a season in boys basketball at Arkansas high school?
And there have been some dudes we're talking about a player or a team, a player total points in a year.
For me, Bobby Portis, Corliss Williamson, Joe Johnson, the list of NBA players Jalen Williams, Isaiah Joe Gafford, Daniel Gafford.
Did you intentionally leave out one NBA player for the Lakers?
That could be it.
I didn't leave out Malik Monk on purpose.
Oh, I was thinking about somebody else.
All right.
Bede with it.
Bryant with it.
Trying to end a little drought.
Look at that.
Look at the Central Tigers defense.
Finally get it inside RJ young up and goes.
That's good.
Patience from Bryant.
That defense started to converge though.
The ball fake got the defense in the air.
And young who struggled from the floor in that first quarter.
It's a high percentage shot to fall and a chance for the three point play.
I liked his hesitation.
You're talking about the patience of Bryant, the patience of RJ young.
He waited a little head fake.
Let him jump and then converts and he converts the free throw three point play.
Bryant ties it up at ten.
Hornets now four of 17 from the floor.
Central just a little better.
Four for 12.
We haven't seen great shooting these last two games in six a nice little spin move but better defense is young.
Takes it away.
Hornets on the run.
Nice little layup right there by me.
Just a textbook fast break.
And now Walker finishes.
It's just a great job of running the floor keeping good spacing.
So those defenders had to make a decision on which way to go.
Brant chose incorrectly Walker for the easy layup.
Bryant with the quick five oh burst to start the second quarter.
And they take the lead.
Biggest lead of the game for Bryant previously it was a one point lead.
Almost had a turnover.
But the whistle.
Have a foul on the floor.
The Rock Central's biggest lead was that three points to start the quarter.
Already six lead changes in this game.
In the game.
He's got a chance for a really good one.
Unless one of these teams goes on a very unexpected run.
Just because you just don't shoot well in this building, I think we're going to be locked in for a Barnburner Aleem driving got cut off.
Lost it for a second.
Oh.
Try a long three.
It's off.
Bryant crashing the boards and goes off them.
Was Katie Hicks coming in from the three point line.
Hicks also plays a little.
No it looks like he plays a little football.
It's Suggs and Young that play football.
Already have a state championship this year.
It's getting to be a crowded trophy case in the football facility at Bryant.
Bryant playing some good man to man defense switching.
But that time the Tigers found a gap.
Cade Hicks raises his hand.
He got the foul called on him.
But really impressed with that first step from Blair as he blows by the Bryant defense.
Couldn't finish in the lane though.
Nice job of coming over and altering the shot, but a little too much contact made by Cade Hicks.
And now Blair is going to have to earn these two.
Just got him with the body.
You're exactly right.
They switch.
And RJ young got on him and he just blew by RJ young.
And we know how quick and athletic RJ young is.
We saw a lot of that in the five eight championship game.
That first step was the so explosive from Jacob Lanier and Parkview.
That really turned to be the difference.
Blair can't convert both.
So central still trails by one.
JD Hicks will run the point for a little bit.
It'll run CB off ball.
See if they can't free him up.
He's kind of attacking that zone.
Almost a great pass.
A little behind Cade.
Tigers pick that one off.
Blair with it.
They'll reset now.
Brian up 1211 a little 500 run gave them the lead back.
Central trying to retake the lead.
It's been back and forth.
Good little hesitation.
Move there.
Can't finish.
Said that a lot already tonight.
A lot of that is having to do with the defense.
Bryant allows central to get down to the baseline.
But they converge and everything difficult.
Cade Hicks sold that one.
As said he had his left arm.
And it's just the second team foul on central.
Bryant also has two team fouls.
So these two teams are playing for the third time this season.
Bryant won the first two, both close games.
Good games.
We'll try to drive down the corner.
Look Bryant's attacking all of a sudden I think they got the message.
You know what.
The three is not falling.
So let's drive in.
Walker in the paint for two.
One thing you and I discussed in the open was that you can't settle for jump shots as a foul out North mid court.
Can't settle for jump shots.
Be aggressive early in this contest.
He gets settled in and that's going to create things open.
Looks on the outside.
Walker thought he was picking the pocket and going the other way for two more.
And the officials say he got a hand.
On a hand.
That was a foul.
For Abraham to turn his son back off of him a little bit, make it tougher to pass towards the paint.
Blair gets a screen, he'll pop a three.
Blair off the rim.
Tough battle right there inside for the rebound.
But R.J.
young had a little position.
Did a good job of blocking out.
So they say it's off central.
Will pull down the offensive rebound there.
But I've been really impressed with the way that Jamie Dunn the freshman has handled himself inside for central number 12.
Central Scott out of that zone to play little man to man.
That confused Brian for a second try.
They pulled it out.
Get their offense set up.
Feed inside to RJ young.
Got a foul on the floor.
That was good.
Cut by R.J.. Flashed in the paint.
If he catches that spins over his right shoulder he might have a layup.
But if you're Brian Fan you like the mismatch there.
As far as the size.
RJ young listed at six foot five.
Klay Blair who was up for that 459.
So an eight inch advantage.
Look you see that matchup.
That's I'm Brian I'm going down low right.
Miscommunication there he goes and talks to Walker.
Tells him what he was wanting to do.
May have said you know what play defense.
Let's go.
Let's get a stop.
T while you watch Blair.
He is in constant motion.
Oh he's good out right there.
Three point attempt is on his way.
And good.
Brandan Wright knocks down the three.
Ties this thing up.
And good.
Reposition there by Wright.
You see Blair go baseline.
So he just falls in behind gives his point guard an outlet.
And he strokes one from the left wing.
See the defense kind of collapse on Blair.
And he just kicks it out I mean it's just smart play.
Well if you got the people around you somebody is open.
He looks up and it's his teammate right in front of him.
Right.
That was the right move.
This is back to back possessions.
Now that Bryant's been able to pick up a foul on central by taking their size and just closing up down low when they get the size mismatch.
RJ with fired up.
That's off the back of the rim called loose to central corrals it.
Here comes Blair again.
Hesitation move.
He wanted to pull the trigger there on the left wing.
There were some gasps here in the crowd after that move.
One on one ball throws it up.
Travels.
It's good on ball.
He fits there from B is not creating any lanes for central.
And we are locked up at 14 and a good one.

I woke up this morning hoping you were really smart.
And Westphal, you're really smart.
You alluded to him who holds the record for the most points scored in one season?
Threes Austin Reaves.
That was my guess.
1237 points in one basketball season.
Most of them play about 35 games.
That is putting the ball in the bucket.
I feel a little smarter.
I think that's the first trivia question I've gotten all weekend.
Proud of you.
But you had some tough ones.
Some real difficult ones.
Hey, after Bryant started the first quarter, one for ten from the three point line, they've shot one in the second quarter.
I think they got a message from Coach Abrahams and they have been attacking being more patient working the ball.
Get it inside.
Let's quit shooting the three because we're not making it guys.
That's what good teams do.
