♪ Stacey and Billy: Ho!
Stacey: Hello my dear, sweet, beautiful, brilliant Rise and Shiners.
I am Stacey McAdoo, your forever 2019 Arkansas Teacher of the Year and today I have with me my nephew Billy.
Billy.
And you just heard from Mr. Mac.
Billy, what was Mr. Mac, what genre was he demonstrating?
He was rapping.
He was rapping.
Mr. Mac: That's right.
Do you know how to rap?
I could try.
OK, I can rap just a little bit.
I want to start by telling you a little bit about rap music.
Did you know that rap music was started 50 years ago?
Way, way, a long, long time ago, way before I was born.
But it was started by little boys and girls, Preteens and teens, just like you, Billy.
Did you know that?
Billy: No.
So these these little people, little humans like you, started rap music.
But as complicated as it sounds, it's really not that difficult.
Rap music is basically just couplets.
You know what couplets are?
Billy: Uh, no.
So couplets are a form of poetry, and they are two lines where the last word rhymes.
That's all.
Let's practice making a rap couplet.
All right, can, can you help me make a beat?
I can help you.
Stacey: OK?
And clap.
OK, here I go.
Y'all ready?
My name is Stacey.
Learning is cool.
I rock all grades and Rise and Shine is my school.
(clapping) Billy?
My name is Billy.
Learning is cool.
I rock the 5th grade in the Rise and Shine school.
Oh, oh, Mr. Mac.
Rise and Shine and... (hollow clapping) (Stacey laughs) (clapping) Alright, good job.
You guys did an amazing job.
Thank you all for joining us.
And maybe next time we're together, we can make a complete rap song.
What do you think about that?
Mr. Mac: Definitely.
All right, until next time.
See you later.
Let's show 'em.
Science and reading skills, math and art, color wheels.
Let's go to class.
It's a blast!
You're a great student so we know that you can do it.
Rise and shine.
Get up off your feet.
Ah, ooo, ooo.
It's time to rise and shine.
