I think this might actually be a time machine.
What happens if I press this button right here?
(machine clicks) (time warp music) Whoa.
What happened?
What am I wearing?
I kind of like it.
What do you guys think?
I, I think I went back in time.
I think I'm in the 1920s.
Or, as we call it, the Roaring Twenties.
(swing music) The 1920s were a time in America where more people began to live in cities than on farms.
And we had significant economic growth nationwide.
Chain stores and advertising led to widespread culture shifts.
That impacted fashion, music, and even how people talked.
Jazz music was the cat's pajamas.
That means it was really cool.
And everyone, literally everyone, was dancing the Charleston or the Fox Trot.
Times were sure different in the twenties than they are today.
Although the radio gained mass popularity during this time period, the newspaper was still the main method of communication for most Americans.
People across America would read the newspaper each morning to find out the news and the weather.
And newspapers only cost two cents each.
A gallon of milk cost about 60 cents, whereas it costs four whopping dollars now Bread cost 12 cents compared to the price of three now.
Cars became more popular and more affordable for more Americans to own.
But if you are going to travel far, you were going to take a train.
In the 1920s, phones looked like this much different than the phones we carry in our pockets today.
You certainly couldn't take pictures with these phones.
To take a photo, you need a camera like this.
Well, I sure learned a lot about how things are different now than they were a hundred years ago.
And I think the 1920s were the bee's knees.
If you found a time machine in your basement, what time period would you travel to?
Hmm.
I wonder where I could go to next.
Well, I better hide this now before Frisbee finds it.
I cannot imagine what kind of trouble he will get himself into.
I'll see you guys next time, and I hope you'll come back for more learning with me on Arkansas Rise and Shine.
Get up off your feet.
Ah, ooo, ooo.
It's time to rise and shine.