That's why they're playing for a championship.
You can't shoot yourself out of a contest.
You've got to make an adjustment.
Cade Hicks drives.
He kicks.
Long three pointer.
No good.
Bryant there for the rebound RJ young puts it up.
Another offensive board for young.
Just getting down low and mixing it up.
The shot clock was winding down.
He knew he didn't have much time.
Able to finish at the rim.
Tigers cut off Blair.
Step back three.
Bam!
Able to set his feet after the fly by.
And the ball fake.
That's one player that Bryant cannot let it loose.
Klay Blair hits one just when Bryant gets a four point lead.
Tigers fired back.
There's an open three but they didn't take it.
Here's another open three.
He's not going to take it any of these.
You can take.
You can see Central's defense.
That really is daring Bryant's like go ahead.
Let one fly from deep and they will miss that one.
But RJ young again nice little cut up and under goes in.
Walker with a nice cut in flying in for the rebound.
Good job.
He uses the rim as a protector on the reverse.
Lay in for the second chance.
Points.
Player has been their offense here recently.
Blair says I'll do it again.
Almost.
Tiger fans stood up thinking that one was going to go and it rattled in and out.
Pixie's feed for second Tigers.
That was good help.
Defense came from behind.
Stole it away.
Tigers got a timeout.
Tree Hill realized that his teammate was in trouble.
They tried to do a quick post up on Blair, but as you just said West that hillside defense from Hope came over, knocked it free and able to pick up a steal.
We'll say here during this timeout Bryant jumped out to a quick start.
But central has answered make it a one point game 1817.
Your leading scorer for Bryant.
You got RJ young with five.
You got Walker with six.
Bees with four.
And Abrahamsen hit an early three.
That's his only three points of the game.
That's all that scored for Bryant so far.
That's there 18 points for central.
Blair has six.
He's got one three pointer one for five from the three point line a lean start for Dunn to hope to.
And Wright has three.
That came on a three pointer.
If you're looking at the setup inside the box score.
The one thing that really jumps out are the points in the paint 12 of the 18 points or Brian have come inside the paint.
Only two for central.
The Tigers are doing a good job.
I think defensively it's packing that lane, but they've got to do a better job of corralling the rebounds because five offensive rebounds have resulted in seven check in the second half points already, so they're taking advantage of those extra opportunities for the Hornets.
Tigers will have the ball when we get ready to play.
The Hornets still in their huddle.
Official went over and say that's enough.
Let's go.
We're ready to play.
Minute 42 to go in this first half and a very tight first half.
First time these two teams played no.
Neither team reached 60.
That was a great design play to go.
He got Dunn again.
He hit his season average.
And the freshman with another finish in the lane.
That was a tough finish.
He went up among two Bryant players.
He took it up high.
So here's central fans behind his just begging Bryant to shoot it from deep.
What's the call Bobby I couldn't see anything.
The ball deflected out of bounds.
The officials standing right in front of our vantage point.
That's going to keep it on this end of the floor.
The one thing at Bryant either RJ young camera B catch it down there.
They're going to be quickly surrounded.
You got to move quickly.
Bryant has a huge and I mean huge size advantage at the guard position.
And they're trying to take advantage of that down low.
Well that would be the 65 RJ young or the 63 Bede.
Either way they're trying to post up the smaller central guards.
But as you just said, the Tigers doing a great job of converging as soon as they make contact with the basketball.
You got about 12 seconds on the shot clock.
RJ young flashes to the middle now kicks it out.
They're going to have to take a shot here soon.
And Cade Hicks does and that's off.
Just cannot buy a three right now.
They are one for 14.
And that's why Central's just continuing to pack in that zone.
And they're going to stay in that lane and make bread.
Shoot them out of it essentially.
Oh and Bryant you want to beat the end zone get some stops and run get fast break points.
Don't let them set up their defense.
Got to speed this game up.
Hornets sticking in there.
Man to man defense.
Players pulled it out there already.
He's a threat to shoot the 310 on the shot clock.
Blair kicks it in the corner.
Blair's going to shoot it.
Blair kicks it out.
What a nice kick.
Three pointer tip no good.
Tigers flying in for the offensive rebound.
It's blocked.
Tied up.
The athleticism on this court's insane Bobby.
And it looks like it's going to be an easy second chance points.
And we've seen it on both ends of the floor.
But all of the sudden the defender comes in flying from nowhere.
This is going to be a great angle.
Easy put back right.
Nope.
Bead rises in erases your guard.
Is your shot blocker.
Central will have it and they can run out the play clock if they don't get an easy shot here or not to play.
Yeah, the play clock they run out the first half to Blair has other ideas.
Kicks it out and it rolls out of bounds.
Got the meet.
It should have just pulled that out.
Ran off about eight nine seconds then attack and get that last shot.
Now you're going to allow Bryant to get off the possibly the last shot and take the lead at the half.
If you hold the ball right there you guarantee you know what.
We're going to the half with the at least a one point lead.
Blair gets into the lane and had nowhere to go with the basketball.
Turns it over just trying to be a little too aggressive.
He's going to take this last shot.
Gets it knocked out of his hands.
Shot at the buzzer.
No good.
The Tigers will keep the lead 1918 over the Hornets.
You're watching the Centennial Bank state Championships on Arkansas PBS sports.
It is halftime at Bank arena.
But don't go anywhere because this is Arkansas TV and this is where we tell Arkansas stories.
Plus in a few minutes, Christina munoz will introduce you to the Arkansas TV student All-Stars.
But first we go to the inspirational story of high school student Dallas Cathy.
Recently, Dallas got an unexpected opportunity and is using his voice to inspire young people across the state.
It's just a game.
The atmosphere, the sounds I like to hear, the cracks, the bad pop of the glove and the crowd cheer and special me and baseball.
You know, I mean, it reminds me a lot of myself when I was a teenager in high school, just head over heels for the game of baseball, for him to be able to come on our broadcast at Division one level and not only keep up, but be good at it.
It's super impressive.
It was honestly shocking.
I mean, you just don't let a 16 year old kid, you know, hang out in your press box.
You know, Dallas did a terrific job taking the weight off of my shoulders and that I could bounce off of for for 2 to 3 hours and and just enjoy calling a ball game with.
Yeah.
You just so happened to be visually impaired as Jack Cline gets going with a swinging strikeout fastball upstairs.
And what a great way to open for Jack Cline.
What a great way to open indeed top ten in the OVC in strikeouts.
And he adds another one to his season.
And as I said a million times, I would love to see another home run.
So let's see if Martinez can do that.
Some of the struggles that I have is people are saying blind.
How so?
When I interviewed Dallas and I found out for the first time that he wanted to be a broadcaster, I went home and told my husband and he said the same thing.
How is that going to happen?
And I said, well, I've been here eight years.
And the one thing I've learned is if they are determined to do something, they will find a way.
Dallas or any other child with any other handicap.
That's not who they are.
He is Dallas, who happens to be blind.
That shouldn't define him.
And that's how we felt.
