Jose Hernandez’s murals are driven by the intentional ways murals transform a community.
Also known as “x3mex,” muralist Jose Hernandez’s favored tool is spray paint because he’s able to cover a larger space in a shorter amount of time! In our final episode of “Art on the Street,” see how his pieces — including Little Rock, Arkansas’s, 7th Street Mural Project — are driven by social commentary, response to social injustices and the intentional ways murals transform a community.

So he was just this painted from 2016 to 2019.
And then when the George Floyd stuff happened.
Me and Jermaine came out here and I painted the George Floyd face.
I was getting a lot of messages online from other artists saying that they wanted to come out here and paint.
And really, we didn't have any permission or anything like that.
So what do you do?
You sit there and like let it happen or you get organized?
What better way to do something than use your platform, the things that you know how to do.
You know your tools.
So you're a writer.
You write about it, you know.
We paint.
So we went to the streets and painted.
Why the streets?
Because that's where that's where everything happens.
That's where the beatings are happening, where people are being killed.
So that's where the message needs to come from.
It's our duty, you know, to do something for future generations.
