My name is Bryan Frazer.
I work here at Arkansas PBS, and I've got my garden hat on this morning because we're going to read a story about a garden, and a father and daughter's relationship with that garden.
The book is called "Gardens Are for Growing".
It's written by Chelsea Tornetto and illustrated by Hsulynn Pang.
"Shovels are for turning soil, and clumps are meant for breaking.
String is meant to keep rows straight, and breaks are meant for taking.
Sunshine is for soaking up, and seeds are meant for sowing.
Raindrops give small sprouts a drink, and gardens are for growing.
Blue jeans are for grass-stained knees, and flowers are for picking.
Fresh pea pods are meant to snap, and scarecrows are for tricking.
Worms are there for wiggle holes, but dirt is not for throwing.
Hoses are for cooling off.
And gardens are for growing.
Trellises help plants stand tall, and vines are made for winding.
Weeds are meant to be pulled up, and beauty is for finding.
Fences are for leaning on, and neighbors are for knowing.
Shade trees are for noontime naps.
And gardens are for growing.
Handkerchiefs wipe sweat from brows.
Success is for achieving.
Roots are meant for staying put.
Adventures are for leaving.
Porch swings are for quiet times, while fireflies are for glowing.
Sunsets are for fading light, and gardens are for growing.
Hands are made for harvesting, and sheds were meant for stowing.
Autumn is for falling leaves, and winter is for snowing.
Spring is meant for brand new starts, and hearts are meant for knowing.
Homes are made to call you back where gardens are for growing."