And he was it wasn't going to define him.
It wasn't going to stop him.
Oh, come on, even check this thing.
See if it's intended.
We did not learn he was blind until he was about three, three and a half months old.
I just said, okay, this is it.
This is what we're going to do.
We're going to dig, and he's going to be raised like any other kid on earth.
I've known about the game of baseball since I was probably 2 or 3, but my brother hit a ball from our garage to our shop and had started liking baseball.
And, you know, it opened my eyes to baseball.
My goal ever since I first played is to hit one over the fence.
Still ain't done it yet.
The park is big.
I've got to figure out how to hit a ball first before I can hit one over the fence.
Miracle League started ten years ago.
Dallas was seven.
We always worried about physical activity and this is an opportunity that he would love.
I like candy.
I like to call myself the hardest hitter.
I'm probably not, but I will say that I'm probably the most competitive one there.
It just kind of grew and it became a challenge.
And Dallas has always been one to meet and exceed any challenge that he's ever been given.
Welcome inside the Dom Thompson press box.
I'm Max Cole, train, joined by Dallas Caffey.
Now, this is a 10th grader at Arkansas School for the blind.
And it's your first time here at Gary Hogan Field.
How's it been so far?
Well, I'm loving it here, Max.
And I can't wait to sit here and say some bangers.
Yeah.
Might be a tough day for some winds blowing in from as part of the Arkansas School for the Deaf and Blind.
All of our students get opportunities to have real world experiences.
For Dallas, that meant being able to pursue his dream of becoming a sports announcer.
You know, initially, there's a question of how it will work and how prepared you would be, I suppose.
But I realized pretty quickly into that first meeting the day before the game that he was the real deal, and we were going to be just fine.
And I was gone.
What a shot blocker.
No.
And he definitely keeps the hitting streak going with that ball.
After meeting in the my office for the first time, I knew within 10s he's going to be great.
He studies stats.
He study stats all day every day.
Of so many baseball teams.
We had, you know, sheets of paper, braille, print it out with line ups.
Everybody stats where they're from.
And stepping up to the dish is number 27.
Ryan Jack from Long Beach, California past 330.
And when he was talking, I literally had people call him and texting me going, are you sure that's Dallas?
That doesn't sound like Dallas.
He just turned into like, this professional broadcaster, his ability to listen to the count, the number of outs, knowing where we are in the lineup, knowing their pitcher on the mound and what would be advantageous for the home team.
He was on top of all that, to not be able to see a game, but yet call it as if you're watching it is so impressive.
You never try to bunt when you're at the plate.
No, I really don't.
But I really just swing.
I swing for the fences, so I had pressure at first, but we got into the game.
We talked, we laughed, and I had one of the greatest times in my life.
I knew Dallas would break down doors, but what I didn't predict was that the kids who are disabled or blind or visually impaired watching that game because trust me, this entire school was watching that game that night, one of the moms called and she goes, oh my gosh, you have no idea.
My son learned how to dream.
And that that was magic.
That that's what this school is all about.
You can knock those barriers down.
I was so happy for Dallas.
I'm so happy for what he can show others.
That probably made my heart heard more than anything in broadcasting, the most important thing is that you have an unfiltered love for the game.
And that's what Dallas showed.
Yeah, in a short time, you know, and a couple hours on the air, I've always told myself if there's a will, there's a way.
And so to any visually impaired or blind people that want to go out and broadcast, don't chase your dreams.
That's one of the best things you can ever do.
That young man will give the future no choice but to be bright for him.
The sky's the limit and he is going to be an ambassador for blind people everywhere.
And he's going to teach people that they're just like everybody else.
So many times I feel like vision cheats us.
We miss so much that he doesn't.
And I expect that we'll see him probably on the TV here relatively soon.
Are you ready?
Whenever you are ready.
Good evening, everyone, and thank you for joining.
And welcome to Kark channel four.
I am Dallas Kathy.
This year we are celebrating 29 years.
That's it.
Great.
Thank you all so much.
Yeah, I'm pretty hard this month or so.
What a great story.
And Dallas has no plans of slowing down any time soon after he graduates from Arkansas School for the Deaf and Blind, he plans to pursue his passion of sports broadcasting.
We look forward to hearing you on the air soon.
Dallas.
Now, let's toss it over to Christina.
She's going to introduce you to some very hardworking student athletes.
Christina.
That's right.
Thanks, Steve.
Earlier in the season, we reached out to schools all over the state looking for athletes who not only excel on the court, but in the classroom, too.
Here is the Arkansas TV student all stars, class of 2026.
We start things off in one A with Maggie Tyrone of the Norfork High School Panthers.
Maggie maintains a 3.5 GPA, and when she isn't writing poetry, she plans to play college ball and major in psychology.
Representing the boys is Kiana Wingfield, a senior point guard for the Nevada Blue Jays.
Kiana holds a perfect 4.0 GPA and is headed to Hvac school after graduation.
Moving to two AA, we have Caitlin Ledbetter representing the Elkhorn High School Tigers, a 4.0 student who loves the outdoors.
Caitlin is set to pursue a career in nursing for the two a boys.
It's Xavier Jones from the Fordyce Red bugs.
Xavier carries a 3.9 GPA and is weighing his future between college football and the military.
In class three, a meet Kenzie McCarty of the Dover High School Pirates.
She boasts a 4.2 GPA and plans to study speech pathology while staying active in her church and traveling.
Representing the Newport High School Greyhounds is Jessen Russell.
Jessen also holds a 4.2 GPA and aims to earn a business degree to transition into the real estate field.
Halfway through the classifications, we find Sadie Meyer with the Highland Rebels, a 4.0 student athlete.
Sadie has already signed to play at UT Martin from Shiloh Christian.
We have Duke Bowman representing the Saints.
Duke has a 4.0 GPA and is committed to Simpson College to study finance and continue his basketball career.
Representing five A is Bailey Barton of the Beebe High School Badgers with a 4.05 GPA.
Bailey is committed to Washita Baptist University for nursing and serves as a director for local peewee basketball programs.
For the five AA boys, it's Mason Stallings from the Greenbrier High School Panthers.
An avid hunter with a 4.04 GPA.
Mason is headed to the University of Arkansas to study civil engineering.
Rounding out the girls is Kylie Johnson of the Conway Lady Wampus Cats, a 4.0 sophomore.
Kylie already has several college offers on the table, including the University of Arkansas.
And finally, for the six AA boys, we have Sammie Kenzie from the Harbor Wildcats.
Sammie holds a 4.1 GPA and is looking forward to playing college basketball at the next level.
Congratulations and keep up the good work.
All right Steve, it is about that time.
Yes it is.
Christina, let's get you back out to Bank Ock Arena for the second half here on the home of the high school basketball state finals.
Arkansas TV.
Back at Bank arena.
Westmore.
Bobby Swofford, I'm able to tell you, Brian is one for 14 from the three point line, and Central's two for eight because of Troy Mitchell and his staff.
They do a great job of providing stats to all the media during the state championship games.
