Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship(upbeat music) Good morning, Amazing students of Arkansas.
Today we are going to be learning about simple objects and how they help us solve problems.
What is it called when we solve a problem?
Hmm.
That's right.
Students.
A solution.
So I have to tell you that I got these new shoes and was left with this shoe box.
How can we use this to help us solve simple problems?
Check out these new shoes.
So how are we going to use this?
How could we solve this problem of carrying all of this stuff at the same time?
That's right.
We can put most or all of the items on the table in the box.
So let's do that.
First, I've got my car here.
Put it right there.
I've got a couple of books OK. One is going to go here and here.
I also have a notebook that we can fit right here.
I've got a notepad and some post-it notes.
That can go here and here.
And finally, a magnifying glass.
Yeah, that'll go right in there.
Look, guys, we did it.
We solved this big problem with a simple solution.
What are some other ways we can use this box?
Hmm.
What if there was a wobbly table?
If only there was something we could do to keep it from moving.
What do you think?
That's right.
We can wedge a piece of the box under the table to stop the wobble.
Great job.
We have solved another problem.
Now that we've solved these problems, I want to talk about something else we can do with the box.
What do you think we could do with this box if we don't need it anymore?
Hmm.
That's right.
We can break it down and save it for another time or recycle it.
Once again, you have solved another problem with a simple solution.
Awesome job.
Now I want to talk about another object and things we could do with it to solve other problems.
What about this glass jar and these water bottles on the table here?
What are some ways we can use these to solve problems?
Hmm.
Yes, we can use the water bottle to hold water for us to drink.
We could also use this jar to hold money like a piggy bank.
(coins rattle) Cool stuff.
Finally, we can take these water bottles and use it to grow our own plants.
All we had to do was cut the water bottle in half, put some soil and plant the plant or seeds.
The possibilities are endless.
These are all great solutions to everyday problems using simple objects.
What are some other objects that you know of that can solve problems?
Ask an adult and go explore your ideas.
Thanks for tuning in, students, and have a fantastic rest of your day.
