Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat pop music) - Good morning, amazing students.
I'm so excited to be with you this morning.
We are going to have so much fun today learning to be a good citizen no matter where we are.
Have you heard the word "citizen" before?
Let's make sure we understand what that means.
Being a citizen is like being a member of a place.
Have you ever been a member at the Boys & Girls Club or maybe a club at school like the Book Club or the Robotics Team?
Well, a citizen is someone who is a member of a place because they were born there or maybe their parents were born there or they decided to move there from somewhere else and become a citizen.
Being a citizen comes with some privileges like being able to vote on big decisions.
Being a good citizen means also accepting some responsibilities and showing good behavior.
And today, we are going to talk about how we can be good citizens in different ways and at different places.
I think I need my magic white board for this activity and maybe a super kiddo too.
Ah, Harper!
Yes, great.
Now I have Harper here with me today to help me think about what it means to be a good citizen.
Harper, let's think about different places that we go.
I'm thinking first about school.
What are some ways that we can be a good, responsible citizen when we're at school?
- We can obey our teachers.
- Obey teachers.
- Be kind to our friends on the playground.
- Be kind to our friends on the playground.
- And be nice to them.
- Okay, let's think about another place.
How can you be a good citizen when you are at home?
- You can obey your parents.
You can be nice to your siblings.
- Oh, be nice.
- You can take care of your pet.
- Oh, take care of our pets.
What about your bedroom?
What's something you can do in your bedroom to be a good citizen at home?
- Keep our room clean.
- Yes, be clean.
Okay, I'm thinking about when we're out in the community.
What about when we go to the park or maybe a grocery store or even a restaurant?
What are some things that we could do?
- We can remember to restore our environment.
- Oh, she said, "Remember to restore the environment."
We talk about that a lot in our family.
- We can pick up trash.
- Mm-hm.
Take turns.
- And take turns.
- Yeah.
Think about when we are at the park.
What's something that you could do?
- Take turns on the slide?
- Take turns on the slide?
Okay.
Those are some great ideas.
We talk a lot about restoring the environment in our family because it's so important.
It means that anytime you go somewhere, when you leave, that place is as clean as it was before you got there or you left it even better.
We talk about restoring the environment when we finish eating a meal, right?
We clean up the table.
When we've been doing arts and crafts at home, we restore the environment, even when we go hiking or go camping.
What are some ways when we go hiking or camping that we restore the environment?
- If you see trash anywhere, you can make sure to pick it up 'cause it can be bad for the animals too.
- Oh, yeah, she said leaving trash on the ground can be bad for the animals.
It's very important that we take care of our earth and leave places clean.
And Harper, I'm not sure that this place is even clean right now.
What do you see over there?
- Trash, and I think that we should restore our environment 'cause it's messy.
- We should restore the environment right now?
Okay, you hold the trash can for me.
And these are water bottles.
Are they recyclable?
- Yes.
- Yes, they are.
One, two.
There, we just did our part to help.
Okay, everyone, that's all for today.
I hope you have an amazing day.
Think about being a good, responsible citizen, and make sure you restore the environment everywhere you go.
We'll see you soon on "Rise and Shine."
Bye.