There it is a list.
Blake, Randy.
Ernie, Tyler.
They all do a great job.
We're told that this is Troy's 250th state championship game to work.
He's been doing stats for the triple AA for more than 20 years, and that's 250 basketball championship games at a baseball, softball, football.
All the other.
It's a amazing resource that we have our disposal because you and I can't keep stats and call the game at the same time.
You can also follow along those stats and looking for that link.
It's on the Facebook page as well.
But kudos to Troy and his staff for that backdoor cut.
But it's a race.
Got a foul call down low.
But that was a great play out of the half for Bryant Bede to RJ young.
Little backdoor cut.
You mentioned the numbers.
Well I think we're going to see everything going to the basket for Brian after going one for 14 from the three point line, only eight of 26 from the field for Bryant.
I think you're going to get everything trying to go downhill.
One thing that you and I alluded to in the open is go to the basket, use the size advantage of your guards and make sure they can stop that consistent 1 or 2 from the free throw line.
So that ties it up.
We had an overtime late last night.
Bobby, I'm calling it.
We're getting another overtime to finish this thing up west.
But you like calling games.
I do.
I don't want to go home.
That overtime game was awesome last night all the way to the basket, but RJ blocked it.
I was looking for a foul.
No foul called.
Here comes Bede.
Bead.
Be all the way to the basket.
No good.
Follow is good from Ryan.
Yo, yo.
Good.
Follow there.
You can crash the glass if you're Bryant.
Like the second quarter.
Bryant starts the third quarter on a nice run.
They retake the lead 2119.
Bryant locking down on defense.
Long arms hands.
They just make it difficult to get anything.
Be tried to draw a charge.
No good because he was down.
They get the rebound number rejection from B tries again.
He's called for the foul this time.
And since for Connecticut anything to go.
But what about the quick ups from Bede to this a race.
Anything at the rim.
Nothing coming easy for central.
We'll get a chance for two at the foul line.
Right.
Will go to the free throw line.
He has not shot a free throw tonight.
21 for five from the floor.
One for three from the three point line.
He does have five rebounds.
First one just softly over the front of the rim.
Brings central within one.
We can get another tie.
We've been tied four times tonight.
And 11 lead changes.
Make it five times.
Tie.
The largest lead though has been three.
Both teams have led by that margin.
And we're not writing this down.
That's once again thanks to Troy Mitchell and his staff for the stats central back in their zone, daring Bryant to shoot a deep three.
He'll take it this time.
Working inside out.
Boom.
Finally, Abrahamsen I think he hit the first one of the game and they missed their next 13 before he hit that one.
You're exactly right.
Both three pointers are from the coach's son, Abrahams.
And that one is right in front of his old man.
He's going to be a proud moment.
More importantly, because they're in the lead.
Lead change 2421.
Central tries to tie it up in and out.
Ryan Young finds him for the rebound.
We will tell coach I called him an old man.
He feels like it right now.
Again?
Nope.
Pull it down.
Beetle.
Try it.
Beetle.
Knock it down.
Got that?
And the rhythm.
Able to step into it.
And that would look good for the time.
At less than ten.
I'll watch during the halftime warmups.
He took a lot of threes and he made a lot of threes.
In my mind I'm thinking that's got to make him feel better.
Will burst here from Brian Wolf's fake step into the three.
That's good.
All right here we go.
After a slow first half we got some scoring going on.
These two offenses starting to heat up what I liked about central at the half.
They came on a lot earlier than a lot of teams do at halftime to get extra shots up.
Because things weren't going so well in the first half.
And it's already as a lean knocking down Abrahamsen.
We'll try another one off the back of the rim.
Bryant corrals the rebound Ryan Young big thing.
He thought about it.
Coach saying let's go run our offense.
Run our offense.
Corner three.
Rough no good Ryan young skies above central goes up with it.
Can't finish.
With another shooting at a poor percentage.
You can't complain about the looks.
They're wide open.
Corner three.
High Arkansas.
No good.
Think two Hornets fought for it and collide and knocked it to central.
Drive to the basket.
Nice finish.
Brandan Wright he's done that a couple times tonight.
Averages 12 points per game.
Hasn't had the offense going just yet.
Able to get to the ten and finish.
Yeah that time he was able to finish.
He's taking it strong to the rack a couple times but unable to convert.
He knew these offenses would get going at some point in the third quarter.
Not let this down.
Coach wasn't happy was RJ to get up and go here he comes.
Central didn't realize they were playing five on four.
RJ Young's going to be called for the foul.
He hustled.
He fell to the floor.
Laid there for a second or second to long for the Bryant bench lock.
He got up, sprinted down the court.
You'll see him come in here.
And the hesitation there by him cause the Bryant defender to kind of stop the feet for just a moment, then able to get them half of a step towards the basket and a chance for two more of his free throws.
That one is going to the free throw line is Trajan Aleem.
Look at him.
Three for nine from the floor.
He made it three one for two from the three.
That's his first free throw attempt.
He gets the kind roll.
Bryant three subs coming in.
Cade Hicks.
So Walker.
And Ryan Young is leaving the game.
Abrahamsen left the game.
Two for two.
You know what that does another lead change.
Central takes the lead 2827.
He central in their zone.
He kicks it to the corner Ross got it.
I'm sorry.
That's Abraham.
So I thought Abraham some left the game.
It was rough.
The lefty sharpshooter hits another.
He's starting to heat up three from distance.
Gives him nine for the afternoon.
Baseline drive.
Nice floater.
Little short on.
Not any good speed with the rebound.
He's looking to push but he's picked off.
Good play by Aleem.
We aim at the Tigers looking to run.
They'll try a three.
Got it.
Central retakes the lead.
Trey Hope defense leads the offense.
Katie Hicks thought about it.
Decided not to.
Working it around the perimeter against this central Tigers zone team.
Oh here we go again Abraham.
Some starting to fill it.
The sophomore three threes already here in the third quarter.
The offense is and the crowd is starting to heat up.
Bryant retakes the lead 3331.
As 15 lead changes.
Oh.
Drives in kicks it.
Blair.
Gone.
Tigers.
Over the back.
Oh!
We got a foul on the floor.
Brian, they're getting Brian's, Brant Walker with the hold as the sophomore senior.
The freshman goes up and gets him.
These two teams trading haymakers here in the third.
Well, more points scored in the third than we did in the first or second.
It is Bryant 33, central 31.
Stick around.
This is going to be a good one.

Tonight's student all star is Sammie Hensley from Springdale Harbor.
The senior point guard has a 4.1 GPA.
Plans to play hoops at the next level.
So congratulations to Harvard Semi Hennesy for coming.
Today's student also trying his out scored little Rock central 15 to 12 so far in this third quarter.
Nine of those 15 points come from Mason Abraham.
And he is three for four from the three point line.
That's his nine points.
He also has an assist beat has the three leading the way for central as a team with five points.
Bryant there for the jump ball.
Cade Hicks nice helping the central Tiger up.
That's good sportsmanship helped right off the floor.
