Before we get into the dancing of cumbia, we need to know what cumbia is and where cumbia is from.
Dancing is a very important part of Hispanic culture as well as many other cultures.
There are many cultures around the world and those cultures have unique dances.
All those dances have different rhythms, different sounds, different musical styles.
Each different sound is produced by an amazing instrument.
Learning about other cultures is so amazing and magical.
Right?
Kids: Sí.
All the cultures are different and unique.
Like cumbia dance.
Cumbia is the fun sound of many Spanish speaking countries.
But especially the sound of the colorful, magical and beautiful country of Colombia, where I am from.
Colombia is the fifth largest country in Latin America and home to the world's third largest population of Spanish speaking people.

Now let's learn some more about cumbia dance.
Cumbia is a style of Latin music that became popular through South America, Central America and in the United States.
Traditional cumbia music uses a blend of African, indigenous and European styles.
Also, traditional cumbia uses instruments such as calling drums, guitars, maracas and accordion.
Cumbia is a happy sound like Colombian people.
Did you know that Colombia is one of the happiest nations in the world?
See, Colombia is a country that is definitely worth visiting.
I hope that someday you get the opportunity to do so.
In the meantime, we can all enjoy dancing Colombian cumbia here at Arkansas PBS Rise and Shine.
And like the Colombian people, find happiness through the music that we all listen and dance.
We are going to dance the basic steps of cumbia from Colombia.
This cumbia is dance set in four count rhythm.
It sounds like this.
One, two, three, four.
Now let's do it in Spanish.
Uno, dos, tres, cuatro.

Let's do it one more time.
Uno, dos, tres, cuatro.
Step one.
We're going to start doing march in place.
March in place.
March in place.
March in place.
Step two, you're going to put your hands in your hips and then you're going to moving your hips, moving your hips, moving your hips, moving your hips.
Step three.
You're going to start putting your arms up and then arms up, arms up, arms up, arms up.
And you're going to count twice to four.
And in the meantime, you're going to turn back to the front.
Uno, dos, tres, cuatro.
Coming back to the front.
