You are never going to guess what today is.
It's Frisbee's birthday!
And as you can see, I'm a bit of a mess today because I have big plans to surprise Frisbee with a party.
Miss Salaam has been helping me with the plan.
And right now, she and Frisbee are at the park on a walk.
And I hope they take a long walk because I have so much left to get done!
Miss Salaam told me they won't be back home until 1:00 p.m.
Here's everything on my to-do list.
I still need to bake Frisbee's birthday cake.
That will take about 35 minutes.
I need to make the punch.
That will take me about 15 minutes.
I need to decorate the kitchen in the teacher's house.
And that will take at least one hour.
Oh, and I still need to get Frisbee his birthday present.
Let's see.
So if I drive to the store, shop, and drive back, that will take about one hour and 20 minutes.
Okay, brilliant mathematicians, let's problem-solve and see if I can get this done.
(sound whistles) Let's see.
It's 9:45 a.m. right now.
If we have a 9:45 a.m. start time, it'll take 35 minutes for the cake, 15 minutes for the punch, one hour to decorate, and one hour, 20 minutes to buy the present.
Let's focus on the minutes first.
We have 45 plus 35 plus 15 plus 20.
That's 115 minutes.
Now, 115 minus 60 minutes for that hour leaves us one hour and 55 minutes.
Now, let's look at the hours.
We started at nine o'clock.
So nine hours plus one plus one, that's 11, plus one more, that makes 12, okay?
According to our calculations, we will finish at 12 hours and 55 minutes.
Will I be able to finish everything by one o'clock?
Yes, with five minutes to spare!
I better hurry.
(energetic gaming music) Let's make punch!
(energetic gaming music) Now, it's time to decorate.
(energetic gaming music) Whoo, I still need to get a present!
Where are my keys?
Oh, where are my keys?
(gasping) There they are.
(sound scratching) (blows air) Here we go.
(fast air whooshing) Oh, Frisbee is going to love this.
One final touch.
Oh, the cake.
(smelling cake) (party music) Mathematicians, it's 12:55 p.m.
I'm so glad we finished on time!
Oh, I hear the best dog in the world outside.
I'll see you next time.
(shushing) (fun upbeat music)