Mentioned the shots though for Abrahamsen.
This will do.
Shoot or shoot.
Doesn't matter how many you miss you're going to keep letting it fly.
And this third quarter is a prime example of why you continue to let it launch.
Tigers back with it on offense now trailed by two.
Abraham Simms now four for eight.
I'll take 50% from the three point line.
Blair give it up.
Hope in the corner.
Stolen by RJ young.
Looking ahead, he's got Cade Hicks.
He just decides to keep it.
Hicks in the corner now.
Across.
Good.
Pass inside to Ryan Young outside walking the ball wide open.
Three.
No good.
Little long but Abraham some chases it down.
Speed inside to Hicks.
Hicks kicks it outside.
RJ young first second chance opportunity.
The one that was created because of great ball movement for Bryant.
Moving the ball quickly around the perimeter.
Young's wide open and he tickles the twine 3630 15. lead.
Largest of the game.
Question mark.
It is 661.
2721.
Earlier in the quarter.
The foul on Ryan Young.
Tigers to throw it in underneath the basket.
Still tied at history.
Yes I memory is right.
And this is the 12th game.
Big central hit a three when Bryant took that seven point lead and just came right back.
Responded.
Tigers looking to penetrate.
They do.
Kind of wild left handed hook shot from 15ft.
No good.
Probably not what they wanted from right.
Nice look inside to RJ.
He was held while he was going up to catch it.
Another good job on the shoes in the size advantage for Bryant's.
They're getting that much smaller.
Blair pinned on the block.
And once his teammates recognize that they tried to get to him and Blair's whistled for the hold.
What an inbounds play that time Cameron been just kind of had a moving screen moving guys out of the way.
And they were kind of more preoccupied with him and they forgot about RJ.
Timeout Tigers probably a pretty good timeout.
That's now a seven point lead for Bryant.
Now we can say it's the largest lead of the game right.
That's right 3831 54 seconds to go in the third quarter.
This timeout does a couple things for central.
It gets you an extra break before you get the timeout at the end of the quarter.
But also how important are these last 54 seconds.
Because you just mentioned this is matching the largest lead of the contest for Brian.
You need a good possession.
Go quickly.
Get a two for one chance to get this back to a two possession game.
Going to the fourth.
Yeah.
Ideal situation.
You score get a stop.
You scored.
You go to the fourth quarter really close game.
And the last thing you want is an empty possession Brian scores again and you're down 9 or 10.
Well thing to pay attention to though is Brian Young checked out after that last personal foul.
The six four senior for Brian.
This had a four personals one of three players with six rebounds.
Central may have a chance to take advantage on the glass with the absence of the other young Ryan Young for at least probably the first half of this fourth quarter, Brian has made four out of their last field goals.
They're on an eight oh run right now.
Central hasn't scored in the last 2.5 minutes.
So that's another reason for that timeout.
Let's get a good shot here.
Let's make a good.
Decision.
Hornets playing here for a third straight year.
They lost in 2024 but won it last year.
That says a lot about a program.
Three straight state championship appearances a lot of roster turnover each year.
It's turned into one of those powerhouses.
And essentially every sport you have is finding coach Shelby Lewis is standing right next to the official to help him point that out.
Bryant was holding on the inbounds play.
Bryant's going to put in Suggs real quick.
Suggs, also a member of the football team along with Ryan Young.
Suggs looking to get a second read this season.
That's four team foul.
So another one on Bryant's.
No.
Actually that's the fifth called for.
Yeah they just figured that out I looked up at the scoreboard.
While you're saying that I was like oh they just fix that.
That's five guys.
So that's an ideal situation for the Tigers.
That's a pretty good shot right here I would say you get two free throws.
Get Sampson Blair up there.
Shooter's touch gets it to fall.
And he never want to send a player who's been struggling from the floor to the foul line.
A chance to see the ball go through a net a couple times.
And maybe all of a sudden he gets in rhythm and has a big fourth quarter.
That was much better.
It's a good looking stroke.
Tigers cut into the lead.
Make it a five point game.
Here's what we're talking about.
Get a stop.
If you're the Central Tigers get the ball back.
Cut into the lead some more.
Cade Hicks finds RJ young a lot of traffic.
So he kicks it back out.
Kicks right a little pick and roll feed for three.
No good battle for the board.
Tie up.
Got a tie up.
It's going to go to central.
So look they got to stop.
Oh I thought that arrows pointing towards.
Oh that's the bonus there.
Oh I didn't look at the possession arrow.
Bead will throw it inbounds for Bryant.
Gets it RJ young.
They're going to work it a little bit right.
Mark the shot clock.
Get the last shot.
That shot clock is no Abraham Hampson no good battle for the boards.
Tigers get it.
They got their stop.
Can they get some points.
Got 19 seconds left.
They should pull this out.
Take the last shot.
That way they know the worst.
They're going down to start the fourth quarter.
Five points.
Get a basket or three.
Make it a one possession game.
Tigers working.
Shoot from the corner.
No good.
Bryant gets the rebound one second left.
Half court heave.
I don't think it was in time.
It's no good anyway.
Bryant leads it 3833.
We got eight minutes to go in the six eight state championship game.

Number three Mississippi State.
And of course the basketball team they beat in overtime Ole Miss.
And they'll be playing for an SEC title tomorrow.
And maybe the biggest win of the day.
They don't have to play Florida.
Yeah Vandy with the upset.
All right here we go.
We got eight minutes to go.
Central down five with the ball Blair running things for central.
It looks to go inside.
And it was just knocked away.
Couldn't catch it a little off balance for Don Bryant trying to extend their lead.
See how patient they are being gets RJ young over to Abraham to work at baseline.
Yeah they're working it around a little bit.
RJ young out maybe Hicks with it Texas trying to find bead RJ young will pull it.
No good central there for the rebound.
Nothing doing on the inside.
Good defensive possession for the Tigers.
But they can't take advantage going a little too fast.
And that pass air mails into the cheerleaders.
Yeah.
Blair was looking for Jamie Dunn.
He thought he had a mismatch.
But just not even Dunn could catch that one.
So each team's had a possession and no points.
Look at that zone just packed in the paint.
Beagle.
Take it in trying to dunk it over somebody over Dunn got the rebound.
Loose ball wow.
Tried to put him on a poster.
Nice left handed shot.
Just won't fall.
Got his own rebound that will fall.
Tigers come away with it.
That was Suggs in there.
Bagley player all the way.
Nice left handed shot.
Couldn't get it.
Go.
Here comes feet to a one out to Katie Hicks.
It's kind of fumbled it.
Now he's got to figure something out.
Look at RJ young on the opportunity.
Finally something goes down.
Four consecutive point blank opportunities for Bryant.
They're three on the previous possession.
Good and go.
But RJ young elevates in the finish.
And coach Abrahamsen quick some quick timeout.
Some fellas we got to settle down.
Make the simple play.
Love the aggressive fake from Bede.
It would have been on every highlight show in the country had he finished it, but he did it for this central is zero for one to start the fourth quarter.
