Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) - Good morning, mathematicians.
I hope you're having a great day so far.
We are about to have a fantastic time on "Rise and Shine" with a game called Guess That Form.
I have two very special guests with me today: my daughter Harper and her good friend Magnolia.
Girls, are you so excited to be here?
- Yes.
- We are going to have a blast.
Okay, before we start, let's quickly review the three types of forms that we can use to express numbers.
I'm going to use the number 2,815 as an example.
The first form is standard form, and it looks like this, 2,815.
Standard form is how we typically write numbers.
The second form is expanded form and looks like this, 2000 + 800 + 10 + 5.
Expanded form lets us see the place value of each number.
The final form is word form and looks like this, two thousand eight hundred fifteen.
Word form spells the number out.
Okay, Harper and Magnolia, here are the rules of the game.
You will choose a category and a point.
The bigger numbers are worth more points.
Are you ready?
- Yes.
- All right, let's go.
Magnolia, let's start with you.
- I want to go big.
Word form for four points, please.
- Word form for four points.
I love that you want to go big.
Okay, Mags, here's your number.
Grab your marker.
9,615.
Oh, she is writing quickly.
Awesome.
That is correct for four points.
Great job, Magnolia.
Harper, you're up.
What would you like?
- Hmm, standard form for three points, please.
- Oh, standard form for three points.
Are you ready?
Grab your marker.
Your number is 427.
(soft upbeat music) And show your board.
Great job for three points.
You can erase your board.
Okay, Magnolia, it's your turn.
What would you like?
- I would like standard form for two points, please.
- Standard form for two points.
Okay, let's see what she's got.
Mags, your number is 206.

And show your board.
Yes, that is correct for two points.
Okay, Harper, you're up.
What would you like?
- Hmm, expanded form for three points, please.
