(upbeat music) - Hello, everyone, and good morning.

It's so good to be with you this morning.

I have a really fun activity to share with you today, but first, I want to introduce you to my new friend, Cheddar.

Cheddar, would you like to say hello to the children watching and maybe tell them what brought you to the teacher's house?

- [Cheddar] Of course.

My name is Cheddar and I'm here to study abroad.

- Now, Cheddar knows that I'm the math teacher here at the house, and I've been showing her a neat math trick that has everything to do with being a mouse.

So a super cool fifth grader named Halle showed me this, and I knew when I saw it, I had to share it with you.

So I hope you've got paper and a pencil close by.

I'm going to take a math problem, seven plus two, and we know that equals nine, and I'm going to show you how to draw a mouse with this.

So first, draw your seven.

At the bottom of the seven, draw your plus sign, then your two.

Then your nine is gonna go up here at the top by the seven, and we're almost done.

Keep taking this line from the nine, connect it down to the bottom of the two.

Can you see the mouse?

We're gonna give it a little tail, maybe a nose, an eye, and how about some whiskers?

Isn't he cute?

- [Cheddar] Oh, my goodness.

He's adorable.

- [Frisbee] Ms. Post, Ms. Post, Ms. Post!

- Good morning, Frisbee.

How are you?

Oh!

- Who is this?

- Frisbee, this is our new friend Cheddar.

Why don't you introduce yourself?

- Mm-mm, there's only room for one domesticated animal in this house.

- [Cheddar] Oh, Frisbee, I'm so excited to meet you!

- I mean, you are kinda charming.

Where are you from?

- [Cheddar] I'm from across the pond.

- I love ponds.

I love jumping in them and swimming in them, that's great.

- [Cheddar] I love cheese.

- Oh, oh, I do too.

- [Cheddar] You wanna be friends with me?

- I would love to be friends with you.

(Cheddar squeaks) - Okay, great.

So while you two are both here, I have a good idea.

Let's take some time and practice our addition facts.

Could we do that?

- Mm-hm.

- Yes.

- Yes?