Brian started getting six shots there, one for six.
That's offensive rebounds, offensive glass and really starting to lean Brian's way.
They have 12 offensive rebounds.
Now central is going to have to get inside down the lane.
Because it's that size advantage.
Those are all guards down there rebounding for the Hornets getting second chances.
Tigers down seven over there in the huddle trying to figure out what they're going to do.
It's a very crucial point in this game right here.
No doubt.
It's a lot lower scoring affair than it was the first two times they met 5950 on January the 13th, 6460 and the most previous meeting on February 10th.
But it's still like the offenses are going to wake up at some point.
Well, time is running out.
They're going to wake up.
They better set the alarm clock for now.
Tigers is 29% from the floor.
They are nine of ten from the foul line.
They're going to be a little more aggressive.
But again the size of the links maybe more importantly than than the height for Bryant, the passing lanes are disappearing in a hurry.
For Bryant, they've only gone to the free throw line three times to two for three.
We're ready to play.
I'll see Blair in there.
They're giving him a little break.
Yeah, you went right when the show.
Right gets around beat.
He's all the way to the basket.
He got fouled with body contact.
That's why he was short.
He turned the corner quickly.
It's a good explosive first step.
And I think that's what Central's I'm going to have to do more try to get in the lane.
Take advantage of an already pretty heavy free throw advantage.
You can continue to add to it.
Got to make your free throws.
He does ten of 11 now is central from the stripe.
Right for the game.
Eight points four for four from the free throw line.
Giving nine points.
Struggling from the field but not at the free throw line.
So a five point lead.
Hornets with the ball.
He feeds one into post up.
He's what he's trying to do.
He kicks.
Looked inside.
Thought he had Ryan Young with nothing.
There.
Brian being patient the time being come get the ball.
Go make a play for us.
We're at eight seconds Carter.
Was it fair.
Kick it out to Abraham.
Some deep three off the front of the rim looking RJ young crashing in Katie Hicks foul.
Oh good good.
Tough rebound for RJ young for two more offensive rebounds.
You mentioned the shot disparity between these two teams in the fourth quarter.
Add more to it.
There because Brian is just immediately chasing the shot.
No matter what no matter who lets it go.
He's got four blue jerseys pounding the offensive glass.
Look up RJ young five for 11.
Now.
You know he got off to a little bit of a slow start.
But he's been finishing a lot better at the rim 13 points seven rebounds.
Feels like he's got a lot more than seven rebounds.
Six second free throws good.
That'll increase the lead to six.
A lead for three.
No rebound Katie Hicks feed with it.
Feed.
Looking to run.
Who's going to stop him.
Fans wanted to travel.
Didn't get it.
Oh kick it down Ryan Young drives baseline.
He'll kick it out to Abrahams and RJ young no good.
Hicks with the rebound.
Another offensive rebound Abrahamsen got it.
Too many second chance opportunities since Central's given up.
Offensive rebounds are lead two shots going down the hatch for the Hornets nine point lead.
Central in jeopardy.
They have to respond 440 to go.
Crucial moment drive to the basket like that.
Put your head down.
Go to the basket.
Timeout right.
Does it again.
Tough runner there for Wright.
Has been struggling from the floor but finally gets a tough one to go.
But how about the sophomore Abrahamsen five for 11 from three for four in this second half.
The sophomore is shining when the lights become the brightest.
He is their leading scorer right now.
You know beans only got seven RJ young 13.
That's been their two guys.
They average a combined 40 points a game.
Tickets.
This catches that one.
And smooth motion to kid in the open.
You and I talked about young was going to get his point feeds always going to be there.
Who's going to be that secondary score for Bryant.
And Abramson has certainly stepped into that.
You know college coaches they know what they're doing when it comes to recruiting.
Not a great scoring night for RJ younger Kemba.
But you look they've combined for 14 rebounds and six assists.
So they're finding ways to besides the defensive end.
You know we've seen the blocked shots from those guys too.
They impact the game in many other ways besides scoring.
And that's what they're really good players do is even if the shots not follow you, you've got to find a way to contribute to help your team be successful in both young and beat have certainly done that tonight.
Tigers extending their defense.
Good pass.
Just couldn't handle it.
But look at feet.
Beat is so strong I guess Bobby I've seen that over and over this weekend when he got it.
And kind of off balance players just reach in and tie you up or rip it out.
He is so strong.
They were trying to reach in.
He got his balance and kept that ball and just so secure with it.
That's the strength that he has.
And that's why he's going to have a chance to play at the next level just because of the intangibles.
You know, everybody who goes to the college level can score, can shoot.
But it's the little things, the attention to detail, the willingness to get in the lane and mix it up for an offensive rebound, those that's what separates the good players and the guys who get the chance to play at the next level.
Because, look, there are nights the team has to take out Abrahams and a bad shooting nights, right?
So how do you score?
Well, you get offensive rebounds.
You get steals.
You get into transition, you get some fastbreak points.
You got to find other ways to score on that night.
And that's what these two guys can do.
And that's what you'll need to find right now.
But set up an inbounds play.
Tigers did a good job of defending it.
So Bryant will just pull it out.
Clock is their friend.
No need to get in the rush.
But there is only eight seconds on the play clock.
We just saw that he's going to work.
Spins got cut off Brian Young jumper no good.
There he is again RJ young could not corral that one.
I think he stepped out of bounds.
We got to take a break when we come back your final three minutes and 57 seconds possibly of high school basketball.

Kosik.
Arena.
Westmore.
Bobby Swofford with.
You think it's the calm before the storm, Bobby.
Everyone is in their seats right now, but they're about to get out of their seats because we've got four minutes left.
357, to be exact.
I need to correct myself.
I thought it was going to be Central's ball, but they ruled it was off central.
So it's Brian's ball out of the timeout.
Trying to get it in to be the Tigers.
Knocked it out of his hands and out of bounds.
They'll reset run a different out of bounds play.
It's interesting.
They had Abraham some throwing it in the minute ago.
This time he's going to throw it in.
He'll just throw it into Katie Hicks at the top.
30s on the play clock.
So full play clock.
Hornets walk it around.
Checking inside trying to get something.
Beads left wide open and B buries it.
That's the one guy you can't leave open.
No matter how poor they've been struggling from the three point line.
You can't leave the Hornets open and they make a play.
All of a sudden it's a ten point lead.
Tigers need a basket.
Right left hand shot.
No good follow.
No good RJ young, another rebound.
Here comes bead.
Bead looking to attack B little floater no good on RJ young with the rebound.
And in there killing him on the glass.
The offensive second chance opportunities are absolutely killing Central's chances at a title.
It is a 12 point Hornets lead right all the way.
And he missed it.
Went to dunk it lost it.
Thankfully for them his teammate was there to put it in.
Thomas took off from a little too far out but is able to punch that one of the left hand.
As you said.
Luckily, his teammates there to clean up the mess.
Daylan Thomas there puts it back in.
Still a ten point lead for Bryant.
