Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) - Good morning, my dear, sweet, beautiful, brilliant students of Arkansas.
Today, we're going to investigate and explore ways people can take care of the earth.
Do you see this symbol right here?
Do you know what it means?
That's right, recycle?
Some of you may have a recycling bin at your home.
Can anyone tell me what types of things can go into the recycling bin?
That's right, paper products like junk mail or paper plates, even cardboard boxes.
Ooh, my son hates it when we make him break down delivery boxes to fit into the recycling bin.
He does it with an attitude like, "Ugh."
Plastic bottles and soda cans can also go in the recycling bin.
The reason we recycle is to help keep the earth clean.
Paper, plastic, jars, and cans aren't the only things that we can recycle.
We can also recycle clothes that no longer fit.
And, boy, do I have a lot of those thanks in part to COVID quarantining.
Toys and books that we don't use or read anymore are also things that we can recycle.
Instead of throwing them away or putting them in the recycle bin, we can donate them directly to people or organizations that will put them to good use.
So let's look at these items and decide if we should recycle, donate, or throw away.
Here's a plastic bottle and a can.
What should we do with them?
Sometimes these have the recycling symbol on them, and that means that you're able to recycle them.
But first, make sure they are clean and dry.
What about this gently used toy?
Hmm.
I really used to love this toy and I know that if it gets into the right hands, someone could love it too.
So this one should be donated.
Now, what about this torn t-shirt?
I know you can't put clothing in these curbside recycling bins, but if I cut it up, then I can recycle it by repurposing it and using it as a cleaning rag.
So you see, most of what we normally automatically throw away can actually be recycled.
There are so many ways that we can help keep the earth clean.
Make sure to do your part.
See you later.
