Mrs. House!
Mrs. House.
Oh.
Oh, Mrs. House.
Randi: Frisbee!
Frisbee: Thank goodness.
What's going on?
Oh, you look really stressed out and frustrated.
Oh, I've got a terrible case of writer's block.
I'm never going to be like my favorite canine authors.
Oh, John Steinbark.
Kurt Vonnemutt.
Virginia Woof.
Those are excellent authors.
And Frisbee, I know you and I know that you are also an awesome writer.
It doesn't feel that way.
I've got a deadline, Miss House.
A deadline?
Like, like how much of a deadline are we talking?
How much time do we have, Frisbee?
Oh, we got, like, 6 minutes, Miss House.
6 minutes.
OK. You can do a lot in 6 minutes, so I think we're going to be ok. OK, why don't you tell me, what is your, what is your article about?
What are you focusing on?
Well, there's a bone shortage.
Why didn't you say so sooner?
A bone shortage?
Frisbee: I know.
Randi: This is huge news.
I know.
What are we going to do?
OK, can you read me what you got?
Maybe I can help you figure out what's going on.
I think so.
Here we go.
Randi: Read me what you got.
OK. (clears throat) David's Pups and Pet Shop announced that there's a doggy bone shortage in Arkansas.
This message comes from pet shop owner David Walker, who spoke to Conway Pet Expo last week.
I love my bed.
My owner, Eric, fluffs it for me every night so it won't get lumpy.
I can sleep in it all day, but I like to play.
He says that since lots of owners are leaving home to work in their offices, dogs have gotten bored and started eating more bones.
He asks dogs to play with sticks or your owner's tennis shoes until the matter is resolved.
So it's pretty good, right?
Honestly, Frisbee, it's really good.
I know it's right up there with Grapes of Wrath.
You can't eat grapes, though.
Oh, did you know that?
Yeah, I knew that.
Randi: OK, making sure you knew that.
Your writing is really good.
Thank you.
And the good news is, I think I found your problem.
That's amazing.
It's a good thing I'm here because with my help, we're going to fix this writing, and it's going to be ready.
Oh, great.
So your problem was you had a couple of sentences in your writing that just didn't belong.
They didn't match what you were talking about.
Your topic is this horrible, awful bone shortage.
Frisbee: I know.
Frisbee: that all the dogs are facing across Arkansas, and you kind of got off track and started talking about your bed.
Yeah, my bed's great.
I bet your bed is great.
I bet it's cozy and fluffy.
And you even said that your owner Eric, fluffs it for you every night.
He does.
He's a great owner.
That's an awesome thing that he does, but it doesn't belong in this writing.
Oh, how so?
Well, you know, you talked about, like, you can sleep and play all day, but remember, your writing is about this bone shortage, so what happens if we take those sentences out and see what's left?
Oh, I don't think it's going to be as interesting.
It may not be, but let's give it a whirl, ok?
OK, Can I read it this time?
Frisbee: Well, go for it.
OK, I'm going to do it in my best (clear throat) journalist voice, ok?
Are you ready?
Frisbee: I'm ready.
I'm all ears.

Oh.
Yeah.
Where did you get that shoe?
I always got shoes on me.
Well, just in case.
Randi: That's good.
Especially..
Bone shortage if you haven't heard.
Right now, since there is a bone shortage.
I'm so glad that you brought your own snack of that shoe.
But what did you think about your article?
Do you think it's better?
Oh, it's much better now.
I think so, too.
So remember, Frisbee, it's important when you write to make sure that you include all the correct kinds of sentences that makes your message clear, and then the readers can understand what you're talking about.
Your topic was the bone shortage.
That's an informational piece.
Everything in that article should be facts.
Now, you may think it's a fact that you love your bed.
I do.
But it doesn't match your topic.
So, Frisbee, I think that your writing is going to be ready to turn in, and I think you're probably going to get a really good grade on it.
Well, it's not for grade.
I work for a living Miss House.
I thought you were in doggie school.
No, I graduated.
That was last year.
You didn't invite me to your graduation?
Frisbee: No.
Randi: I thought we were better friends in that Frisbee.
Well, there's a dog bone shortage.
There's things I got to write about.
I understand that.
Well, I think together we solved this problem and that you are going to be a better writer from now on.
That's great.
All right.
I'm going to say my name on it.
Here we go.
Randi: Let's do it.
I'm the sniffing out the letters.
Randi: Find it.
There's an F. (keys click) F. Can you help me?
I've got it from now on.
OK.
I've got it Frisbee.
Be sure to spell it right.
You're a great student so we know that you can do it.
Rise and shine.
Get up off your feet.
It's time to rise and shine.
