Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat invigorating music) - Hi everyone my name is Mackenzie, and today we are going to read "P.U.
You Stink!"
by R. Friend.
Illustrated by Bill Ross.
Penelope, pink and plump, was as precious as can be.
Pudgy, Pugsy, Potsy where her siblings, count them three.
To tell the truth she's different, unique in many ways.
Eventually, her odor made her sisters run away.
Penelope, the perfect pig with a pee-yew pedigree.
Your odor is atrocious and you make us ill at ease.
You're pink and you stink!
You really, really, truly, truly, absolutely, positively, stink!
Penelope, all alone, rejected and depressed.
"My family doesn't love me," the piglet soon confessed.
"I'll run away from home."
That's exactly what took place.
Into a den of skunks, tears streaming down her face.
Amazed, in awe of what she saw.
Skunks learning how to stink.
Pigs don't need to practice.
What's the missing link?
Firecracker lined right up.
Then came the grand command.
A huge success.
His family cheered and even clapped their hands.
Shaking in her skin and stripes.
It was Sparky's turn to try.
The tiny little varmint, the runt, the smallest fry.
Will this stinker have it in her, as she took her premier bow?
Pressure mounting, tensions rising, will her strike be foul?
Two new friends ran and ran, tears streaming down their face.
Vision blurred, they wandered into Sheriff Stinkbug's place.
Sparky ran right in, her slim body fit just right.
Penelope's big bottom stuck, it was an ugly sight.
Eeny-Meeny, Miney and Moe.
Their plot was no surprise.
Sheriff Stinkbug warned his bugs of Hawg Heavens sure demise.
Penelope spoke right up.
"Can't have my family.
Please help me."
Help me, help me now!
It's an emergency."
"Bugs all ban together," the sheriff shouted out with glee.
"Raise our buggy battle cry, soon we'll all be free to flee."
Antenna raised bugs bounce and bounce, and soon begin to prance.
Pressure mounts, fumes build, as they perform their stink bug dance.
Boom, boom, boom.
The log explodes to their delight.
The sheriff mounts his horsefly and shouts with all his might, "Band together, raise a stink, defeat those foxy foes.
Have no fear to Hawg Heaven farms.
Watch those piggy toes."
Fox's chant and cunning chorus, "Eeny-Meeny, Miney, Moe, which delicious little porker will be the first to go?"
Is it too late?
Are they in time?
The piglets are surrounded.
Fox fur flies, as they proclaim, "Our intentions now are founded."
Penelope, astounded that her family was in peril ran to shield, protect and guard with one courageous carol, "We'll work together as a team to defeat this evil foe.
They won't be eating pork today, so on our way we'll go."
The stinkpots showed up just in time, don't be so alarmed.
Our little stinker smell we've tracked, my dear you'll not be harmed.
This family may be stinkers, but we all must stick together.
Sunshine or rain, good or bad, in every kind of weather.
Those stinkers that had stared in timid trepidation soon relaxed to watch Sheriff Stink Bug's jubilation.
Stand back, don't fear, teamwork will change your situation.
Deputies stink them up, let's start the celebration.
Teamwork works the best when surrounded with great friends, I'll be yours and you'll be mine forever to the end.
The moral of this story is simple plain and true, families that stink together stick together too.