I think they may let the air out of the ball a little bit.
Work this play clock, limit the number of possessions central even has.
Tigers are going to face Gabi.
Try to keep it out of his hands.
I think that's smart.
That was only the first team out.
No second team foul on central.
That's probably a good idea.
Ratchet up their defense.
If you call for foul, that's okay.
You mean they may need to foul will later to send them to the line?
That's correct.
Still have three fouls to give.
So might as well be more aggressive.
Go for the steal.
Try to create some.
Have it for this Bryant offense.
That seems to have really settled down here in this second half RJ young cut across the lane and there were three tigers that were surrounding him.
That's how compact his zone is.
When cutter RJ young tough move to the basket.
He was fouled.
He'll go to the free throw line.
That was just a great cut from RJ.
You're moving without the basketball.
It's going to be so critical for success at the next level.
Young's got all the intangibles.
It's hard to see what his decision is committed to.
Tennessee Tech coaching change.
There for the Razorbacks head coach.
What was the head coach there?
That was where he was okay and relieved of the duty.
So there's a lot of good cut.
Makes the second free throw to lead grows to 11.
It all starts right here for the Tigers.
You got a shot.
You got to take advantage of it right here.
You need a back bus basket or bucket Blair back in the game.
He drives to the basket left it short.
And once again there's Jalen Thomas.
Thomas back to back baskets off the offensive rebound.
That's what Blair does.
He demands so much attention.
The Tigers leading scorer coming into it.
Everybody converges on him when he gets the blow by.
And that leaves wide open opportunities for second chance points.
And central finally able to do what Bryant's been doing for a lot of this contest.
And let's get a second look at me.
Let's take a look at second chance points.
Wow.
Bryant has 21 second chance points.
Central has 11.
Look at the score.
Central is down by nine.
They're down by ten in second chance points.
That's the story of the game 16 offensive rebounds for Bryant have turned into those 21 points.
So they're taking advantage of what central is allowing them to take the points in.
The paint has started to even out a little bit.
It was 12 to 2 at one point, but central started to do a little more damage on the inside.
Central has got to get stops, got to be more aggressive.
They don't have to start fouling yet.
They don't have to start launching three pointers yet.
But they've got to get definitely get stops and they get to the ball of baskets.
It all starts right here.
Look I said they got chance.
They have to score here.
Well they did well.
The next thing they got to do is get a stop.
You can't trade baskets right now.
And that's the other secondary story of the game to Abraham.
Some.
Yeah.
No question.
Those five threes were huge in the second half hour for threes.
Five in all five for 11 from the three point line.
So many times in state championship games it's not the big names that you expect to make the difference.
It's always the baby, your role player or young player that doesn't necessarily get as many minutes steps up and makes a big play.
At least so far.
Tonight has been Abraham.
May be quickly doubled.
They get the ball out of his hands.
Abraham soon bam the dagger.
He knew it.
He just turned and started walking the other way.
The sophomore with ice in his veins.
Six from downtown Tigers quickly down the court will get a foul called.
Tigers will go back to the free throw line.
Just the reaction from the sophomore when he lets that one fly from the left hand.
He immediately turned to the central student section and said, yeah, that one's going down well.
Good shooters now, right?
When it leaves your hand, you have a pretty good feel.
Sometimes you get called off, you get surprised that it doesn't fall.
Nice little pull up jumper from Blair.
Minute 19 to go ten point lead for Bryant.
Need some turnovers.
Got one there Blair underneath the basket stuff.
What's he going to do with it.
He tried to throw it out.
Gets it right back.
He needs to nail this three.
Got it.
Here we go.
Nice answer for the Tigers.
Maybe not the dagger in the game takes a timeout to calm the nerves.
As the lead has been cut to seven.
Quick turnover in the triple.
Took three and a half quarters to get Blair going for the Tigers.
But he's got 13 points.
And all of a sudden West new lies with 63 seconds to play.
Tigers have hit three in a row.
What a big shot right there from Blair Blair up to 13 points.
He's two of eight from the three point line now has big time players making big time shots and big time moments right.
Tries to the Tigers got a nice little, mini run.
They made.
I was trying to hand it up in 21 seconds.
They got five points.
But this is the point of the game where you have to ask yourself.
You need to stop fouling.
Now, obviously it's a seven point contest with 103 to play.
A shot clock is essentially half of that time.
Can you afford if you're central to left, half of the remaining clock expire down by playing this possession now, I think he's got to be really, really aggressive going for steals.
And who cares if you give him a foul, you still have one to play with with a force.
Remember he committed a foul.
That shot clock does reset.
Do what you do.
Do what you just did.
You got to steal Blair three Blair hit a jumper.
Got a steal.
Blair hit in 35 zero.
Run in just 21 seconds.
He's traveled and lost his footing.
Minor tweaked his ankle a little bit, too.
Well, if we're going to get a second look at that bead.
Slow to get up.
I think the ankle might have rolled just a little bit as it was coming towards the basketball.
It did.
It was right in front of us.
I saw that it was a clear look.
You know, sometimes when you're running full speed to catch that inbounds pass where you got to stop and you only got two steps right, and that foot, just a little bit of a twist.
One minute to go.
Tigers got to go Blair kicked out.
Corner three.
Short rebound.
Loose.
Tigers get it.
Tigers drive to the basket.
Tough shot will fall but they'll go the free throw line for good.
Looks out of there for central.
Bryant made a living on offensive rebounds that possession.
Tigers get the offensive rebound shows.
No matter how big the lead is or how late in the game, winning a state championship never comes easy.
It's hard.
It is hard.
And as a coach, how many times do you think they look up at that score scoreboard, see how much time is left and you feel like it stops moving at some point?
Yeah.
When Abrahamsen hit that three they went up ten with a minute 41.
And that lead has been cut in half in the last 56 seconds.
Big free throws here for central.
Little delay to wipe up some of the sweat.
A team going to the free throw line.
Leans first one.
Rattles out some.
Really good at the line so far tonight.
Central 11 of 12.
Before that Miss Lane was perfect.
Two for two.
Need this for A12 possession game.
Rattles it home.
Sets up their press.
They're in no hurry to give the ball to Bryant.
Get everything set up for Hampson.
Looking for somebody becomes open and being gets rid of.
It's Katie Hicks safely across.
RJ Young's going to take it to the basket.
Beat the press and make them pay.
It's good.
Heads up play there by young to realize they're going to give up a foul.
So you might as well take up a shot opportunity.
Ball handling but no good.
Got to finish that shot off balance.
Here's a three Tigers rattle out.
And RJ young finally gets the rebound.
Flies through the air to get that rebound.
Maybe the biggest rebound of the game is Cameron Bede looks over at the Bryant Hornets fans tells them get up let's go.
That gives young a double double 16 points ten rebounds.
Good chance to he'll be talking to us in just a little bit.
Maybe tournament MVP got him believe it's going to be here.
But that is a big time defensive forward to go out and get it a little place.
Got to make him.
