Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) - Hello, Arkansas students!
Here on Rise and Shine I get to work with so many fun grownups: teachers, actors, filmmakers.
And every once in a while, a boy or girl no different than you joins us for fun right here on the set.
Check out the spotlight on my friend, Denver Allen, who loves acting at the local theater, check it out.
(upbeat guitar music) - [Denver] Being a kid is the best.
Playing, being with my family, going to school.
I love it all.
- From a very young age Denver loved music and just putting a smile on everybody's face.
So any chance he got, he either had a guitar or a microphone in his hand or in front of him and would sing, would dance, would perform.
Anything just to get himself in front of people to make them smile.
- I'm Denver Allen.
And this is my student spotlight.
♪On my way back home ♪ I am eight years old and I live in Maumelle, Arkansas.
I go to school at Maumelle Charter.
My favorite subject is science.
And one day I really hope to be a scientist, 'cause it's really cool.
And you get to do really cool experiments, get to learn about the past, maybe even the future.
I would not want to be a mad scientist 'cause they're like (evil laughs).
I would be a good scientist.
So I can like make medicines and cures to help people if they're sick.
Maumelle Charter's a really cool school, and I really like it.
- When Denver was little, probably like two is when he started really getting interested in plays in theater.
And we took him to his very first play and he literally sat through the entire show, beginning to end, intermission, and didn't move.
As a two-year-old that's a pretty big sign that he found his niche.
So we kind of took that and ran with it.
And he's been in multiple plays, multiple commercials.
It's literally his thing.
- I've been acting since I was about three years old.
I've been in seven different plays and a lot of commercials.
And I really hope to be in a movie one day.
My favorite parts when I'm in a commercial or a play is when I get to be funny.
Right now I'm in "Beauty and the Beast" and I'm playing Chip and it's a pretty funny part.
Chip has so many songs, so many dances, so many lines.
It's a really fun play and it's a really fun part to be Chip.
One time I was in a commercial and I got to ride on the jet ski and we got to do so many donuts.
We got to ride under the bridge.
(engine revving, man laughing, Denver screams) - [Denver] Oh my God.
One time we had this big green screen and we had to pretend that we were driving, but we actually weren't driving it at all.
So with my mind, I was imagining we were in traffic and we were so stuck that we couldn't move at all.
And we were just, ugh.
Acting is really cool.
I love it.
(applause) I have been playing basketball for two years now.
I love basketball.
It's definitely my favorite sport.
One time at basketball camp, I got free throw champion.
My favorite part about basketball would probably be doing it one on one.
'Cause it makes it more challenging and more fun.
When I grow up, I really want to be able to play in the high school team, NCAA or probably NBA.
(techno music) (upbeat country music) - [Denver] I have a little brother named Charlie and a little sister named EJ.
- Denver and his siblings, it's so funny because they all have different personalities, but Denver's like the parent to them.
He takes them under his wing and he tries to make sure you know that they're doing the right thing that they feel loved when they're sad instead of mom or dad being the first one to console 'em it's always big brother.
It's the sweetest thing.
He has such a kind heart.
He's just the best.
- My favorite thing about being a big brother is really helping them with stuff.
My little sister, Emily, she is the best thing, she gives the best hugs and my little brother Charlie, well, sometimes he can be a little crazy.
But I still love him.
It's an important job to be a big brother.
And they're a special part of my childhood.
All these things for me are what makes being a kid so much fun.
I like being a kid.
I don't think I'm going to rush to grow up.
