I'm Randi House, and I'm a kindergarten teacher from right here in Arkansas.
I am so excited that you'll be joining me for another fun day of learning together.
And today we're gonna be learning about how to make a delicious, a yummy, a strawberry banana smoothie.
- Smoothie!
- Frisbee!
What are you doing here?
- Uh, you said smoothie, Ms. House.
- Oh Frisbee, I'm so sorry.
Ms. House was making a joke.
We're not really making a smoothie.
We're making blends today.
- What's a blend?
- A blend is when you take two things and you put them together.
Like a smoothie is when you take two kinds of fruit, like bananas and strawberries, and you blend them together to make one delicious, yummy drink.
(gasp) But, like I said, we're not actually making smoothies.
We're making blends.
So I'm taking two letters and putting them together to make a new, yummy, delicious blend.
Okay?
- How do they taste, though?
- Well, I'm not really sure.
I've never eaten a blend before.
Maybe if you're, if you're a really good boy, maybe at the end, I'll let you try one of my blends.
- Okay.
- Okay, great.
All right.
So I just happen to have a blender right here, and I'm gonna be putting in some letters to make some yummy blends.
Now, I'm, uh, uh, ah, ah!
I'm gonna put my letters in.
We're gonna blend them up together, and then we're gonna see what comes out.
So first, Frisbee, I'm starting with a B and an L. Do you know what sound a B makes?
- Buh.
- Perfect.
Can you make a blender sound?
- Mm-hmm.
- Here we go.
(imitating blender) Out pops my B and L, which makes a bluh.
Can you say that sound?
- Bluh.
- Bleurgh.
- Bleurgh.
- Bleurgh.
- Yeah, I love it.
Like black.
And blog.
Can you say another bluh word?
- Bland.
- My smoothie is not bland.
No, sir.
All right, next I'm gonna put a G and an L in my blender.
Can you make your blender sound for me?
(imitating blender) Out pops, G, L, which makes the sounds of gluh.
- Gluh.
- Gluh.
- Glugh.
- Like glum.
- Mm-hmm.
- Like globe.
- Mm-hmm.
- Mm-hmm.
Let's try another one, let's try my S and an L. I'm gonna put them in my blender.
All right, Frisbee, here we go.
(imitating blender) Out pops S and and L, and it makes the sound of sluh.
- Sluh.
- Sluh.
- Slugh.
- Uh.
Like slip and slap.
- Slobber!
- Oh, did you slobber on me again, Frisbee?
- I'm sorry.
- What did we say about that?
All right, let's try one more.
Let's do an S and a T and let's blend it.
(imitating blender) Out pops S, T, which makes sst.
- Stuh.
- Sst.
- Stuh.
- Like the word stick.
- Huh, stick!
- I said stick!
Oh no.
I don't have a stick.
I got a pencil.
Does this work?
- Yes, ma'am.
(excited shrieking) - Let it go!
- Okay.
So guys, I hope you were able to learn about some blends.
Remember a blend is when you take two letters, you blend them all up and they make a yummy new blend where you can hear both of their sounds.
Thank you, Frisbee, for all your help today.
I'm so glad you got your, he just bluhed his stick on the table.
- That's a number 2!
- A number two.
- I prefer a number one.
- And I hope you will be back tomorrow.
So more fun and learning here with Arkansas Rise and Shine.
- Bye!