If you want to win a title that was not the fifth foul.
This is the fifth foul.
He's trying to say I'm shooting that.
Now they're going to say to Larry Abramson, still coaching.
He's talking to RJ young.
Hey on that inbounds play I want you to go here.
Not there.
Sexual does have a timeout.
So they've got to go quickly to 16 seconds left and down at least eight but not ten.
When you're thinking three all the way two does you know good baits.
First trip to the free throw line.
How about that?
As active as he is, as much as he's going to the hole, six of his ten attempts have been beyond the three point line.
Central's down.
Nice job of keeping beat out of the lane.
Got that one to go.
So it's a nine point lead three possession game.
This is just take care of the ball.
Make your free throws guys.
And you're taking the title home.
Yeah that's exactly right.
Central's run out of opportunities to stop the clock.
You have to go quickly get a three get the timeout and then still need a lot of help even after that point.
Steals, turnovers.
Basically you cannot let Bryant throttle you shoot more free throws.
You need steals and turnovers with only 16 seconds.
That's going to take you about five seconds just to go the length of the floor.
Pretty dire situation right here from the Tigers.
But we've seen crazy things in basketball, especially here.
I'll never forget as long as I live the Bryant are the Benton and Maumelle game.
Just last year.
Everybody in this arena thought the championship was going to Pulaski County, but it made a crazy comeback.
Hornets played some nice tough defense, but Blair knocks it down.
So hey that's all you could do.
That's all you could ask for.
Hit it three.
Let's call timeout to say six point game guys get a steal.
We got to get the steal in the basket.
Yeah.
The problem is is now central has zero timeouts left.
If you're Bryant you can just throw the ball to central right here.
Let him get a wide open look over.
They don't want to throw the ball back in.
But again as you mentioned crazy things happen when you're out there between the lines.
But you know, Bryant if they do things correctly, no matter what happens with this inbounds passes game.
Oh, well first is it over.
Yeah.
Because the play clock will not stop after a made baskets.
Not like College of the pros where the clock stops.
Yeah right.
That's one thing.
Yeah.
Coach Hampson could be telling them guys no matter what happens here, even if we throw it, I guess you don't want to say throw it away.
You're not going to say throw it away, but just make sure that you get it in.
That clock's going to start and and that'll start to celebration for the Hornets.
Hornets with the ball.
They get it to RJ.
Young gets it to Abraham.
And then that will do it.
Hornets are going to walk away with back to back titles.
Bryant wins this 158 to 50.
And the Hornets go immediately to the student section to celebrate.
Let's see.
Popcorn flying.
Katy Hicks up on the table.
There's RJ young celebrating and Coach Abrahamsen with hugs.
What a finish for the Bryant Hornets.
Cool.
Hand out some trophies.
We'll hear from the state tournament MVP and coach Mike Abramson when we come back.

This is the Bryant Hornets are the six AA boys champions.
Final score 58 to 50.
The Hornets getting it done on the glass.
Second chance points 21 to 12.
The Bryant Hornets outscoring the Central Tigers.
We got head coach Mike Abrahamson joining us now to the Bryant Hornets.
Go back to back coach.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
That was a battle.
You told me it was going to be a battle.
You knew after playing them twice you had a feel for this game kind of go on that.
Did it play out the way you were thinking?
Well, yes and no.
I mean, Central's played so well, the last six weeks, you know, and you just continue to get better.
So we knew they were going to be difficult.
We were trying to find, maybe some different ways to score offensively.
And, that didn't probably go as planned in the first half.
So we just said, hey, forgive me.
Let's just go.
Let's just go do what we've been doing all year long.
And maybe that's my my fault.
I thought we had one.
You, an advantage with CB and RJ on the inside.
Just trying to play through them every possession and not take as many pull up threes.
And, you know, that's probably my fault.
Didn't look very pretty in the first half.
And so we just said, hey, listen.
It's my fault.
We'll take the let's just go play.
Other guys got to step up and make some shots, and they did.
When you woke up this morning and you looked at Mason, say you're going to hit six threes and lead our team in scoring in the state championship game.
No.
Oh no no no I will tell you I will tell you guys that that I'm not completely shocked.
This kid puts in a lot of work and I see it with my own eyes.
I mean, before school, after practice.
Stretching, strengthening his body, you know, icing.
You know, he does everything he can, to maximize his abilities and, you know, only thing I really say to him is, you know, just shoot it like you shooting practice, you know, like, I like to play a game called bump it, and he shoots so well.
Or like, you shoot on the gun and he just.
And he, you know, he shoots so well in the gun and just make it like that, you know, make it different.
And, he was he was obviously very big for us tonight.
Also big second chance points 21 to 12 in second chance points.
And that's a difference of nine.
And you win by eight.
Well that's interesting.
That you say that because I was unhappy with the second chance points that they were getting.
I didn't.
A lot of it was second half for I know for us getting those points.
But I thought we give you know, great effort defensively to stop their first shot.
And then we wouldn't have anybody rebounding a few times.
So it seemed like more than nine.
But so I can tend to, you know, maybe exaggerate a little bit in my head about how bad it is.
Yeah.
But back to back state champions coach congratulations.
We're going to have a trade places with the MVP and try to celebrate.
Enjoy this one a little.
Thanks a lot.
We will.

So as a coach here for Leon County, for sure, on a night where the Central Tigers were, I mean, they're all over you.
They were going to make sure you weren't an impact on offense.
You ended up with eight rebounds and five assists.
Bobby, now we're talking about that.
How good players find other ways to help the team.
Was that what you were trying to do?
Absolutely.
My coach told us we knew they was going to do everything in the world to take me and RJ at the game, and so finding other players, letting them you letting them like Mason, like Spencer, let them shoot the ball.
That's what they do the best.
Like Katie.
Let Katie play me.
You know what I'm saying?
Shout out to the liberals, Katie.
T so t so came in a great game.
Minutes.
He might have.
He scored two points.
The best two points.
We got a guy who played defense.
And so them guys really mean a lot to me in RJ.
For sure.
They did it for us.
If they weren't going to do it for nobody knows what to do for us for sure.
Back to back state championships.
Trying to go celebrate this with your teammates.
Thank you.
Congratulation Cameron b c b your state tournament MVP headed off to UCA.
They're getting a good one.
Yes they are.
Yeah.
Because what he just said right there tells you he's a good player because he cares.
And he could read it.
Read off what those other guys those role players.
What they did tonight to help their team with his team players.
Right.
That's what you want.
A roster full of team players in college.
That is going to be a wrap.
How about that?
12 games in four days.
An awesome, awesome event.
And at the arena, I just had a blast.
And it's a shame it's over.
But now we look forward to baseball and softball here a couple months.
It's a bittersweet moment.
High school basketball season comes to an end, but what a great celebration it's been this week.
We got to talk about the positive team's win winning state championship.
Role players stepping up and having huge moments to help their win.
Team win a championship.
This week is what this weekend is, what it's all about, and highlighting Arkansas high school student athletes and what great kids they are.
