Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat lively music) - Good morning, Arkansas students and families!
It's Meghan Ables here with you to talk about something that's gonna be a lot of fun today.
And we're going to have a community parade.
And when I was growing up, I loved going to the parade with my family.
And now that I have two daughters, we get to go together to watch the parades.
So today, we're gonna have our own parade here on screen with you.
And I'm so excited to talk about our local community helpers in our community parade.
So grab a snack, get a drink, and get ready to cheer because here comes our first vehicle.
Look!
It's a police car!
(siren wailing) Think about a police officer you know.
How did they help and protect you and your community?
I know my friends who serve on our police force, they help keep me safe.
They patrol the streets; checking to make sure people are driving safely; if they see someone who needs help, they stop and they check on them.
And one time a police officer even helped me with my flat tire.
Police officers check on our community buildings.
If there's a crime they're gonna investigate.
And make sure that everyone else is safe in the neighborhood.
I've seen our police officers volunteering in the community, playing basketball or football with the kids.
And do you have a school resource officer at your school?
Because we have the best SRO.
Shout out to Officer Owens!
Park Avenue loves you!
Did you hear that?
(siren blaring) What is it?
It sounds like a siren.
Who could that be?
Look!
It's a firetruck!
Hey guys!
If you are riding with someone and you hear that sound, you remind them to move over and make a way for that firetruck.
Firemen go through a lot of training.
They have to be really strong to help get us out of a burning building or a car.
A fireman, I bet they've come to your school.
In fact, I bet they told you to stop, drop, and roll.
And I also bet they told you to get down low if there's ever a building that's on fire and you're in it.
Firemen, they teach us about fire safety and they have to keep all of their equipment ready to go in a moment's notice.
Firemen have to be in good shape.
From what I hear, that equipment is really heavy and those fire hoses are really long and really heavy.
Hmm, who's next in our parade?
(siren blaring) Oh, look!
Look!
It's an ambulance!
And I bet that ambulance is full of medical equipment and I bet there's an EMT on board to help with injuries.
That's right, wave to the ambulance!
Do you know what an EMT stands for?
E: emergency, M: medical, T: Technician.
And just like a firetruck, if you see or hear an ambulance, remind that person to move over so they can get to the hospital.
EMTs make bandage wounds, work to stop the bleeding, or hookup oxygen or anything like that to save a life.
So today, we have learned about three of our outstanding community helpers and not only do we learn about them, but we got to enjoy a parade.
Thank you so much for joining us today.
See you next time!
