Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) - Good morning, Arkansas students and families.
It's Meghan Ables here and my special friend Nubyia.
And today we're going to learn all about routines.
- What are routines?
- Well, a routine is a regular set of steps or actions.
An example might be how we get ready in the morning or for bed.
I'll tell you about my bedtime routine.
So the first thing I do is brush my teeth.
Then I wash my face, then I go put on my pajamas, and then I have to read a story before I go to bed.
So even as an adult, routines are very important.
- I wonder, when I grow up, if my routines will change.
- I wonder that too.
Well, you know what?
We have a handy dandy time machine and you could go and we could see.
But before that, let's practice and see what is your routine like now.
So show me what your morning routine is.
Wake up.
Okay.
Brush those teeth.
Get dressed.
All right, then you eat breakfast.
Okay.
So do you wake yourself up?
Okay, then you brush your teeth, you get dressed, you eat your breakfast, pack your backpack and then you go to school.
Is that right?
Okay.
So now that's super cool.
You do that every day?
- Almost every day.
- That's a lot to remember.
So how about let's get in the time machine and let's go to the future and see what you do as an adult.
Are you ready?
All right, jump in.
Let's go.
Bye.
(electric current buzzing) (slide whistle blowing) - Hi, miss Ables - Nubia, you're all grown up.
Oh my goodness.
I can't believe this.
I have to know.
And you wanted to know what is your routine like now as an adult?
- Oh, okay.
So I wake up - [Meghan] Yes.
- I eat breakfast.
- [Meghan] Okay.
- Brush my teeth, get dressed, get the kids ready for school.
- [Meghan] Okay.
- Pack work bag.
- [Meghan] Ooh.
- Help kids get on the bus and drive to work.
- So let's see, you wake up, you eat your breakfast, which you probably have to make breakfast.
- Oh yeah.
- Brush your teeth, get dressed, get the kids ready, pack your work bag, get on the bus, get the kids on the bus and drive to work.
- Yes.
- Wow.
So it's almost the same, but when you were little, you didn't pack a work bag and you didn't get your kids ready for school and now you drive to work.
- Yeah.
- Wow.
And I hate to send you off 'cause we're having so much fun but when your mom comes to get you, she doesn't want to see this version.
So let's get back in the time machine and go back to normal.
Are you ready?
- Yes.
- Let's go.
(electric current buzzing) (slide whistle blowing) - I'm back.
- You're back.
I'm so glad you're back.
Wow, you did such a good job today.
And students, all of you did such a good job.
And I want all of you to think of a routine that you do almost every day.
Write it down.
Ask your friends, ask your family and then look at them and compare.
How are they different?
When you were an adult and you were gone in the time machine, your routine was different and now you're back as yourself as a child and your routine's going to go back to your morning routine that you've always done.
So thank you all for joining me today.
We hope to see you again real soon, and awesome job today.
Bye.
